I Was Told 'No One Would Miss You,' So I Became the Empress of Another Country - Episode 9
A few days later, I was suddenly summoned by Logan.
When I arrived at the emperor’s waiting room, he was already there, accompanied by several attendants, waiting for me with a solemn atmosphere.
His short, jet-black hair and golden-tinged eyes.
And his dignified posture.
It was the same calm intensity I had felt when we first met.
“Welcome. I apologize for taking up your time,” Logan said in a calm voice as he gestured for me to sit.
I sat down on the chair, feeling a bit nervous.
“No, not at all. It is an honor for His Majesty to personally call for me,” I replied.
“Let’s skip the formalities. I’ve called you here today for a personal request,” Logan said as he lightly waved his hand, signaling for his attendants to step back. The room became quiet.
When the emperor himself says it’s a “personal request,” I couldn’t help but feel a bit tense.
“To get to the point, I would like to ask for your assistance with the treaty between the Kingdom of Lowell and the empire,” Logan said.
I could feel my heart race at his words.
Just as I had heard in rumors, Logan was serious about making me his negotiation assistant.
“However, I’m not a diplomacy expert. And right now, I’m dealing with issues concerning Crown Prince Leon. I’m not sure if I can be of any help to Your Majesty…” I said, honestly expressing my feelings.
Logan smiled gently at my response.
“It doesn’t matter if you’re not an expert. In fact, as a duke’s daughter, you’re familiar with the workings of the royal court and understand Prince Leon’s way of thinking. To me, that’s a big advantage,” Logan explained.
“I see… It’s true that I have some understanding of the inner workings of the royal court,” I replied.
“Furthermore, you are in the position of a victim in this matter. From what I’ve observed, the people in the capital seem to view you sympathetically,” Logan added.
Indeed, the broken engagement itself had been a major scandal, but the public tends to sympathize with me, the one who was unilaterally dumped. Since Prince Leon’s arrogant behavior was widely known, it was easier for people to feel sorry for me rather than blame me.
“If you were to act as my assistant in this negotiation, the nobles and people of the Kingdom of Lowell would likely recognize that something serious is happening. At the very least, it would be a way to curb Prince Leon’s tyranny.”
“…Honestly, I didn’t think you were considering all of this,” I said, surprised once again by Logan’s strategic insight.
Although I was still confused, I thought that my involvement could indeed help keep Leon in check.
“So, what do you say? Will you accept?” Logan asked quietly.
I hesitated for a moment, and then my thoughts turned to my father and Lydia’s encouraging words.
My father had asked for my help, and Lydia had told me, “It’s better to try what you can than regret doing nothing.”
“…I understand. If I can be of help, I’ll gladly accept,” I answered.
Logan smiled in satisfaction.
“Thank you. I hope this will make it more likely for the negotiations to proceed smoothly,” he said.
I nodded, exhaling lightly.
It might be a heavy responsibility, but I wanted to believe that this was the best course of action for me right now.
Taking this step could help stop Leon and Flora’s reckless actions and avoid a crisis for the kingdom.
Suddenly, Logan’s gaze caught mine.
His golden-tinged eyes were fixed on me.
“I have a feeling that your future will shine in a place that is not here.
Whether that’s in the Kingdom of Lowell or the Igleia Empire, I can’t say for sure…” he said.
His words were meaningful, and a slight unease stirred in my chest.
It felt as if he was suggesting I should look to a wider world.
“I… I don’t think I can go back to the way things were. That might be why I’m looking for a new path,” I said, feeling something stir within me.
When I was heartbroken over my breakup with Leon, I was only left in a daze.
But now, I felt like I could look forward just a little and start walking again.
Logan’s smile from that moment left a strange warmth in my heart.
