I Was Told to Drink Poison, So I Drank It - 35 - How Your Life Ends
(This is bad… I’m seriously running out of holy power…)
I feel dizzy.
My headache is terrible, like someone is pounding my head.
At this point, I can’t even tell if I’m the one swaying or if it just feels that way.
Even so, I didn’t stop the hand pouring out holy power.
Noah and Luke were both badly wounded.
Noah was especially in a critical state.
He had been shot in the shoulder, and the front of his body was burned and blistered badly.
There were bruises and fractures all over his body, and he had lost a lot of bl00d.
He was seriously injured and close to death.
Each time I used my holy power, particles of light burst out.
This always happens when I use too much holy power at once.
“…Lady Chalize. It’s not much, but I will help too.”
Luke sat up and held his hand over Noah’s body.
He probably had very little holy power left after using it on Noah.
Still, even a little help was better than none.
I was thankful for his support.
I could barely feel my fingers anymore.
But I couldn’t collapse here.
With just that thought alone, I kept pouring in holy power.
I don’t know how long I kept going like that.
“Lady Chalize!!”
I heard Louis’s voice and slowly turned toward him.
He knelt beside me and looked at me carefully.
His eyes were full of worry for me.
“…I’m okay. What about Aidan?”
I managed to ask in a raspy voice.
Louis opened his mouth to say something—but then closed it tightly, swallowing his words.
Then he lowered his lashes and shook his head.
“I see…”
It was just as I expected.
Even Noah, who had been protected by Luke’s holy power, was in this terrible condition.
Aidan Lips, who had no holy power, must have died instantly.
My vision tilted heavily, and I put my hand on the floor to steady myself.
Louis quickly supported my back, and I was grateful for that.
“I will carry Prince Noah. So, Lady Chalize…”
Just as Louis said that—
“Ugh…”
Noah let out a faint groan, and both Luke and I leaned in to look at his face.
“Noah!!”
“Prince Noah!!”
We both called out, and Noah groaned again.
His silver eyelashes trembled and slowly lifted.
He was breathing shallowly.
As his lashes rose, eyes the color of the sky appeared.
After blinking a few times, he tried to speak—but then burst into a rough cough.
“Cough, hack, cough!”
“Noah, thank goodness—”
Just as I was about to speak to Noah, an explosion sounded in the hallway behind us. Right after, a sharp jolt shook the area.
Startled, I looked back, and Louis said while glaring down the hallway:
“…We need to leave this place immediately. They’re trying to blast away the rubble. If they keep doing that, the ceiling will collapse. If we stay here, we’ll be crushed.”
The moment Louis finished speaking, another explosion rang out behind us.
It seemed they were trying to clear the blocked path with explosives.
(If they do that, of course the ceiling will collapse…!!)
But they must have judged that reaching the office was more important—probably because they thought Aidan Lips was in danger.
Another explosion came from behind.
They were probably setting off bombs or something like that. Each time, the ceiling and walls shook, and pieces of wood fell down.
Just like Louis said, if this continues, the pillars will snap, the ceiling will fall, and the whole place will collapse.
“The only exit is the hallway. We could try going through the window, but we’re on the second floor. Should we jump?”
When I asked, the one who answered wasn’t Louis—it was Luke.
“I know a hidden passage. Let’s go that way.”
Luke slowly stood up.
He was clearly badly injured. His legs were shaky, and he was breathing heavily.
He was clearly pushing himself too hard.
But I had almost no holy power left either. If I used any more, I probably wouldn’t be able to move.
Right now, getting out of here is the top priority.
Louis carried Noah on his back, who was lying face-up on the ground.
Noah was conscious, but he seemed very out of it. He spoke weakly and in fragments.
“You… Lou… is…?”
“Please don’t talk. It’ll make you worse.”
Louis said that, and Luke led the way.
He stopped in front of a bookshelf in the back of the room.
He pulled out a book carelessly, then reached behind it and seemed to move something.
A moment later, Luke stepped away from the bookshelf.
The bookshelf slid to the side—revealing a hidden door behind it.
(…That’s just like Aidan Lips, always planning ahead.)
He had prepared a secret passage to escape from here in case something happened.
Though in the end, he died before he could even use it.
“…………”
I don’t feel sorry for him.
He ruined countless lives, looked down on everyone else, and stepped on them.
He didn’t even think it was wrong—he lived only for himself.
And as a result—he was betrayed by Luke, who was supposed to be one of his subordinates.
If, right after Noah threw the grenade,
Luke had shielded Aidan Lips with holy power, even if he had been injured, he wouldn’t have died.
He could’ve survived—just like Noah did.
But Luke chose Noah.
He chose to protect and save Noah.
That’s all there is to it.
They say that when you die, you find the answer to your life…
(…Goodbye, Aidan Lips.)
I wonder if you ever found the answer to your life.
