Episode 100

“Yeah, of course.”

“Everything’s ready on our end too.”

Looks like things are good to go. Suzaku and Serin are being guarded by Inaesia and Zangell. You never know when or where they might be attacked, so when Reem and I have free time, we’ll be joining in too.

“For now, we’ll have you fight in the Forest of Rebellion. We might get attacked by strange monsters again, so it’s important that you get stronger quickly. But don’t rush it, okay?”

Although this was mainly directed at Suzaku, I also meant it for Zangell. Ever since we realized that the ones who attacked the city of Endria might have been demons, he’s been overly motivated. Well, Zangell is still more composed than Suzaku, so I think he’ll be fine.

This time, I’m joining the battle in the Forest of Rebellion as part of my own training. Lately, I’ve been stuck doing paperwork and haven’t been able to move around much. The last real combat I participated in was when I was acting as Ryō.

First, I’ll join Suzaku and Serin in battle to gauge their skills. Both seem capable enough. Suzaku is a power attacker who excels at wielding a longsword. What makes him even more formidable is his unique ability to use all elemental attributes, which allows him to exploit his opponent’s weaknesses. Serin, on the other hand, is skilled at changing the elemental attributes of her magic bullets and supporting with healing spells. 

In the game, the main strategy was to power up Suzaku and have him fight. Even now, on the first floor, we’re using a similar approach. That said, both Suzaku and Serin seem to be strong enough to handle battles on the second floor. They probably gained quite a bit of experience from the fight with the Grand Wraith earlier. 

With this level of strength, I might have them push through the third layer. If Zangell and Inaesia back them up, they should manage. Right now, the soldiers are also undergoing training on the first and second layers.

“Alright, now that I have a good sense of your abilities, let’s move to the third layer.”

“The third layer… the enemies there are even stronger than here?”

“Yeah. But with the four of you, it shouldn’t be a problem.”

“Huh? You’re not going to fight with us, Reis?”

“I’m heading to the fifth layer.”

“The fifth layer… that’s where the monsters are even stronger, right?”

“Exactly. But I need you guys to be able to handle enemies of that level too.”

“Right… As Serin’s big brother, I’ve got to step it up.”

“…You’re the younger brother, though.”

As if suddenly reminded of his goal to protect Serin, Suzaku declared this with determination. While Serin gave him a sharp look and muttered.

“Honestly, I can’t even tell which one of you is the younger sibling or the older one,” 

Inaesia remarked with a playful tone, to which Serin nodded.

“That’s right. A lot happened when we were young.”

“That sounds rough.”

“…You’ve been through a lot too, haven’t you, Inaesia? Didn’t your hometown get attacked by monsters?”

“Yes… but Lord Reis saved me from that.”

“Same with us… he saved us too.” 

…. Even if you say that. I haven’t really solved the root problems in either case. If I had more power and knowledge, maybe I could have saved Inaesia’s homeland and Serin’s family. But I’ve never been able to arrive in time to make a real difference, so I always feel a bit guilty when they praise me.

“Well then, I’m off. Zangell, try not to overdo it.”

“I understand. Take care.”

Now that it’s settled that we’ll be focusing on leveling up Suzaku and Serin, the next step is figuring out how to train their unique abilities. Suzaku possesses the power of the Demon King… When he temporarily awakens his demonic powers, all his stats skyrocket. However, in that state, his appearance also changes to resemble a demon. So we can’t train him in front of others.

Serin possesses the power of the Hero. But that in itself makes her stand out… It’s said that the Hero’s bloodline has long died out. So if her hero powers were discovered, it would cause huge problems. She could be taken to the Northern Continent and forced into war. 

The current peace between humans and demons exists because neither side has a key figure with legendary powers. For humans, it’s the Hero, and for demons, it’s the Demon King. If either side were to gain one of these symbols of power, they might launch an invasion. 

If I’m going to help Suzaku and Serin train their unique abilities, I’ll have to personally oversee it. Since I’m the only one who knows the full situation. Perhaps I should share some of my knowledge with a few others… 

With these thoughts in mind, I head to the fifth floor, hunting the dinosaur-like monsters. …At this point, there’s no creature on this continent that poses a threat to me.
