I Woke Up and Became an Alpha (GL) - Chapter 5
When Song Yuran opened her eyes again, she saw the ceiling and an IV pole.
She blinked, slowly sat up in bed, and took in her surroundings.
It was a hospital.
Before she could fully grasp her situation, the ward door opened, and a doctor in a white coat, holding a medical record, walked in.
“You’re awake,” the doctor said as he approached. “How do you feel?”
Song Yuran instinctively touched her face, feeling a lack of strength. She truthfully replied, “I don’t have much strength, and my body feels tired.”
She quickly asked, “Doctor, what happened to me?”
The doctor stopped by the bed, flipped through the medical record, and said, “You’ve differentiated, into an Alpha.”
“?????????????????”
Song Yuran gasped.
Why did this damn differentiation have to happen now, of all times? Would the doctor treat her as a monster to be studied?!
Soon, the doctor’s next sentence brought her a momentary sense of relief: “Someone called 911 for you and brought you here. We couldn’t find any valid identification on you. This is your medical record; please fill in your information.”
Thank goodness! Song Yuran’s strained heart relaxed a bit. Good thing she forgot to bring her ID today.
“What’s wrong?” The doctor asked, seeing her look like she had been given a new lease on life.
“No, nothing.” Song Yuran took the medical record and wrote down her name. She paused at the age column and wrote “20.”
The doctor took the record and glanced at it. “Oh, twenty years old, that’s a very normal age for differentiation.” He paused, then added, “Since you’re awake, please go upstairs for a detailed full-body examination.”
Her recently relaxed heart tensed up again. Song Yuran quickly got out of bed and said, “Uh, um, Doctor, something very important just came to mind. I won’t do the check-up today. I’ll come back next time.”
Wouldn’t a full-body examination expose her true age? Song Yuran wasn’t foolish. Since she knew she had differentiated, there was no need to stay in the hospital. Leaving quickly was the priority.
“How can that be!” the doctor said with a serious expression. “If there are any abnormalities during differentiation, a detailed examination can identify problems and allow for timely treatment.”
The doctor tried to stop her from leaving. Song Yuran’s mind raced, and she quickly said, “Doctor, there’s a gas leak at my house. If you stop me and something happens, you’ll be responsible!”
“…” The doctor thought for a second, then withdrew his hand that was reaching for her. “Pay on the first floor.”
Song Yuran scrambled out of the ward without a second’s delay. After paying at the first-floor counter, she quickly hailed a taxi home.
Sitting in the taxi, the belated differentiation brought Song Yuran a little peace about her future in the ABO world, but soon a problem made her face clouded with worry.
Differentiating into an Alpha… didn’t that mean she now had an extra thing…?
A look of horror instantly appeared on Song Yuran’s face as she thought about this. She lowered her head, her slowly extending fingers trembling.
She still didn’t have the courage to face a “brand new” self.
By the time she got home, the sky outside was already darkening. Song Yuran drew all the curtains in the house, looking exactly like someone about to do something illicit.
There wasn’t a speck of light in the room, but it was still enough to see the surrounding furnishings. Song Yuran walked to the sofa and sat down.
Her legs were slightly parted. She stared intently at her skirt hem, her heart a mix of emotions at the thought of what lay beneath it.
She suddenly remembered back in school, when a few innocent roommates gathered in the dorm for the first time to watch “the mysteries of the human body” through a computer screen. At first, Song Yuran was a bit curious, until the actor appeared naked on screen…
She almost threw up her overnight meal.
Anyone who had lived for 26 years and was suddenly told they had become an Alpha, with an extra ugly thing on their body, would not be calm.
She sat motionless on the sofa for a long time. Song Yuran once again mustered her courage, lowered her head, and slowly extended her hand—
Her fingertips trembled violently in the air. She took a deep breath, turned her head, and reached down.
“Hm???”
Song Yuran’s eyes instantly widened. She confirmed it with her hand again; it was flat.
“There’s nothing?!?!” she exclaimed.
Differentiated into an Alpha, but without a second set of organs?!
This made Song Yuran, who detested the “ugly thing,” instinctively breathe a sigh of relief. Only after relaxing did she have the energy to notice other things.
Something seemed wrong, though????????
Song Yuran touched the two ounces of flesh on her chest. At this moment, it was distinctly half an ounce smaller! She had never imagined that her once bothersome C-cup would shrink to a B-cup without warning.
Song Yuran, having lost half an ounce of “meat,” was on the verge of tears: “I’m incomplete…”
Rain began to fall in her heart; in this city, there was now one more sad person.
The sudden differentiation made Song Yuran even more certain that she was the treacherous cannon fodder female Alpha from the original novel, strengthening her resolve to resign!
She quickly drafted her resignation letter, preparing to submit it to the company.
As soon as she stepped into the company lobby, she ran into Zhao Anye waiting for the elevator.
“Oh, Yuran.” Zhao Anye greeted her proactively, her gaze openly falling on Song Yuran’s chest. She teased, “Why aren’t you ‘adorning yourself for your admirer’ today?”
Song Yuran, devastated by the loss of her C-cup, was annoyed by Zhao Anye’s teasing. “Adorn my ass. I’m the most beautiful woman in the world.”
“Hey, just kidding. Don’t use your pheromones to suppress me.”
“When did I…” Song Yuran started to ask when she had emitted pheromones, but stopped herself mid-sentence.
Pheromones? Speaking of which, Alphas and Omegas could smell pheromones, and they would also unconsciously release them to suppress others when their emotions fluctuated.
Now that Zhao Anye mentioned it, Song Yuran suddenly realized that she couldn’t smell pheromones!
She took two deep breaths. All she could smell was the scent of pan-fried buns diffusing in the air, mixed with other breakfast smells.
Neither of these smelled like pheromones should.
“Um, Anye,” Song Yuran said slowly, pretending to be nonchalant, “Do my pheromones smell good?”
Zhao Anye asked suspiciously, “Can’t you smell them?”
Under normal circumstances, one could smell both their own pheromones and those of others.
Song Yuran replied without batting an eye, “Of course I can smell them. I’m just used to them, so I’m immune. I was just asking you.”
As long as she remained calm enough, no one would suspect.
“Okay.” Zhao Anye pondered for a moment, then replied, “Not bad.”
“…” That answer was as good as no answer. Song Yuran wanted to know what her pheromones smelled like, afraid it might be some bizarre scent, which would add insult to injury for the already heartbroken Song Yuran, who had lost half an ounce of “meat.”
Now that Zhao Anye said that, even though she wanted to ask for clarification, she knew she could only push so far.
She had to figure out what was going on with her body. Losing the “ugly thing” wasn’t a big deal, but the crucial part was not being able to smell pheromones!! How was that any different from an ordinary person?!
Song Yuran instinctively touched the back of her neck, feeling a slight protrusion. Only the gland in her neck could vaguely confirm that she had differentiated into an Alpha.
Whether it was a proper Alpha was another matter.
Back in the office, the matter of resigning was temporarily put aside. While her colleagues were busy, Song Yuran secretly opened a web browser.
After searching, she learned that the doctor’s suggestion yesterday to stay for a full-body examination was not without reason. Differentiation wasn’t always smooth; some people experienced after-effects. Some symptoms would gradually recover over time, but it was also possible they wouldn’t.
The final conclusion of her search was that a full-body examination at a hospital was necessary to check if any issues arose during the differentiation process, in order to receive effective treatment.
Song Yuran was very distressed.
Not being able to smell pheromones bothered her greatly, but if she went to the hospital, it would definitely expose her delayed differentiation. And even if, by some miracle, she was cured, what would she do if she ended up with that “ugly thing”?
Just as she was caught between a rock and a hard place, a small window popped up in the lower right corner of her page: Famous Doctor Online Free Consultation! >>>>
Without hesitation, Song Yuran moved her mouse and clicked on the window.
Even if it was selling fake medicine, she’d accept it. She desperately needed to find a way to restore her sense of smell.
Song Yuran told the doctor about her current situation, describing everything truthfully except for her age.
Doctor: Based on your description, this is an issue that arose during the differentiation process, and there are many possible causes. The current solution is still to go to the hospital for a detailed examination. Otherwise, this physical defect as an Alpha will greatly affect your future.
Defect? Song Yuran, having lost half an ounce of “meat,” thought to herself, Isn’t it a defect? My proud large chest shrank due to this damned differentiation. Isn’t that a defect?! As for that thing, she didn’t care about it at all.
Although she used to crack dirty jokes with her friends, that didn’t mean she could accept becoming a “transsexual.”
Unregistered User: I can’t smell pheromones right now. Can this also be cured?
Doctor: Some people can’t smell pheromones for a short period after differentiation. If treated promptly, it can gradually recover. Don’t worry.
Unregistered User: Is it possible for it to recover naturally without treatment?
Doctor: Natural recovery is also possible.
On the stark white screen, Song Yuran’s eyes only focused on the words she wanted to see: “natural recovery,” “possible.”
Rounding up, it meant it could naturally recover! Song Yuran was overjoyed. Then what was the point of a check-up? All she had to do was pretend to be a proper Alpha until her pheromone sense of smell returned. Besides, no one would randomly release pheromones.
With the pheromone issue seemingly resolved, Song Yuran’s worried expression gradually brightened. She looked up at the manager’s office diagonally behind her; the department manager had just gone in.
She picked up her resignation letter and quickly followed, entering the office after knocking and receiving permission.
The manager was an Alpha. Aside from a slightly bad temper and occasional arguments with the department supervisor over work, she was generally reasonable.
Song Yuran concocted a perfect reason for resigning, but as soon as she handed over the report, the manager glanced at it and pushed it back, before she even had a chance to explain.
“I can’t process resignation applications here,” the manager quickly said. “You’ll have to take it to the HR department. They’ll review it, and then you can resign.”
The HR department wasn’t on the same floor, but company policy was company policy, so Song Yuran had no choice but to take her resignation letter upstairs.
“Eighth floor, huh…” Song Yuran sighed. Her reflection in the elevator’s mirrored door showed her current appearance.
Today, Song Yuran had chosen a casual shirt. Its V-neck collar generously revealed her long neck and fair collarbones. One corner of the hem was casually tucked into her jeans, making her look fresh and capable.
A business-casual shirt was a style Song Yuran rarely tried before. Now, paired with her outfit, it made her look tall and slender. Song Yuran finally understood why cool girls were often described as very “Alpha.”
Alpha? At the cost of her br3asts.
Just as Song Yuran was lost in her newly unlocked style, a “ding” sounded above her head, and the elevator doors slowly opened.
Once the doors fully opened, Song Yuran took a step forward, intending to enter, but froze upon seeing the person inside the elevator.
She exclaimed in surprise, “How are you here?”
Unlike the style she saw that day, the person in front of her wore a dark green suit, paired with a chiffon oatmeal-colored shirt inside. The open neckline revealed her beautiful swan neck and a large expanse of fair skin. A black mole on the side of her neck added a touch of ascetic beauty.
The shirt’s hem was fully tucked into her suit trousers, making her legs look straight and long, perfectly embodying the phrase “all legs below the waist.”
Her side-parted bangs were styled in large, goddess-like curls, her long, brown wavy hair casually draped over her shoulders. The curve of each strand was astonishing.
Rachel was clearly also surprised. Her beautiful face was even clearer than that night, and her bright red lipstick gave her a cold and glamorous aura.
And those amber eyes now held a mix of surprise and confusion.
Soon, Rachel spoke.
“It’s you.”
“Lei Feng.”
“………”
Hearing that untimely name at a reunion, Song Lei Feng Yuran’s mood was a bit complex.
