I Woke Up And Found Myself Married - Chapter 1
There seemed to be a cloying sweetness in the air, one that made Ji Fuyi feel restless.
She glanced around at the crowd. The grand ballroom, bathed in colorful lights and rich decor, was filled with women in backless evening gowns and men in tailored suits clinking glasses, exuding the unmistakable aura of a high-profile business gala.
Suddenly, her gaze was drawn to a woman.
The woman wore a black floor-length gown that revealed only her delicate collarbones. Her upturned, almond-shaped eyes shimmered with charm as she chatted and laughed with her friends, sipping a glass of rosé champagne.
She seemed genuinely engaged in the conversation, gesturing lightly from time to time, her eyes focused on the person before her—deep and mesmerizing, like the ocean, beckoning others to dive in and explore.
Ji Fuyi suddenly felt even warmer. It was as if the temperature around her had risen three degrees and all the oxygen had been sucked from the room.
Her gaze stuck to the woman as if it had a will of its own, trailing from her flowing black hair down to her fair ankles, finally locking onto those smiling eyes. At the moment their eyes met, the woman seemed to wink at her.
Ji Fuyi’s brain short-circuited, and she flirtatiously winked back.
“Did you change your perfume? Why does it smell so sweet?” Yan Shu walked over at that moment and asked, “Why are you staring at Yu Wei like that?”
“Was I staring?” Ji Fuyi reached up to touch her face, a little in disbelief.
So her name is Yu Wei. What a lovely name—it suits her eyes perfectly.
“You call that not staring?” Yan Shu gave her a once-over, surprised. “So many people here, and your eyes are glued to just her.”
She looked Ji Fuyi up and down again, clearly confused. Ji Fuyi was always half-distracted at events like this—why would she fixate on one woman?
“Your eyes are definitely acting suspicious.”
“Really?” Ji Fuyi casually picked up a glass of wine and linked her arm through Yan Shu’s. “Introduce me.”
“She just came back from overseas. The youngest daughter of the Yu family. I’ve known her for years,” Yan Shu explained as they walked. “This is your type?”
As they approached Yu Wei, the sweet scent in the air grew stronger. Ji Fuyi felt slightly dizzy and bit her lip subconsciously.
As if sensing something, Yu Wei turned and smiled at her.
Her gaze floated over the crowd and settled on Ji Fuyi, her lips curved gently in a smile.
In that moment, the entire party seemed to fade into grayscale. In Ji Fuyi’s eyes, only that pure black silhouette remained.
Ji Fuyi paused in her steps, unable to move forward. She suddenly realized what that sweet scent meant—it was temptation, seduction, a trap.
It was Yu Wei’s scent.
Their eyes met across the room—an intangible yet electric connection, like the spark of static electricity when changing clothes on a winter’s day.
She was already feeling overheated and overwhelmed by the sweetness in the air, but Yan Shu remained completely unaffected, still chatting excitedly beside her.
Ji Fuyi didn’t respond. She couldn’t. That woman not far away had stolen all her attention.
Why, out of so many people, was she the only one who could smell Yu Wei?
She didn’t have time to think about that. Yan Shu had already brought her in front of Yu Wei, casually introduced them to each other, and then disappeared into the crowd.
Yu Wei looked at her and smiled. “Ji Fuyi. What a lovely name.”
When she smiled, her almond eyes lifted just a bit, gleaming like rippling waves on water.
Ji Fuyi blushed unexpectedly. She cleared her throat and tried to compose herself. You’re twenty-eight. You’ve been in the entertainment industry for years. You’ve seen it all—why are you falling for this kind of trick?
But when she looked into Yu Wei’s eyes again, they were innocent and clear, brimming with sincerity.
Ji Fuyi gently tapped her glass against Yu Wei’s and asked, “I heard you just came back from abroad. Are you adjusting well?”
“Perfectly. Everything’s great,” Yu Wei narrowed her eyes like a clever little fox. “I saw your billboard at the airport. You’re so beautiful. Are you a celebrity?”
Ji Fuyi nodded. Though she was well-known across the country, she hadn’t quite reached global fame. It made sense Yu Wei, who’d been living abroad, didn’t recognize her.
“Wow. Then I want your autograph,” Yu Wei said, taking a sip of her champagne and leaning in closer. “You’re even more gorgeous than the billboard. Absolutely stunning.”
Her breath brushed against Ji Fuyi’s ear, making her earlobes flush red. Ji Fuyi instinctively tucked her hair behind her ear, trying to stay composed.
She turned toward the window and changed the subject. “There’s a moon out tonight.”
“There is,” Yu Wei followed her gaze and asked thoughtfully, “Want to go out and see it?”
“…Sure,” Ji Fuyi answered, almost without thinking.
The garden outside the ballroom was dimly lit. The wind was cool, but it did nothing to dispel the alcohol in her system. Under a secluded tree, Ji Fuyi sat on a wicker chair—and Yu Wei’s hand gently landed on hers.
She didn’t pull away. Instead, she intertwined their fingers, tracing circles on Yu Wei’s hand, earning a soft laugh in response.
Yu Wei leaned closer, her eyes deep and unreadable.
Ji Fuyi could feel her warm breath graze her skin. When she looked up, she fell straight into Yu Wei’s gaze—hypnotized, as if bewitched—and kissed her.
The heat between them grew as they leaned in closer and closer.
“Stop…” Ji Fuyi pressed a hand to Yu Wei’s. “Not here.”
“Oh?” Yu Wei’s tone was playful. “So a different place is okay?”
“What do you think?”
Ji Fuyi stared into her eyes. Yu Wei’s gaze immediately tangled around hers, filled with mischief.
“Going back to the party for more drinks?” Ji Fuyi asked.
Yu Wei giggled softly and took her hand, pulling her to her feet and walking toward the exit.
As soon as the hotel room door clicked shut, Ji Fuyi turned and pressed Yu Wei against it. Her long lashes cast faint shadows under her eyes, which now flickered like a quiet flame.
“So assertive, are we, Miss Ji?” Yu Wei whispered, catching her wrist.
Ji Fuyi’s breathing grew heavier as she looked at her.
“You’re adorable like this.”
Yu Wei gazed down at her, her eyes traveling to Ji Fuyi’s golden hair spread across the sheets. Ji Fuyi’s face flushed under her gaze. She rolled to the side, trying to cover herself with a soft throw.
It was useless. Yu Wei casually tugged it away—along with Ji Fuyi’s gown.
Outside, the wind had begun to howl. A drop of rain tapped the window. Then more. One after another. Soon, it became a full downpour.
The storm beat against the glass, tinted gold by the dim lighting inside. Transparent droplets blurred the window, glowing faintly.
Soft, fierce, relentless—the rain fell all night long.
Under the weight of the stormy night, golden and black strands of hair tangled together. The only thing one could feel was the heat where their fingertips met.
By the time dawn broke, the rain still hadn’t stopped, tapping out a rhythm that stirred the heart.
Yu Wei woke slowly, only to find the bed beside her empty.
The air still carried Ji Fuyi’s scent—fresh and sweet, like chilled watermelon on a summer day. Not overly sugary, not too aloof—just enough to make her crave more.
The mingled scent of pheromones and sweetness lingered in the air, a silent testament to what had happened between them.
Wrapped in Ji Fuyi’s fragrance, Yu Wei realized: if her scent still lingered, she probably hadn’t been gone long.
She jumped out of bed, threw on a robe, and dashed to the window, yanking the curtains open.
Outside the high-rise hotel was a blanket of fog—no trace of Ji Fuyi’s silhouette.
Yu Wei: …
This isn’t how it’s supposed to go! In CEO romance novels, isn’t there always a bittersweet moment of watching the heroine walk away? All she got was a foggy skyline?!
She pulled her robe tighter and looked around the room. The table was empty. Ji Fuyi’s things were all gone.
Heartless woman, Yu Wei thought, scratching her head. Something wasn’t right. She searched the room again—Ji Fuyi really hadn’t left anything behind.
…Or so it seemed.
Wasn’t she supposed to at least leave a phone number? Maybe a lipstick mark on a napkin? A note for a second round?
How interesting.
Recalling Ji Fuyi’s eyes—even when she tilted her head and her eyes shimmered with moisture, there was still an undertone of cold detachment.
She had clearly enjoyed herself, yet seemed unaffected.
The more she thought about it, the more curious Yu Wei became.
She sat at the edge of the bed, lit a cigarette, and spotted a pamphlet on the nightstand. The cover featured Ji Fuyi—blonde hair, red lips, a radiant smile, and those alluring collarbones.
She knew exactly how seductive those collarbones were—her fingers had traced them hours ago, along with places even more intoxicating.
Yu Wei picked up the pamphlet and discovered Ji Fuyi had left something behind.
On the first page, scrawled in bold strokes, was her name:
Ji. Fuyi.
Yu Wei read it aloud, one syllable at a time, and it was like Ji Fuyi’s sultry gaze passed over her again. Scenes from the night flashed in her mind, impossible to ignore.
Still holding the pamphlet, Yu Wei sat quietly, contemplating her life.
She’d come back to China, attended her family’s party, met a stunning and seductive celebrity, and—without warning—ended up in bed with her.
It was supposed to be a one-night stand. If they met again, they’d act like acquaintances. But…
She still longed for her scent, her soft lips, her kisses, her every strand of hair.
She was addicted. Yu Wei knew she was doomed.
Ji Fuyi hadn’t left a number—but Yu Wei was never the type to sit back and wait. If she was interested, she’d make her own opportunities.
She messaged her friend to get Ji Fuyi’s number and dialed.
“Miss Ji,” she said softly as soon as the call connected, her voice gentle, hoping to make a good impression. “Be safe on the road.”
Ji Fuyi’s voice was cool: “Hello, who is this?”
Yu Wei: “…”
What the hell? She sounded completely different from the warm, passionate woman from last night!
Yu Wei hesitated. “It’s… Yu Wei.”
“Oh,” Ji Fuyi’s voice warmed slightly. “The one who slept with me last night. Hm?”
