I Woke Up And Found Myself Married - Chapter 13
Ji Fuyi stood downstairs at the apartment for ten minutes but ultimately didn’t call Yu Wei to ask her to come back.
After returning home, Ji Fuyi hugged her little cat that came pouncing over. As she gently stroked its back, she kept glancing at her phone.
Ten minutes passed. Then half an hour. Then an hour. Then three.
No matter how far the distance, Yu Wei should’ve been home by now.
Ji Fuyi still hadn’t received a call from Yu Wei. She felt a bit anxious, yet she didn’t know whether to break their unspoken rule and call her first.
As time dragged on, her phone stayed silent.
That night, Yu Wei never contacted her.
…
The next day, the first thing Yu Wei did upon waking up was check her phone. Though her notifications were full, not one of them was the message she was hoping for.
She lay in bed, her finger swiping across her chat with Ji Fuyi.
Their conversation was still stuck on a message from days ago—Yu Wei had sent a picture of a stray kitten she saw on the street and asked if it looked like “Spacebar” (Ji Fuyi’s cat).
Ji Fuyi had replied:
“Yes ^_^”
A dated emoticon followed the short text, which somehow made it look adorably innocent.
Yu Wei stared at those few words, hoping the top of the chat would show “Typing…”—but no matter how long she waited, that moment never came.
Ji Fuyi didn’t contact her that day.
—
Ji Fuyi’s schedule for the week was packed, with several magazine shoots lined up.
In the brief pauses between the studio and the makeup room, Ji Fuyi would occasionally zone out. Yu Wei’s face would flash through her mind—sometimes accompanied by the memory of her kiss. That was usually the moment Ji Fuyi would snap out of it and sneak a glance at her phone.
The screen was always empty. No new notifications. The little red dot she longed to see never appeared.
Throughout that week, Yu Wei never contacted her.
…
After the final shoot wrapped, Ji Fuyi stepped out of the makeup room feeling relieved. Yet a familiar emotion—one she had felt that night—crept up on her again. Fleeting, unfamiliar, but real.
She sat in the backseat of her nanny van, feeling strangely alone.
The people around her were crucial to her work, and she’d always been able to turn to them for professional advice. But now, she had a different kind of frustration—one she couldn’t share with anyone.
Her finger swiped through her recent calls, subconsciously scrolling back… until Yu Wei’s name appeared.
She stared at it for a while, flipping back and forth on that page several times.
Just as she was about to accidentally hit dial, an incoming call popped up.
“Hello? Fuyi, are you off work now?” came the cheerful voice of Yan Shu, along with the clinking of bottles and background chatter. “We’re at a get-together. Are you coming? We finished karaoke and are heading to dinner now!”
Ji Fuyi was exhausted, but Yan Shu’s lively tone was hard to refuse. And besides… Yu Wei would definitely be there.
That thought alone felt dangerous. Why was she so eager to attend just because Yu Wei would be present?
Still… she couldn’t suppress the urge.
“Okay,” Ji Fuyi replied softly. “Send me the address. I’ll be there soon.”
…
By the time Ji Fuyi arrived at the club, the group had just left the karaoke room and was heading to the restaurant, laughing loudly enough to fill the entire venue.
She spotted Yu Wei immediately.
Yu Wei wore all black—normally the type to blend into the crowd—but Ji Fuyi picked her out in an instant.
She looked happy, joking with a quiet girl beside her. Her ponytail bounced as she gestured with her hands, making the people around her laugh.
It felt like when she wasn’t around Ji Fuyi, Yu Wei became someone else entirely.
A textbook Alpha: outgoing, sociable, a natural leader. Charming in any crowd.
Ji Fuyi suddenly felt unsure. The sly, occasionally silly Yu Wei she knew—was that the real Yu Wei? Or was it this version?
“Fuyi! Over here!” Yan Shu had sharp eyes and spotted her quickly, waving enthusiastically to indicate where the group was sitting.
Ji Fuyi shelved her thoughts, put on a warm smile, and greeted them, “So fast? What’s for dinner?”
Yan Shu counted on her fingers. “Just the buffet at the western restaurant—less of a hassle.”
Yu Wei was right behind her. Ji Fuyi could feel her gaze—hot, like sunlight warming her back.
She straightened up but didn’t turn around.
A few seconds later, she thought she heard a faint sigh.
And then, Yu Wei hooked her arm through hers. That familiar fresh mint scent enveloped Ji Fuyi, easing the tension that had weighed her down the past few days.
Yu Wei’s voice was soft, audible only to her:
“I really can’t deal with you.”
Just that one sentence—and Ji Fuyi felt her heart sink, like something unseen had pulled it from her chest.
They walked into the restaurant and made their way toward the bar.
Ji Fuyi picked up a glass of champagne and gently raised it toward Yu Wei. She clinked her glass in response.
Then, Ji Fuyi set her glass down and walked toward the restroom.
As she pushed the door open, Yu Wei suddenly caught her wrist, swung the door wider, and followed her inside—then immediately pinned her against it.
“Mm—”
Yu Wei’s kiss came without warning. Ji Fuyi barely had time to gasp before their lips met. The heat of Yu Wei’s breath nearly melted her senses.
“S-Slow down…”
Between kisses, Ji Fuyi struggled to speak, but Yu Wei wasn’t listening. Her kisses were wild and fervent, biting and stealing Ji Fuyi’s breath. She wrapped her arms around her, locking her tightly in her embrace.
“…You came here for me, didn’t you?”
Yu Wei looked her in the eyes, standing so close that her beautiful gaze shimmered with a watery sheen. It made her look especially adorable.
“Didn’t you?” she whispered again.
The next second, Yu Wei tilted her chin up, lips brushing against hers.
The overwhelming scent of mint was enough to make Ji Fuyi’s knees go weak. She had to clutch at Yu Wei’s neck just to stay upright, supported only by Yu Wei’s firm hold around her waist.
“…Kind of,” Ji Fuyi finally admitted, her defiance melting.
Yu Wei gave her lips a quick peck and said:
“Good girl.”
Ji Fuyi bit her neck and sneered, “You’re not allowed to talk like that right now.”
“Oh?”
Yu Wei chuckled, her voice low and teasing. “But later I can, right?”
Ji Fuyi shook her head, trying to pull away—but Yu Wei had her tightly locked in her arms. There was no escape.
“Let’s sneak out,” Yu Wei suddenly suggested, eyes sparkling like stars.
“Huh?”
“Pretty sure no one noticed us.” Yu Wei grinned innocently. “Let’s sneak away and go have fun—just the two of us.”
Her bright smile made Ji Fuyi’s heart skip a beat.
She never enjoyed big parties much. Before, she attended for social obligations. Tonight, it was all to see Yu Wei. Now that she had… the party didn’t seem so important anymore.
Sneaking off together sounded… oddly thrilling.
She’d never done anything like it. But at that moment, it felt like the right kind of fun.
“Come on?” Yu Wei tilted her head, blinking. “Fuyi jie~ Let’s go.”
Her soft voice sounded like cotton candy. Ji Fuyi couldn’t resist—she nodded.
Yu Wei excitedly made a peace sign and quietly opened the bathroom door, whispering, “We’ll sneak out the back to the parking lot. Just follow me—don’t let anyone see.”
Suppressing her laughter, Ji Fuyi followed her, hugging the wall like some movie spy.
Yu Wei kept turning back and motioning “shhh,” as if genuinely afraid of getting caught.
She looked so serious about it that it was almost funny.
It was such a small thing, but it felt oddly exciting.
Ji Fuyi’s heart pounded as she trailed Yu Wei, watching her reach behind and wave her forward every now and then.
So silly. So adorable.
They finally made it to the parking garage and got into Yu Wei’s car.
“…We drank earlier.”
Yu Wei had just started the engine when she remembered, and immediately deflated. “Why did I have to drink that glass!”
Ji Fuyi, sitting in the passenger seat, gave her a slight smile and said:
“Because I invited you to.”
Yu Wei: “…”
True. Ji Fuyi had raised her glass at her earlier, and she hadn’t even thought twice—she just drank.
Ji Fuyi hadn’t even said anything. Just smiled a little.
And yet she couldn’t resist anything she asked.
Yu Wei slumped against the steering wheel. “Now what do we do… we can’t go anywhere.”
Ji Fuyi chuckled and reached out to pat her head. Teasing: “So what? Go back to eat dinner?”
“…Not cool at all.”
“Oh?” Ji Fuyi leaned in close and whispered into her ear. “I heard someone has a long-term hotel room here…”
Yu Wei nodded. Then shook her head. Then nodded again—before nervously asking, “…Can we go?”
Ji Fuyi tilted her chin up at her. Yu Wei suddenly felt her mouth go dry.
…
The elevator dinged on the 31st floor.
Yu Wei led Ji Fuyi to the suite and once again pinned her against the door just like before.
Ji Fuyi laughed and shook her head. “Same trick twice? Not good.”
“I won’t use it twice.”
Yu Wei gave a small laugh, voice soft with a teasing lilt—like a feather brushing beneath Ji Fuyi’s chin.
Her hand slid under Ji Fuyi’s skirt, fingers teasing lightly along a patch of skin.
“What don’t you want?”
Yu Wei asked knowingly.
Ji Fuyi’s scent was now almost cloyingly sweet. Her fingers instinctively curled around Yu Wei’s, breath growing ragged as she murmured:
“Don’t… stop…”
