I Woke Up And Found Myself Married - Chapter 15
“Fiancée?”
Ji Fuyi looked at her, her face completely expressionless.
Yu Wei, whose mind usually worked fast, suddenly froze. She opened her mouth, but no words came out.
Seeing her silence, Ji Fuyi shook her head slightly and said, “So, you do have a fiancée.”
She lifted the blanket and got out of bed, turning her back to Yu Wei, picking up her clothes one by one from the floor. Her shirt concealed her seductive waistline, and only her long, slender legs were exposed beneath the hem of her skirt. She combed her golden hair with her fingers while walking toward the door. The fair skin of her neck bore a few kiss marks—each one suggestive and impossible to ignore.
“Fuyi…”
Yu Wei called out her name. Ji Fuyi did stop.
She stood at the door and turned back to look at her.
Yu Wei suddenly felt cold all over. The soft duvet did nothing to warm her. Ji Fuyi’s cold gaze was filled with deep disappointment, like a sharp blade stabbing straight into her heart.
“It’s not what you think…”
She tried to explain, but Ji Fuyi interrupted her.
“Then what is it?” Ji Fuyi chuckled softly, turning her head to the side. “You do have a fiancée, don’t you?”
Yu Wei wanted to say, I’ve never even met her. I only found out after I came back to the country. But the moment she opened her mouth, Ji Fuyi asked again, “You have a fiancée, right?”
“…Yes,” she replied weakly.
“Then it’s true,” Ji Fuyi picked up her bag, still facing away from her. “I’m the one who didn’t understand the situation clearly. Since you have a fiancée, we shouldn’t be in contact anymore.”
She paused, then added:
“I hope this doesn’t affect your married life.”
She didn’t give Yu Wei another chance to speak, slamming the door shut behind her with a loud bang.
As she walked down the empty hallway, the bite mark on Ji Fuyi’s neck throbbed faintly—a painful reminder that she might’ve made a mistake.
The pride she had in her judgment meant nothing in front of reality.
She fled into the elevator as if running away. Why does Yu Wei have a fiancée?
Yu Wei’s smile involuntarily surfaced in her mind—not just her smile, but the warmth of her fingertips when she held her hand, and the silly, sweet things she used to say. Once amusing, they now felt unbearable.
Ji Fuyi stood in the elevator and allowed herself to feel heartbroken for a few seconds.
Before stepping out, she looked in the mirror and fixed her hair to cover the kiss mark.
Back in the hotel room, Yu Wei stood frozen for a few moments before finally snapping out of it. She grabbed her clothes off the floor and threw them on while rushing to the door. The moment she opened it, the hallway was already empty.
Ji Fuyi was gone—just like the first time they met.
Yu Wei rushed to the underground parking lot, calling Ji Fuyi again and again.
Each time she called, Ji Fuyi would immediately hang up.
Yu Wei knew this would only push her further away, but she was terrified—terrified that if she stopped calling, Ji Fuyi would vanish from her world forever.
She drove out of the hotel but didn’t know where to go.
Rain started falling. At first, it was a fine mist, painting streaks across the windshield. Then it came down harder, pounding against the glass until she couldn’t see the road ahead.
Eventually, the calls went from being rejected to:
“The number you dialed is temporarily unavailable.”
She’d been blocked.
Yu Wei pulled over, lowered her head, and sat in silence. She didn’t know what to do.
They had no formal relationship. That temporary mark—they meant nothing. Even though she knew Ji Fuyi’s address, she had no right to show up there.
Ji Fuyi’s scent still lingered on her—soft and sweet, making her own minty pheromones seem warmer. But the person who warmed her had left in the coldest way.
Even the scent on her fingers now felt like mockery…
In the downpour, Yu Wei restarted the car, not knowing where to go.
When she finally stumbled home, the apartment still looked freshly decorated. Just days ago, she’d been wondering what excuse she could make to invite Ji Fuyi over. Would she like her couch? The throw pillows? The rug?
Now, the white lights spilled across her lonely figure, the room deathly quiet.
Yu Wei curled up on the sofa, phone in hand, constantly checking the screen—but just like the past few days, there was no call, no message.
Her heart clenched and relaxed over and over again. She and Ji Fuyi hadn’t been in a relationship—so why did it feel like such a painful breakup?
Last time, she’d joked about it and called Yan Shu to say she’d been “dumped.” She’d even gone drinking.
But this time… she couldn’t even bring herself to say the words breakup.
They weren’t dating. So how could she call this heartbreak?
Still, she wanted to explain things. Ji Fuyi’s look of disappointment had pierced her.
After much thought, Yu Wei finally had an idea: a text message. She could write everything out clearly.
She leapt up from the sofa and carefully typed:
“Fuyi, about the fiancée—after I came back, I found out my dad arranged it. I’ve never met her. I don’t even know her. I never agreed to it. But I didn’t tell you before, and that’s my fault. I’m really sorry for hurting you. I’ll take care of it. Can we still keep in touch?”
She read it over and over. Something felt off, but she didn’t know what to change. She hovered over the send button, too scared to hit it.
Why did my dad have to arrange a fiancée?!
Why did it have to be misunderstood by Ji Fuyi?!
Yu Wei felt a wave of frustration. She hadn’t done anything wrong, yet Ji Fuyi had stormed off and said those awful words, like she never wanted to see her again.
Neither of us did anything wrong…
She kept editing the message.
Minutes passed. The rain stopped.
Finally, she hit send.
Will Ji Fuyi reply?
Yu Wei’s heart hung in the air like it was dangling from a cliff, awaiting judgment.
She checked her phone again and again—no response.
Her message had sunk into the sea.
She didn’t dare send another, afraid Ji Fuyi would block her texts next.
Maybe they’d bump into each other at a friend’s gathering someday—but Ji Fuyi wouldn’t be the same Ji Fuyi anymore.
She meant what she said: if she didn’t want contact, she would cut it off completely. Yu Wei knew exactly what kind of person she was.
Still, she kept thinking—what else could she do?
Just as she was going over everything again, her phone rang.
Yu Wei’s heart leapt—Is it Ji Fuyi?!
But no. It was… her dad.
Her mood immediately fell again.
She answered, only to hear her father’s booming voice:
“Where did you run off to again?! Hanging up on me this morning—where did you learn that? Get home for lunch at noon!”
Yu Wei quietly replied, “Dad, I’m not coming back for lunch.”
She felt so exhausted, she just wanted to lie on the sofa and rest.
“Not coming home?! Where are you messing around now? I told you to live at home—you won’t. Told you to go to work—you won’t. Told you to meet your fiancée—you won’t. What do you even want?!”
Yu Wei said calmly, “My exhibit is opening soon. I hope you’ll come.”
“What exhibit?! I sent you abroad to study so you could do this nonsense?! I’m telling you—whatever else you don’t do, you must meet your fiancée!”
Those three words again—fiancée.
They ignited something in Yu Wei’s mind. Ji Fuyi’s disappointed eyes flashed before her, and the kiss mark throbbed again.
She no longer dodged the topic. She said, cool and firm:
“I don’t want a fiancée.”
Her father paused.
“Say that again?!”
“I said, I don’t want a fiancée.”
Yu Wei held back her anger and stayed calm.
“I don’t want one. I won’t meet her. I want to choose for myself.”
“You’ll meet her whether you want to or not!” her father roared.
Yu Wei sighed. “I really won’t.”
She stood from the sofa, went to the door to change her shoes, and held the phone away so she wouldn’t have to listen to his yelling.
She threw on a jacket. She was heading to the area near Ji Fuyi’s company—maybe she could “accidentally” run into her.
She couldn’t go to her home. She couldn’t go to her office. But if it was a chance meeting… saying hello would be okay, right?
Trying to stay optimistic, Yu Wei stepped outside. Just before the elevator closed, her father asked:
“You don’t want a fiancée? Then what do you want?!”
Yu Wei thought for a moment, then simply replied:
“I want the person I like.”
She hung up before the elevator doors shut.
Ji Fuyi’s company wasn’t far. In twenty minutes, she arrived.
The prestigious media company had multiple towers in the CBD, each rising high into the sky. Their glass facades reflected cold, sharp light.
Yu Wei didn’t know if Ji Fuyi would be in today. But she’d have to come eventually, before filming started.
She sat at a dessert shop across the street, watching the building’s front entrance through the window, hoping Ji Fuyi would appear.
She didn’t know how long she waited. After finishing three bowls of red bean shaved ice, she gave up and left the shop.
She’s not coming today, I guess…
Just as she was about to leave, a familiar figure appeared—
