I Woke Up And Found Myself Married - Chapter 17
“The meeting is arranged for this weekend. Do you have time?” Mother Ji looked at her worriedly. “If not, can you make some time?”
“Mhm,” Ji Fuyi replied calmly, her tone betraying no emotion. “I have time.”
She had just wrapped up filming and had finally returned home. She shared a meal with her mother—tomato-braised beef that had simmered for hours. The tomatoes had completely broken down, infusing the beef with their flavor. It had always been the most comforting food to her, yet today, it felt completely tasteless.
After dinner, Ji Fuyi made an excuse about work and went back to her own place. She collapsed onto the sofa, utterly drained. Waves of dizziness washed over her, taking a while to subside.
She had just eaten—why did she feel so dizzy? Maybe she was simply too tired.
It had indeed been a long time since her last routine check-up. With her demanding workload, who knew what was going on with her body? Ji Fuyi had always taken care of her health, so she immediately scheduled a full medical examination for the next day.
Just as she was about to take a nap, her phone rang.
Yu Yiyi’s anxious voice came through the receiver: “Who was that person you met at the company entrance today? You’ve been photographed.”
“What photo?”
Ji Fuyi’s temples began to throb, a strange sensation creeping through her body.
“I’ve sent it to your WeChat. Take a look. Who is she? Do you know her?”
While still on the phone, Ji Fuyi opened the photo. The moment she glanced at it, the dizziness crashed down like a tidal wave. Her headache intensified so much she could hardly keep her eyes open.
The image was blurry, but the identity of the person was unmistakable.
In the photo, Yu Wei had her long hair tied into a ponytail and wore all black—elegant and composed. Her delicate features made her look like a true beauty.
They were standing extremely close. Yu Wei’s head was slightly tilted toward her, reaching out a hand. It looked like she was about to embrace her in the next second.
Only Ji Fuyi knew that at that moment, she had flung Yu Wei’s hand away and told her not to follow—not the tender scene the photo seemed to depict.
“This is…”
Ji Fuyi hesitated for a second, but then decided to tell the truth.
“She’s the Alpha who marked me.”
Yu Yiyi gasped sharply, her voice jumping an octave: “She came to your company?! How could you be so careless!”
“Sorry. I didn’t know beforehand,” Ji Fuyi explained calmly. “We had some unresolved issues. I’ve made things clear, but it seems she didn’t take it well. I’ll handle it.”
“I trust you can take care of your personal matters,” Yu Yiyi said after thinking for a moment. “The company will suppress the photos this time, but be more careful next time.”
Ji Fuyi simply gave a brief acknowledgment and hung up. She still felt extremely dizzy and weak. The moment she lay on her bed, she fell asleep instantly.
She didn’t know how much time had passed before she woke up again. The sky outside had already darkened.
She stayed curled up in bed for a while before lazily getting up to find something to eat. Strangely, the deep fatigue clinging to her didn’t fade even after that long nap.
What was going on?
A vague sense of unease crept up on her.
After a simple dinner, Ji Fuyi remembered that she still needed to call Yu Wei.
Sitting on the couch, she absentmindedly rubbed her phone. The screen lit up and dimmed repeatedly. Her lips pressed into a firm line—she still hadn’t made the call.
She stared out at the night skyline for a while before finally dialing Yu Wei’s number.
The phone rang only once before Yu Wei answered.
“Fuyi!”
Her voice was filled with excitement.
“Mhm.” Ji Fuyi replied indifferently. “It’s me.”
Yu Wei’s tone immediately dulled as she said, “I’m so happy you called… You saw my message, right? About the fiancée thing—I only found out after I returned to the country…”
“I called because I have something to tell you,” Ji Fuyi interrupted, her tone all business.
“You came to our company today and got photographed. I’ll let it go this time, but don’t come again.”
Yu Wei was stunned. She hadn’t expected Ji Fuyi’s call to be about her causing trouble again.
“I won’t do it again,” Yu Wei said softly. “It was impulsive. Next time I’ll let you know first.”
There was a brief silence before Ji Fuyi said, “Don’t look for me again. You should be looking for your fiancée.”
“I haven’t even met her!” Yu Wei grew anxious and started explaining rapidly. “I didn’t know anything about this until I came back! My dad just sprung it on me—I thought he was joking! I don’t even know who she is!”
“Whoever she is, it’s not me.” Ji Fuyi clutched her chest. Her heartbeat was erratic, and breathing was becoming difficult. “So don’t look for me again.”
“I’ve already told my family I won’t be meeting any fiancée. Please, just give me some time.”
Standing at the exit of A City’s airport, Yu Wei clutched her phone, her palm burning hot. Something vital hung in the air of this conversation, freezing her steps.
“You don’t need my time. I don’t need yours either.”
Ji Fuyi took a deep breath, feeling slightly better. Then she chuckled:
“I also have a fiancée. Please stop contacting me.”
Yu Wei froze.
“…What did you say?”
She thought she was hallucinating.
“I said,” Ji Fuyi repeated with surprising patience, “I have a fiancée. Stop bothering me.”
“Where did this fiancée come from?!” Yu Wei’s voice turned small and aggrieved, which made Ji Fuyi nearly laugh.
“You have a fiancée. Isn’t it only fair that I have one too?”
Yu Wei asked without much hope, “Are you lying to me?”
“No,” Ji Fuyi answered bluntly.
Then she hung up.
To her own surprise, she felt a flicker of strange satisfaction.
At A City Airport, Yu Wei stared at her phone like she’d just been struck by lightning.
Where the hell did this fiancée come from?!
She immediately turned around and rushed to the airline counter to book a return flight.
She had to find out who this person was!
As she completed the ticket purchase, she was practically fuming. Her heart was filled with frustration toward this “stranger” she hadn’t even met.
Who could it be that managed to become Ji Fuyi’s fiancée?! She was ready to explode!
Yu Wei was so distracted she couldn’t think straight. All she could focus on was the phrase: Ji Fuyi’s fiancée, Ji Fuyi’s fiancée…
She had only left for half a day, and Ji Fuyi had already conjured up a fiancée. What kind of speed was that?!
She had actually thought she had time to sort everything out. What time?! If she didn’t go back now, she was convinced Ji Fuyi’s next call would be to send her a wedding invitation.
Yu Wei grabbed her ticket and marched out of the airport, anxiety weighing heavily on her chest.
That night, she barely slept.
In her broken dreams, she saw Ji Fuyi in a white wedding gown, her beautiful collarbones exposed—so breathtaking it was unreal. Yu Wei desperately ran toward her, trying to push away the person standing next to her. But no matter what, she couldn’t get close.
She could only watch Ji Fuyi walk past with a cold expression, the hem of her dress brushing through a flurry of falling petals that vanished in Yu Wei’s hands the moment she touched them.
She woke with a start and couldn’t sleep a minute longer.
Huddled on the sofa, she passed time minute by minute, wishing she could return to B City as soon as possible.
By noon, she finally boarded the plane, her nerves frayed as she stared out at the clouds.
Usually, flights were her favorite time—she could read or watch a movie in peace. But today, every word on the page seemed to dance around, refusing to make sense.
Yu Wei realized that she couldn’t think about anything except Ji Fuyi.
Her voice kept echoing in her head:
“I have a fiancée. Don’t contact me again.”
That sentence was suffocating, like someone pressing a sharp object against her throat.
One moment she was burning with jealousy, desperate to know who this woman was. The next, she wanted to escape it all—pretend she hadn’t heard anything.
Yu Wei’s thoughts were a mess. She didn’t even notice that she’d bitten her lip until it bled.
Meanwhile, far away, Ji Fuyi was also staring at the sky.
Her emotions were tangled with helplessness and confusion.
She had come in for a check-up, so why was she now standing in the OB-GYN office, being stared at so seriously by the doctor?
“What’s going on?”
She sat on the couch, sipping ice-cold lemon water. This private hospital charged a fortune but offered impeccable service.
“Miss Ji, I suggest you avoid cold drinks,” the doctor said sternly, glancing at her cup.
Ji Fuyi was confused. All the values in her test report were normal. Nothing had mentioned avoiding cold beverages. After her cardiopulmonary exam, the doctor had suddenly recommended a gynecology consult.
“Miss Ji, your differentiation occurred quite late—you didn’t present as an Omega until age twenty-five, is that correct?”
The doctor looked worried, as if something terrible had happened.
Ji Fuyi nodded. “Yes. The differentiation specialist said it was rare.”
“Indeed, very rare. A delayed differentiation can also result in a delayed heat cycle—and it becomes harder to predict…”
The doctor’s gaze swept across her, finally settling on the mark at her neck.
“From the look of things, you’ve already gone through heat?”
“Yes.” Ji Fuyi recalled that day and replied a bit awkwardly. “I have.”
“That makes sense. Given how late your differentiation was, and the instability of your pheromones…”
The doctor pushed up her glasses and said:
“…this child’s condition is not looking optimistic.”
Ji Fuyi froze, her mind blanking out. It took her a moment to process what was just said.
“…What did you say? What child?”
