I Woke Up And Found Myself Married - Chapter 18
“What child?”
Ji Fuyi looked at the doctor, utterly confused.
“Your child,” the doctor pushed up her glasses and looked at Ji Fuyi seriously, as if she were telling a joke. “Your pheromones aren’t stable. Based on our examination, the condition of the child isn’t very optimistic. If you want to keep it, you’ll need to be extra careful in your daily life…”
“Sorry, hold on a second.”
Ji Fuyi interrupted the doctor’s long explanation and said, “Are you saying that I’m pregnant?”
“Yes, didn’t you know?”
Now it was the doctor’s turn to be puzzled. She lowered her head and carefully reviewed the medical records. It did state that the patient had come to the hospital for a check-up due to dizziness, nausea, and frequent headaches. But judging by Ji Fuyi’s reaction, it was clear she had no idea what was happening to her body.
“Didn’t you come in today because you suspected you might be pregnant?”
“Sorry… I had no idea that was even a possibility…”
Ji Fuyi shook her head, trying to maintain a calm appearance while frantically recalling what she had learned in school health classes. She asked:
“Isn’t pregnancy only possible with a permanent mark?”
“Your pheromones are quite special. When your differentiation occurred, the doctor should’ve told you your condition wasn’t like most people’s,” the doctor explained patiently.
“While it’s rare to get pregnant from a temporary mark, your situation is unique in two ways. One, your physical makeup is different. And two—whoever marked you…”
The doctor gave a slightly teasing, inquisitive smile.
“They could smell your scent, right? That legendary 100% compatibility.”
Ji Fuyi didn’t know what to say. Her brain felt like it had been stuffed with tangled threads.
Something she thought would never happen… had actually happened, against all odds.
She was pregnant.
With Yu Wei’s child.
For a moment, Ji Fuyi wanted to hold her head and scream. She could no longer stay calm.
Seeing her expression change several times, the doctor gave a light cough to draw her back to the present.
“If you want to keep the baby, you need to take good care of yourself. We’ll give you a checklist of precautions…”
“I don’t want it.”
Ji Fuyi abruptly interrupted, her face going pale.
“Ah… Well, I suggest you talk it over with your partner first. Given your unstable pheromones, unexpected situations are more likely…”
The doctor kept talking, but Ji Fuyi had already tuned out.
Partner? She and Yu Wei weren’t anything.
Ji Fuyi stuffed the stack of reports into her bag and, the moment she got home, collapsed onto the couch, not wanting to move an inch.
Her kitten, seeing how listless she was, meowed softly and rubbed against her leg, trying to get her attention.
Ji Fuyi picked up the kitten and buried her face in its soft belly, letting out a gentle sigh.
Don’t even mention talking to a partner. The situation had already become far more complicated than she’d ever imagined.
Yu Wei clearly had a fiancée, yet she kept pestering her. Ji Fuyi felt that any lingering fondness she had was already gone. And yet, even though she was already starting to feel some resentment, why did Yu Wei’s face still flash before her eyes at a time like this?
Irritated, Ji Fuyi thought of the blind date scheduled for the weekend and grew even more agitated.
Her head began to ache again, and as she lay on the sofa, she gradually drifted into sleep.
…
By dusk, Yu Wei finally landed at B City’s airport.
The first thing she wanted to do was go find Ji Fuyi.
But then she remembered Ji Fuyi’s phone call and suddenly had no idea what to do. If she went to Ji Fuyi’s company again, she’d definitely be blocked. And she absolutely couldn’t show up at Ji Fuyi’s home.
Yu Wei hugged a pillow and sighed on the couch.
She never expected that after flying all the way back to B City, just a few kilometers away from Ji Fuyi, knowing exactly where she was and where she went, she still couldn’t see her.
She wanted to throw caution to the wind and just go see her. But the moment she imagined Ji Fuyi’s cold gaze—how troubled she might feel—her heart felt nailed in place. She couldn’t move.
She lay on the sofa, feeling a deep sense of helplessness.
Why was it that just the thought of upsetting Ji Fuyi made her unable to do anything?
She had flown all the way from A City just to see her.
And what about Ji Fuyi’s fiancée? When were they meeting?
Just thinking about that made Yu Wei anxious. She wanted to see Ji Fuyi before that, but she had no reason.
She sent Ji Fuyi a message. This time, it wasn’t even marked as read.
Yu Wei spent the week in a haze of anxiety, checking Ji Fuyi’s social media countless times. But Ji Fuyi hadn’t updated anything since the day she wrapped filming.
Yu Wei tried getting some information indirectly from Yan Shu and others, but didn’t get anything useful.
Yan Shu said Ji Fuyi had never had any rumors since debuting and that she was the kind of person who, outside of her work, had no public personal life.
“She’s such an A-type Alpha. I bet she gets flocks of Omegas throwing themselves at her daily, and she’s never interested in any of them. It’s almost inhuman…” Yan Shu marveled.
Yu Wei listened speechlessly. She thought Ji Fuyi’s fake-A act was really top-tier. She wasn’t like those fake, flashy types who wore suppressants and pretended to be Alphas.
She was completely absorbed in solving the mystery of “Who is Ji Fuyi’s fiancée?” and totally forgot about her own affairs—until she got a call from her father.
“Weiwei,” Father Yu began with an uncharacteristic sigh, “You’ve been away from home all the time lately. If you don’t get along with us, we won’t force you to stay. Kids grow up…”
Yu Wei suddenly felt guilty. “Dad, I didn’t mean that. I’ve just been really busy lately…”
“I know, you’re busy. You studied art overseas for so many years, and we don’t really understand that kind of thing. We’re getting old and can’t keep up with you youngsters. Whatever you want to do, Dad supports you,” he said gently. “I won’t ask you to come home, but your grandpa came to see you this weekend. At least come home for dinner.”
The moment Yu Wei heard “grandpa,” guilt surged in her heart.
Her grandpa had basically raised her. She was deeply attached to him. Now that he had come to see her, and she didn’t even know?
“When did he arrive? Why didn’t anyone tell me?”
“You’re busy, right? He’s been here a few days, and we didn’t want to bother you. He asked to have dinner with you today, so I’m calling now.”
“Where are we eating?” Yu Wei grew anxious. Her grandpa must be heartbroken that she hadn’t shown up. “I’ll go right now.”
“I’ll send you the address. Dress nicely and come over to make Grandpa happy.”
Yu Wei glanced at the address—it was at a famous restaurant in the city. Her dad even included the name of the private room on the top floor, all traditional-style décor, which her grandpa loved.
Yu Wei immediately rummaged through her closet, trying on several dresses one after another. Then she carefully put on makeup, determined not to disappoint her grandpa.
At 6 p.m., Yu Wei drove to the restaurant. As expected, her parents were waiting in the lobby.
“Why didn’t you go sit with Grandpa?” she asked as soon as she entered. “I could’ve come by myself.”
“We thought you might not find it,” her mom said, looping her arm through Yu Wei’s and giving her a once-over. “Not bad. Grandpa will love how you look.”
“Of course,” Yu Wei smiled as they rode the elevator. “No way I’d show up looking bad in front of Grandpa.”
Just as she finished speaking, her parents exchanged a look—they planned to reveal the truth at the door.
Yu Wei followed them upstairs, having no idea what was coming.
At the private room’s entrance, her parents suddenly stopped.
“Weiwei, you go in by yourself,” her dad said.
Yu Wei immediately felt suspicious. Why were they making her go in alone to see her grandpa?
Her dad looked at her, coughed, and said, “We’re giving you young people a bit of privacy. We won’t be going in.”
Young people? Privacy?
Yu Wei was stunned—she finally understood.
Her parents hadn’t brought her here to see her grandfather. They had brought her to meet her fiancée!
Yu Wei stopped in her tracks and said firmly, “I’m not going in!”
…
Meanwhile, inside the restaurant’s private room, Ji Fuyi was already seated at the table, waiting to meet her “fiancée.”
After a round of motherly advice, her mom had gone to the adjacent room, saying she’d already told the other family that young people needed space.
Ji Fuyi’s mind was in turmoil. She kept rehearsing how to politely but firmly say she wasn’t interested in the blind date.
Even aside from the situation with Yu Wei, just the child alone…
There was no way she could go on a blind date.
Just as she was refining her internal speech for the third time, she heard a loud commotion outside.
Ji Fuyi raised an eyebrow. Looked like this “fiancée” had quite the temper. It wasn’t going to be easy to talk things through.
The noise outside kept going, along with what sounded like arguing, giving her a headache.
Just as she was wondering how best to handle it, the crashing stopped—and then she heard someone shout angrily:
“I absolutely will NOT meet her!!!”
Ji Fuyi frowned.
Why did that voice sound… so familiar?
