I Woke Up And Found Myself Married - Chapter 20
Ji Fuyi’s tone was tinged with teasing, just enough to keep the atmosphere from becoming awkward.
Even though her words were sugarcoated, they still landed in Yu Wei’s ears like a thunderclap, jolting her awake.
She instantly realized—Ji Fuyi must have overheard everything she said earlier, which is why she now thought Yu Wei didn’t want to get married.
Yu Wei wished she could time travel back an hour and shake some sense into herself—why had she stood at the door, without even seeing the person, and declared she wouldn’t get married?
She couldn’t even imagine how Ji Fuyi must have felt when she heard her say, “I’m Yu Wei, this arranged date is a complete misunderstanding…”
Not to mention all those other things she’d said to stress her determination not to marry.
It was… so hard to explain! Yu Wei’s face burned with embarrassment—it was all her own doing.
Her thoughts were in complete disarray, but one voice screamed inside her head: Ji Fuyi said she wanted to cancel the engagement—because you said you didn’t want to marry her!
Perhaps Yu Wei’s expression was too shocked, because Ji Fuyi stared at her for a few seconds before asking:
“What’s wrong?”
Yu Wei’s face didn’t look right at all. If she didn’t want to get married, wasn’t this the perfect opportunity? She could just say she didn’t want it, then they could both go home and tell their parents they weren’t compatible, and that would be the end of it.
Yu Wei quickly shook her head and said, “I don’t want to cancel anymore.”
So childish. No conviction whatsoever. Now she says she doesn’t want to cancel? Did she think since she’d have to marry someone eventually, she might as well settle for someone familiar?
Ji Fuyi shook her head inwardly, offered a polite but distant smile, and said,
“Didn’t expect Miss Yu to be my fiancée. But since you already like someone else, I don’t mind canceling.”
Yu Wei’s expression changed rapidly—shocked, hesitant, speechless—all of which confused Ji Fuyi.
She decided not to care what Yu Wei was thinking and continued calmly:
“You don’t need to worry. I won’t stand in the way of you and the person you like.”
Yu Wei shook her head vigorously. She hadn’t expected things to end up like this—Ji Fuyi had completely misunderstood!
What do you mean, not stand in the way?
Ji Fuyi was the person she liked!
She hadn’t realized Ji Fuyi was the one she’d been set up with—when she said those things earlier!
Looking straight at Ji Fuyi, Yu Wei said sincerely:
“But you are the person I like. Why would I want to cancel?”
Ji Fuyi froze for a second, confused by Yu Wei’s sudden declaration.
Wasn’t the person she liked that quiet girl from before? Ji Fuyi had seen them chatting intimately several times. The first time she picked Yu Wei up from a dinner, they were practically cuddled up together.
Ji Fuyi shook her head and asked flatly, “The person you like is me?”
Yu Wei nodded firmly. She’d never had the chance to say it before, but now she finally could!
Ji Fuyi looked at her earnest face, not like she was lying—but it still felt absurd.
How could Yu Wei possibly like her?
Yes, Yu Wei treated her well. But… wasn’t she like that with everyone?
“Um, you never mentioned it before. Saying it so suddenly—it’s a bit much…” Ji Fuyi turned her head away, a rare show of unease. “Wasn’t that quiet girl the one you liked?”
As soon as Ji Fuyi said that, Yu Wei exploded.
“Who told you I liked Xu Sihan?!”
Ji Fuyi looked up at her and replied flatly, “Yan Shu said you were very close, grew up together. That night I picked you up from the party, you were leaning on her, looking all lovesick. Every time I saw you, you were laughing with her. So when you suddenly say you like someone—I assumed it was her.”
“I said I like you,” Yu Wei emphasized, then smiled slyly, “Are you jealous?”
“…Not really,” Ji Fuyi rubbed her fingers. There was a bit of discomfort, so she amended, “Maybe just a little.”
“Sorry for making you misunderstand. But I really don’t like her,” Yu Wei blinked sincerely. “I like you.”
“Enough already.”
Ji Fuyi frowned. Yu Wei was clearly being unserious—constantly saying she liked her, but how could she know if it was true?
“How do I know you’re not like this with everyone?”
“I’m not!” Yu Wei said, hurt. “I’m only like this with you.”
“How are you with me?” Ji Fuyi asked coldly.
“Uh, I just like you. I like talking to you, eating with you, clinging to you,” Yu Wei scratched her head, unsure how to explain. “It just feels weird—I don’t know how to describe it. I just like being around you.”
“You seem to like being around your other friends too.”
Ji Fuyi rolled her eyes. If Yu Wei couldn’t even explain it properly, how could she take her seriously?
“But I like being with you the most.”
Yu Wei looked pitiful. Ji Fuyi’s scent made her addicted—when she didn’t see her for a few days, she missed her. If that wasn’t liking someone, what was?
“Then you must have a second and third favorite too.” Ji Fuyi waved her off. “I don’t need that kind of love.”
Yu Wei felt hurt. Ji Fuyi hadn’t even let her finish explaining before judging her.
“We can just cancel the engagement. We’ll still be friends,” Ji Fuyi said more gently, seeing her lower her head. “Don’t make a big deal out of it. If you ever figure out you really like me, we can still be friends.”
Her gentle tone only made Yu Wei feel worse.
But something inside her snapped. She lifted her head and said firmly:
“I don’t want to cancel the engagement.”
“Yu Wei, don’t push your luck.” Ji Fuyi frowned. “I was willing to let the past go, but if you say you like me, then you’re also the one who hid the fact you had a fiancée, came to a blind date anyway, and now say you want to marry me—is that love really sincere?”
“You’re just doing this out of spite.”
“I’m really not,” Yu Wei insisted. “I really like you. It’s not out of spite.”
“Oh? Not out of spite?” Ji Fuyi smiled coldly.
“This is the first time you’ve said you like me—at a blind date of all places. Doesn’t that sound like an excuse?”
Yu Wei’s face flushed. Ji Fuyi was right. It was her first time confessing.
What a mess. Her first confession happened here?
No wonder Ji Fuyi didn’t believe her.
“It’s not like that,” Yu Wei composed herself and explained, “I didn’t tell you about the engagement because I didn’t think it mattered.”
“I said I’d cancel, and I told my parents I’d do it. I even said I wouldn’t come back from City A unless it was canceled.”
“But…”
Yu Wei looked a bit embarrassed and mumbled,
“When I heard you had a fiancée, I got mad. I didn’t think, just flew back.”
“I only came today because my parents lied and said Grandpa was visiting,” Yu Wei tugged at her collar. “Look—I’m wearing the dress Grandpa likes best.”
Ji Fuyi had already noticed her outfit. A soft pink-and-white dress, pearl necklace around her neck, hair curled softly, makeup light and charming—even her lips were a glossy jelly pink.
She’d never seen Yu Wei like this. At first, she thought Yu Wei was being contradictory—saying she didn’t want a blind date but dressing up so carefully.
Now it made sense.
If it was to see Grandpa—this style totally checked out.
So naive. Fooled by her own family.
That explanation, she could accept. But this so-called “liking” her? Not a chance.
How could Yu Wei like her?
Apart from those moments—when the air was thick with sweet scent, skin heated by desire, breath tangled with fingers—yes, Ji Fuyi could feel Yu Wei’s craving for her.
But outside of that?
No aimless kisses. No all-night conversations. No quiet silences. No sharing boring but meaningful things.
And until today, no confession.
Now, only because she saw her fiancée was Ji Fuyi, Yu Wei said she liked her?
A convenient excuse.
Ji Fuyi was tired of listening and softened her tone:
“I get it now. You thought you were meeting your grandpa—that’s why you dressed so cute.”
“You said I’m cute?” Yu Wei grinned and nodded excitedly.
“Fine. Let’s pretend you’re not acting on impulse.”
Yu Wei nearly cried with frustration. She’d never even given Ji Fuyi flowers!
“I really like you,” Yu Wei said, keeping it light. “You may not feel it now, but you’ll see.”
“There’s still a ‘later’?” Ji Fuyi chuckled.
“Yes!” Yu Wei beamed. “At least give me a chance?”
Ji Fuyi tilted her chin, smiling noncommittally.
Yu Wei vowed silently—she’d make her believe.
Ji Fuyi obviously thought she didn’t want to get married, and said—wait a second… Did she just say…
“We both don’t want to get married?”
We both?
Yu Wei frowned. Did Ji Fuyi mean she also didn’t want to?
“Wait, did you just say you don’t want to get married?” she blurted out.
“Of course.”
Ji Fuyi, distracted, ladled herself some soup. This whole blind date had been exhausting.
“I came today to cancel the engagement.”
Yu Wei froze again. Not only was Ji Fuyi her blind date, but they’d come for the same reason.
She had countless arguments ready to convince Ji Fuyi to stay engaged—but from her perspective, none of them were convincing.
“You don’t want to cancel?” Ji Fuyi lifted her chin, eyes narrowing. “Didn’t you just plead with me to set you free?”
Yu Wei laughed awkwardly. “Well, that’s because I didn’t know it was you I was marrying.”
“And if it’s me—you don’t want to cancel?”
Before Yu Wei could nod, Ji Fuyi continued with a fake smile that made Yu Wei nervous.
“Right, because you like me. Let’s assume you like me.”
“I do like you—not assume!” Yu Wei shot back.
“Okay, you like me.”
Ji Fuyi gave a perfunctory reply. But strangely, hearing those words left her feeling… lighter. As if the bitterness and suspicion she’d felt earlier had evaporated.
Even if it wasn’t real, words had power. At least for now, she could listen and pretend.
After drinking some soup and eating a few bites, Ji Fuyi ignored whether Yu Wei touched her food. The pregnancy had triggered a hunger she couldn’t ignore.
“Weiwei,” Ji Fuyi looked up after eating. “Last chance. If you want to cancel, tell your parents. I won’t get in your way. But no more lame excuses.”
“This isn’t an excuse,” Yu Wei poured her a glass of lemon water and pushed it over. “I really like you. You’ll see.”
Ji Fuyi stared at the lemon water. A memory surfaced—from that doctor’s office. That same lemon water.
And the doctor had calmly delivered some shocking news.
Ji Fuyi felt her headache worsening. The peppermint scent on Yu Wei constantly reminded her—there was a mark on her neck. A mark that had led to this pregnancy.
Yes… Yu Wei’s child.
If it was their child, then no matter what, Yu Wei had a right to know.
Might as well tell her now.
Ji Fuyi rubbed her temples and said,
“Let’s put that aside. There’s a situation you should know about. When I went for a check-up… the doctor said I’m pregnant.”
She paused, took a deep breath, and smiled faintly:
“But don’t worry. I’ll take care of it myself.”
Yu Wei froze.
What…?
A child?
Take care of it—what did that mean?
So much information hit her at once. She stared blankly for a while before realizing—Ji Fuyi might be pregnant!
And judging by how she said it—it was their child.
Of course. Temporary marking could lead to pregnancy. The timing matched.
Yu Wei had never expected this. She stood there in shock.
They were having a baby?
She looked at Ji Fuyi and began, “Are you…”
But Ji Fuyi cut her off.
“I’m pregnant. It’s your child.”
Those words filled Yu Wei with a burst of joy. Everything she’d been worried about seemed less heavy now.
“I wasn’t going to tell you, but I figured you had the right to know,” Ji Fuyi said calmly. “But I’m not asking you to take responsibility. I’ll handle it.”
Before Yu Wei could celebrate, she realized—“handle it” meant Ji Fuyi didn’t want the child.
She’d only told her because of today’s coincidence.
“Wait, you don’t have to do it alone!”
Yu Wei interrupted, hoping Ji Fuyi would reconsider. Whether or not she wanted the baby, they could face it together.
“I want to take responsibility.”
Her clear eyes made Ji Fuyi waver.
“We can get married,” Yu Wei said.
Ji Fuyi tilted her chin. “Now you want to get married?”
Yu Wei nodded. “Ever since I found out you’re my fiancée—I’ve wanted to.”
“Right away.”
Ji Fuyi laughed. “You just said you had no intention of getting married—was all your parents’ idea. No wonder they refused to cancel.”
“That depends on who I’m marrying…”
Yu Wei mumbled, “If it’s with you, I can’t wait.”
“Ridiculous.” Ji Fuyi nudged the water glass away. “Don’t make such big decisions just because it’s fun.”
“I’m not just having fun.”
Yu Wei frowned. “I’m serious.”
“Serious?” Ji Fuyi raised an eyebrow, her headache worsening.
She asked patiently, “We’ve only been together a few days, and you already want to get married?”
Yu Wei didn’t know how to respond. They’d only known each other for two months, most interactions… in bed. Not exactly solid ground.
But when she realized Ji Fuyi was her fiancée, she wanted to marry her.
She wanted a reason to legitimize her feelings.
But under Ji Fuyi’s logical questioning, it all felt immature.
Ji Fuyi didn’t get angry. Instead, she said softly,
“Weiwei, don’t joke around.”
Yu Wei lowered her head, feeling powerless.
She didn’t have any convincing reason. Even her love sounded childish.
She looked at Ji Fuyi and realized—this was why she said she’d handle the baby alone.
This child had come at the wrong time.
They weren’t really anything to each other, except for this shaky engagement Ji Fuyi wanted to cancel.
“I’m not joking.”
Yu Wei steadied herself. Ji Fuyi didn’t need words—she needed someone reliable.
“I do truly want to marry you. But you’re right—we haven’t spent much time together,” she admitted, “So tell me: you don’t want to marry me, or you don’t want to marry anyone?”
“I don’t want to marry anyone,” Ji Fuyi replied after a pause. “It’s just not in my life plan.”
“I see.”
Yu Wei smiled and offered a tempting proposal.
“Since you’re sitting here, clearly your parents do want you married. So… why not try with me?”
“Others might demand a lot, but I won’t.”
“You can keep doing what you want, even after we marry.”
“Oh?” Ji Fuyi looked intrigued. “Sounds like a contract marriage.”
“Yes! A contract marriage! Just come home to sleep. Publicly, we’re the perfect couple. Privately, do what you want.”
“Alright. Want to sign a contract before the wedding?” Ji Fuyi half-joked.
“Wow, you’re so cold,” Yu Wei stuck out her tongue. “Let’s sign one the night before.”
“You’ve really got it all planned out.”
“Of course. I’m smart,” Yu Wei grinned. “So… no more canceling the engagement?”
“Mm.”
Ji Fuyi thought of her mother’s face and the new red marks on her wrist—her being an Omega, the fear if her father ever found out…
Yu Wei’s proposal was tempting.
Ji Fuyi looked lost in thought—Yu Wei noticed. She’d seen many sides of her: superstar, social butterfly, the sweet girl who hooked pinkies…
She’d seen her flushed and breathless… but never like this—shrouded in a kind of pain no one else could see.
“Fuyi…”
She couldn’t help calling her name.
“What is it?” Ji Fuyi snapped out of it and smiled softly.
Yes. Something was definitely wrong. Yu Wei could tell instantly.
She wanted to ask—but Ji Fuyi didn’t want to talk. Her whole demeanor said “stay back.”
“Uh… I just wanted to ask if I can come with you to your next check-up?”
“Check-up?” Ji Fuyi blinked. “The hospital?”
“Yeah…”
“Well,” she said vaguely, “We’ll see how my schedule looks.”
She had planned to handle things herself. But now that they might marry, would Yu Wei still accept that?
“Okay. I’ll come with you,” Yu Wei said cheerfully. “Didn’t the doctor say partners should go together?”
Ji Fuyi nodded. The doctor had said that.
If that was the case, and she didn’t want the child, she’d have to take care of it before the wedding.
“Let’s go before the wedding,” Ji Fuyi said.
When Yu Wei heard wedding, her eyes lit up. She asked:
“So when are we getting married?”
