I Woke Up And Found Myself Married - Chapter 21
“It takes time to decide a wedding date.”
Ji Fuyi spoke calmly. After deciding to marry Yu Wei, she quickly regained her composure, brushed aside all distracting thoughts, and began planning the matters they needed to face next—something she was naturally good at and needed no reminder of.
“It’s too early for us to discuss that, and it’s not up to us alone. First, how are you going to explain this to your parents today? After just one meeting, not only are you not backing out, but you also want to get married as soon as possible. You’ll need a reason.”
“Uh… what kind of reason?”
Yu Wei scratched her head. She had never really thought about needing a reason.
“Love at first sight. Isn’t that good enough?”
“It is,” Ji Fuyi shrugged. “As long as your parents are okay with it.”
Even before the matchmaking began, she had already seen the problem—this marriage was a game of strategy. Their agreement was only the beginning. The entanglements that followed would be the real challenge.
“No problem, they’re dying for me to marry you,” Yu Wei said confidently. “More importantly, when are we going to the hospital?”
“I’m free the day after tomorrow. I’ve already booked the appointment.”
Hearing that, Yu Wei felt a warm happiness bubble inside her, like their relationship had taken a step forward.
“Okay, I’ll pick you up.”
Ji Fuyi nodded. They agreed on a time to meet and then parted ways.
That evening, Yu Wei, for once, went home.
As soon as she entered, she saw her parents sitting on the sofa, absentmindedly watching TV. When her father saw her, he signaled to her mother, who brought Yu Wei a glass of milk and, with a hint of anticipation, asked while watching her drink:
“So? How was it?”
Here it comes. Yu Wei told herself to stay calm and replied nonchalantly:
“It was fine.”
“What do you mean fine?”
Her mother immediately became anxious. “Fine” was too vague, open to interpretation in any direction.
“Fine means fine.”
Yu Wei looked puzzled. Did her mom not understand her?
“What do you think of the person?”
Yu Wei thought for a moment and gave the answer she had prepared in advance: “Very good. Love at first sight.”
Her father, mid-sip of tea, nearly spat it out when he heard that. He turned to her in surprise and asked:
“You were hell-bent on not going before, and now it’s love at first sight?”
Yu Wei nodded, chin up. “What, is that a problem?”
“You’re really something. I told them you didn’t want to go. When they asked, I said we’d wait and see!”
Her father glared at her.
“And now you tell me it’s love at first sight?! What, you planning to get married?”
“Yeah,” Yu Wei silently thought this might go off the rails, so she quickly added, “She’s the only one I’ll marry.”
That made even her mother chuckle.
“Weiwei, think carefully. You’ve only met once. If you change your mind after we start talking marriage, we’ll be the ones embarrassed.” Her mother warned.
“I won’t. I really want to get married,” Yu Wei clung to her mom’s arm. “I just didn’t expect it. If I had known earlier, I would’ve gone to see her right away.”
A hint of regret flashed across her mind. Truly, if she hadn’t insisted on not even glancing at her fiancée’s photo to prove how against matchmaking she was, all this chaos could’ve been avoided. By now, she might already be enjoying married life.
Yu Wei’s parents exchanged glances. Seeing she wasn’t joking, they nodded and said, “Alright, let’s go with it. Just get along well with her and stop hanging out outside all the time.”
Yu Wei nodded with a grin, silently wondering what kind of image her parents had of her. Did they really think she just fooled around all the time?
After staying home for two days and bonding with her parents, it was finally time for her to take Ji Fuyi to the hospital.
She arrived on time and rang Ji Fuyi’s doorbell. Ji Fuyi quickly let her in and asked her to wait a moment.
Yu Wei had been to her place many times before, yet sitting on the sofa now felt different—like it was her first time. She felt oddly nervous.
How strange. Why did this visit feel so different?
Yu Wei found it curious. Could simply changing their relationship status really make such a big difference?
She waved carefully at the white cat. As if oblivious to all recent drama, Blank walked past her in a dignified stride. But the moment it saw the snack in Yu Wei’s hand, it immediately came over and rubbed against her leg affectionately.
Ji Fuyi placed the medical file in her bag and walked out to see Yu Wei playing with the cat on the sofa. She paused for a moment, slightly dazed.
Though she hadn’t seen this scene before, it somehow felt familiar, like she had witnessed it countless times. Yu Wei’s presence here seemed natural.
Suppressing the strange feeling in her chest, Ji Fuyi said, “We can go now.”
“Oh, okay.” Yu Wei jumped up and waved reluctantly at the cat. “Blank, I’ll come see you next time, okay? Don’t miss me too much—I’ll be back soon.”
Ji Fuyi couldn’t help but chuckle at her words. “You’ll be back soon?”
“Yeah… soon. If you want me to, I’ll come any time.”
Yu Wei’s voice lowered, but she kept speaking. She wanted Ji Fuyi to know how she felt.
“Of course, I hope you want me to come. But if not, that’s okay too. Anyway, let’s not talk about that. You brought your file, right?”
“I did,” Ji Fuyi replied simply, deliberately ignoring the rest of her words.
“Okay, let’s head out,” Yu Wei said cheerfully. “Want to bring a sun umbrella? Some water?”
“No need.”
Ji Fuyi was briefly speechless. How had she never noticed before that Yu Wei cared about such details?
On the way to the hospital, Yu Wei chatted as she drove.
“After I got home, I told my parents it was love at first sight. Got scolded for it.”
“Oh?” Ji Fuyi was mildly curious.
“They said I was fickle. Even said if I dare back out of the marriage, they’ll break my legs. So cruel,” Yu Wei said pitifully, then asked, “What about your parents?”
“Me?” Ji Fuyi thought back to that day. Her mother had only asked a couple of symbolic questions, and after she gave a firm answer, never brought it up again.
“I make my own decisions. But the conditions might be… tricky.”
“Tricky how?”
“They might make things difficult for your family,” she paused. “My father still thinks I’m an Alpha. He might just marry me off carelessly.”
“Pfft.” Yu Wei couldn’t help but laugh. “Your dad really thought you were an A? You sure kept up the act.”
She had no idea the level of coldness involved in having to take inhibitors and pretend to be an Omega just to go on blind dates with Alphas.
Ji Fuyi just smiled and said nothing.
The hospital’s white walls looked cold and sterile.
Ji Fuyi was familiar with this hospital from previous checkups. She smoothly registered and received her medical file, but still felt slightly uneasy.
Gynecology.
This was only the second time she had stepped into this department. It felt absurd.
The doctor was the same one from last time. When she saw Ji Fuyi, she pushed up her glasses and said, “Miss Ji, you’re here.”
Her gaze landed on Yu Wei. She smiled and asked:
“Is this your partner?”
Before Ji Fuyi could respond, Yu Wei jumped in.
“Yes!” she said, linking her arm with Ji Fuyi’s and sitting beside her. “Legal partner.”
“Oh~” The doctor elongated the sound. “So you’re already married?”
She turned to look at Ji Fuyi, who averted her eyes, making the doctor feel a little suspicious.
She flipped through the file, reading the last diagnosis and Ji Fuyi’s previous reports.
“How have you been feeling lately, Miss Ji?”
It was a routine question, but Ji Fuyi felt uncomfortable. She had never feared cameras, but the stares from the doctor and Yu Wei made her oddly uneasy.
“Fine,” she said vaguely.
“Fine? Any discomfort?” The doctor looked her over. “We’ll still need to run some tests.”
Ji Fuyi nodded, already regretting asking Yu Wei to come along.
Her true intent… was to not keep the baby—not to have a check-up.
The doctor scribbled down a long list of tests and pushed it over. Before Ji Fuyi could grab it, Yu Wei had already taken it. The doctor gave Ji Fuyi a knowing smile, and she didn’t know how to react.
“What are you doing?” Ji Fuyi asked as they left the room.
“You’re being too enthusiastic.”
“There’s nothing wrong with that,” Yu Wei replied earnestly, her tone almost heartbreakingly sincere. “Is there a problem with being enthusiastic toward someone I like?”
She said it so naturally that Ji Fuyi suddenly felt awkward.
She remembered how, during their first meeting, Yu Wei had repeatedly insisted she liked her. At the time, she didn’t believe it. Words are easy, after all. But now? She hadn’t even taken the first step, and Yu Wei had already taken three.
Ji Fuyi entered the exam room alone, giving herself some space.
Maybe Yu Wei really did like her?
Once that idea formed, it wouldn’t leave.
When Ji Fuyi returned to the consultation room with her results, she saw how intently Yu Wei was listening to the doctor. She saw the look in Yu Wei’s eyes. She saw the lemon water Yu Wei passed her…
The heart she had hardened… slowly began to thaw again.
“Miss Ji,” the doctor suddenly asked, interrupting her thoughts, “you said before you didn’t want the baby. Do you still feel the same?”
Her tone was serious as she looked over Ji Fuyi’s report. Her brows furrowed deeply.
Before Ji Fuyi could respond, Yu Wei asked, worriedly, “Not want the baby… is there a problem?”
She didn’t dwell on why the doctor mentioned not wanting the baby—it might have been Ji Fuyi’s earlier stance. Since they hadn’t planned to marry at the time, not wanting the child made perfect sense.
All Yu Wei could focus on now was the doctor’s grave expression. It was terrifying.
“If she doesn’t want it, then there’s no issue.”
The doctor sighed.
“Miss Ji’s pheromone levels have been extremely unstable lately.”
Yu Wei didn’t understand what that meant, but then the doctor said:
“This child… it’s not looking good.”
“Not looking good?”
“Yes.” The doctor let out a long sigh.
“I’m afraid… you might not be able to keep it.”
