I Woke Up And Found Myself Married - Chapter 24
“Hmm?” Ji Fuyi unconsciously ran the tip of her tongue over Yu Wei’s finger. “Didn’t you say it was burned?”
She looked up at Yu Wei, her amber eyes tinged with concern. Her thick lashes cast tiny shadows, and the contrast of her rosy lips against her fair skin made Yu Wei’s heart skip a beat.
Yu Wei yanked her hand back as if shocked by electricity, cupping it protectively. She pitifully changed the subject, “Y-Yeah, it’s just a little burn. No need to do all that. Didn’t you want your milk? I’ll go get it for you.”
She reached for the milk again, and the moment her fingers touched the porcelain bowl—
“Aah! Hot, hot, it’s burning me!” she yelped.
Ji Fuyi: “…”
Without a word, Ji Fuyi opened the drawer beneath the microwave and took out a pair of microwave gloves—pink, patterned with white clouds. Rather cute, Yu Wei thought to herself. Who would’ve guessed Ji Fuyi liked this kind of thing?
Ji Fuyi carefully brought the milk out and set it on the table. She looked at Yu Wei and asked, “What’s with you today? Did you leave your brain at home?”
“Mmm, big sis says I have no brain.” Yu Wei pulled out a chair and sat beside her. She watched Ji Fuyi sip the milk slowly, her lips tinged with a bit of white. Reaching out to wipe it away, Yu Wei shrugged and muttered, “Now I’m unhappy.”
“Is that so?”
Ji Fuyi glanced around and spotted a candy jar on the table—transparent glass, filled with blue-and-white milk candies.
She pulled the jar over and poured out half the contents, forming a little pile on the table. She pushed them toward Yu Wei. “Here. Eat these and cheer up.”
“Candy? You think I’m a kid.” Yu Wei picked one up, unwrapped it, and popped it in her mouth. The sugary milk flavor spread over her tongue. “Ooh, it’s White Rabbit.”
She began stacking the candy into neat piles, then grabbed a handful and stuffed them into her pocket. Ji Fuyi saw and laughed. “And you still say you’re not a kid?”
“Kid, huh?” Yu Wei smiled slyly, eyes twinkling with mischief. But there was something dangerous at the corners of her lips.
“That’s where my actual kid would be,” she said, glancing meaningfully at Ji Fuyi’s belly.
Ji Fuyi’s mind froze for a second. By the time she processed what Yu Wei meant, Yu Wei had already been watching her reaction for a while, obviously enjoying it.
Ji Fuyi’s ears turned red. She grabbed a handful of candies and threw them at Yu Wei without saying a word.
“Ow! That hurts!” Yu Wei covered her head dramatically as candy rained down on her. “So sweet and painful—I love it!”
Ji Fuyi ignored her, finished her milk, put the cup into the dishwasher, and walked to the sofa. She tossed a slip of paper toward Yu Wei and lifted her chin with a smug look. “You wanted to see it.”
“Your dating list, huh…” Yu Wei grabbed the slip and sat next to her, mumbling, “Let’s see how long it is. Romance, wine, and roses, show me your sins.”
She unfolded it, and the first name she saw was one she knew all too well:
Yu Wei
Prefix: Friends with benefits.
Next line:
Yu Wei
Prefix: Fiancée.
The rest of the paper was blank. Yu Wei stared at it, her mind going blank as well.
It must be what it feels like to win a billion-dollar lottery on your very first ticket.
Ji Fuyi glanced at her stunned expression and felt a rare sense of satisfaction. Every time Yu Wei showed this helpless, stunned little look, like a kitten rolling over to show its belly, Ji Fuyi felt something soft stir inside her.
“Seen enough?” Ji Fuyi raised a brow and said calmly, “Should I get you a picture frame? You can hang it on your wall.”
“No need,” Yu Wei finally came to her senses. She glanced at Ji Fuyi, then turned away and folded the paper tightly before tucking it into her pocket. “I’m keeping it in my wallet! No one else gets to see it!”
“What are you, from the Stone Age? Who still keeps stuff in a wallet?” Ji Fuyi gave her a side glance.
“You gave it to me, so it’s mine,” Yu Wei replied proudly, excitement buzzing through her head. Everything felt pink and soft, the air smelled extra sweet and warm. She felt something had shifted—those moments when they used to instantly kiss and devour each other might not happen so impulsively anymore. There was something gentler now, like a slow-moving stream between them.
Things were getting better. Yu Wei was certain of it. She couldn’t help hugging Ji Fuyi tightly, wanting to kiss her cheek. But when she saw Ji Fuyi’s cool expression, she stopped herself.
“Who cares where I keep it,” she muttered, not daring to kiss her but certain Ji Fuyi wasn’t rejecting her either. Her tone turned smug.
Held in Yu Wei’s arms, Ji Fuyi was enveloped by her alpha scent—a cool minty aroma that lingered as Yu Wei breathed near her skin. Ji Fuyi felt the heat flare at the mark on her neck. It was pleasant, but unfamiliar.
“Can’t I care?” Ji Fuyi tilted her head slightly. Her lips brushed Yu Wei’s, soft and fleeting. Both froze.
Yu Wei’s arms around her tightened a little. It wasn’t suffocating, but just enough to be reassuring.
Then Yu Wei muttered, “You can care. You can care about everything.”
She lowered her head, her lips brushing Ji Fuyi’s ear. Though the tone was suggestive, the words were oddly upright:
“Even if it’s a contract marriage, it’s still a marriage. Abiding by the agreement is a virtue.”
Her breath was warm against Ji Fuyi’s ear. Ji Fuyi flinched reflexively—and then noticed the scent of Alpha pheromones thickening in the air.
The minty scent wove into an invisible net, slowly wrapping around her. Though it was crisp and cool, it carried a subtle possessiveness. Her skin prickled, especially where the mark was—it burned hotter.
She murmured, “Your pheromones…”
“Huh?” Yu Wei feigned ignorance, even leaning down to look at the back of Ji Fuyi’s neck. Her fair skin bore a soft reddish bite mark. Adorable.
“Oh, you mean those pheromones? Oops, didn’t notice.” Yu Wei gently rubbed her nose against the mark. “Bothering you?”
Ji Fuyi: “…”
Absolutely on purpose.
Yu Wei was doing it again—pushing her buttons just to see how she’d react.
Ji Fuyi took a deep breath, reached back, and tried to pry Yu Wei’s arms from around her waist. “It’s late. You should go.”
The clock ticked steadily. The hands were pointing to 3 a.m.
“It’s not late at all. Perfect time to go grab dinner,” Yu Wei said, still clinging to her, her chin resting on Ji Fuyi’s shoulder.
“Want to eat together? Or I can cook for you.”
“No need.”
Ji Fuyi gave her a pat on the shoulder, pushing her off.
“Had enough hugging yet?”
“Nope. I could hug you forever.” Yu Wei grinned. “Didn’t you know? After marking, Alphas get super obsessed with their Omegas.”
She emphasized the words their Omega—a tiny hint of pride slipping in.
“I do know,” Ji Fuyi said quietly. “But, Weiwei, is your love for me just that obsession?”
“Not really,” Yu Wei scratched her head. “At first, yeah. You smelled amazing… and, well, you were especially tempting in certain situations. That was the Alpha part. But later on, it changed.”
“I’ve thought about it a lot—why I like you. But I still don’t know.”
“Maybe liking is just… liking,” she said seriously. “Instincts and pheromones are one thing. But my feelings for you are another.”
“I feel it too. You smell amazing. I always want to get close to you. That must be our A-O instinct. But…”
Ji Fuyi remained quiet, her expression soft now that her guard was down. Without that usual cold sharpness, she looked gentler—something Yu Wei found even more enchanting.
“But I’m still not sure how deep my feelings go.”
“As long as you don’t hate me, we’re good,” Yu Wei said with a grin, flashing her white teeth. She looked like someone who knew she’d already won. “We’ve got plenty of time.”
Ji Fuyi didn’t confirm or deny it. She just hooked her pinky around Yu Wei’s and pulled her up, leading her to the door. “That’s enough for today.”
“That sounded weird. Like a prison visit. We’re not even married yet—why does it feel like we’ve divorced…”
Yu Wei grumbled as she bent down to put on her shoes. As she focused on tying her laces, Ji Fuyi bopped her on the head.
“Don’t talk nonsense,” Ji Fuyi scolded.
“It was nonsense,” Yu Wei replied cheerfully, standing up and spreading her arms. “I know you don’t want to divorce me.”
“Go already.” Ji Fuyi took a step forward and gave her a hug. “Be careful on your way back.”
“Got it, got it. You’re so sweet, sis.” Yu Wei smiled as she hugged her back tightly, burying her face into Ji Fuyi’s shoulder. “I’ll call you when I get home.”
Ji Fuyi said nothing. Her hands rested lightly on Yu Wei’s back, eyes glancing upward in mild exasperation.
“I’m off then.”
Yu Wei released her, walking past her toward the door. As she passed, her lips brushed lightly across Ji Fuyi’s cheek.
“Don’t miss me too much,” she said playfully.
The kiss was feather-light, barely there. Ji Fuyi wasn’t even sure it had really happened—but the faint trace of warmth lingered. That fleeting, restrained tenderness slowly spread across her heart.
Leaning against the doorframe, Ji Fuyi watched her go, her tone faintly teasing:
“Who’d miss you that much?”
“If you won’t miss me too much, that means you’ll miss me a little, right?” Yu Wei turned back and grinned. “You’ll see me again tomorrow anyway.”
“Hurry up and go.” Ji Fuyi waved at her. “You’re meeting my parents tomorrow to discuss the engagement. Don’t you need to go prepare?”
