I Woke Up And Found Myself Married - Chapter 25
“Of course I want to,” Yu Wei’s toes scratched at the floor, exuding a nervous energy. Under the warm orange light, she lowered her head, her voice filled with uncertainty. “I’m a little nervous—but just a little, don’t worry. I’ll definitely do great.”
“No need to be nervous.”
Looking at her, Ji Fuyi felt as though someone had suddenly opened an umbrella for her in the midst of a torrential downpour.
Just the preparations before the engagement alone were piling up. She still had some time now, but her schedule would be packed in the coming days, so all the meetups had been arranged recently. Ji Fuyi wasn’t worried about her own part, only about Yu Wei possibly being made to feel uncomfortable when meeting her parents.
She looked at Yu Wei gently, suppressing the trace of worry in her eyes, and smiled. “It’s not that scary.”
Ji Fuyi paused, then added, “I’ll be with you.”
The warm light bathed her face in a soft glow. Her amber eyes seemed to shine. Ji Fuyi wore a loose white T-shirt that hung casually off her frame, catching the soft yellow light and gray shadows on the fabric.
Yu Wei looked at her, and suddenly her heart skipped a beat.
Most of the time, Ji Fuyi was dazzlingly beautiful, often making her dazed with admiration—like a vast, stormy ocean crashing through her chest, every wave screaming how much she liked Ji Fuyi. But when Ji Fuyi stood before her, bare-faced and calm, smiling with a hint of weariness, Yu Wei felt that the storm had quieted. Beneath the calm sea surface, in the layered depths, was her love—more intense than ever, quietly filling her whole heart.
Looking into Yu Wei’s eyes filled with deep affection, Ji Fuyi felt like she was being wrapped in something—was it the scent of her pheromones? Soft and comforting.
“Weiwei?” she called softly. “Why… are you looking at me like that?”
“It’s nothing,” Yu Wei smiled at her. “You’re just really good-looking, so I wanted to look a little longer. I’m heading back now—don’t worry, I won’t embarrass you.”
She waved at Ji Fuyi, then turned and stepped into the elevator, disappearing from sight.
As the elevator doors closed, Ji Fuyi watched the red numbers count down until they hit B1, then she turned and shut the door.
In the spacious apartment, it was suddenly just her and the cat again.
Ji Fuyi had always thought this kind of peace was just right. But as she sat down on the sofa and hugged a pillow, she felt like something was missing.
It felt a little… empty.
The white kitten lay beside her legs, meowing softly. Ji Fuyi picked it up and stroked its fur.
What used to calm her heart only made her more aware of the emptiness in the house today.
Was it because Yu Wei was too lively? That as soon as she left, it was like all the energy had gone with her?
As she wondered why, Ji Fuyi absentmindedly turned on the TV. A popular variety show began to play, but she couldn’t focus on it at all. Her thoughts drifted until the doorbell rang.
At the door stood Yu Shu, her assistant. For some reason, Ji Fuyi felt a bit disappointed.
Yu Shu carried a plastic bag from the convenience store and said as she walked in, “Just restocking your fridge. I’ve scheduled a cleaning service—they’ll be over soon. Isn’t Madam coming for dinner tonight? I’ll go pick her up later.”
Ji Fuyi nodded distractedly, watching Yu Shu fill the fridge with various foods, then quietly retreated to her room.
Just thinking that only her mother would be there for dinner tonight made her feel irritated.
Originally, this dinner was supposed to include both her parents to discuss some engagement matters for tomorrow. But her father had called and said he was too busy and couldn’t make it—he’d show up directly tomorrow instead.
His tone was arrogant, as if he didn’t care about Yu Wei at all.
Even if Ji Fuyi and Yu Wei weren’t truly in love, it still left a bitter taste in her mouth.
At 6:00 PM, her mother arrived, carrying several bags. As soon as she stepped inside, she placed a few thermal containers on the dining table and spoke in a saccharine tone that was almost nauseatingly sweet: “Your place has no life in it at all. Do you even eat here?”
Ji Fuyi silently nodded and helped unpack the food. Then she asked, “Father will come tomorrow, right?”
“Of course he will. Fuyi, don’t be fooled by how your dad acts. He really cares about both of us…” Her mother’s tone was soft and full of affection, which only made Ji Fuyi want to sigh.
“Fine. Then make sure he comes on time tomorrow,” Ji Fuyi said with a warning tone, “Don’t cause any unnecessary trouble.”
She rarely spoke like that. Her mother noticed the change and asked uneasily, “What’s wrong?”
“I’m pregnant. It’s her child.”
Ji Fuyi said it with a blank expression:
“Don’t tell Father. Don’t cry to others. Don’t stir up trouble. Let’s just get this marriage done smoothly, and I promise I won’t bother you anymore after that.”
Her mother went silent. After a long pause, she finally spoke, her voice filled with complaint:
“How could you be so careless… Now how are we going to negotiate? This gives them leverage over us. Why didn’t you tell your father? First, you hid being an Omega, and now you’re hiding a pregnancy. He’s still your dad—do you think he’d hurt you? If you don’t say anything, how are we supposed to secure better terms?”
Though her tone was filled with concern, the complaints made Ji Fuyi feel deeply uncomfortable.
“Better terms? Even if it’s a business marriage, it doesn’t need to be this blatant,” Ji Fuyi kept her smile, “And you scheduled the first meeting for noon—it’s obvious you’re not sincere.”
“Not sincere?!” Her mother’s tone was filled with disdain. “Our Ji family is willing to marry into a family of nouveau riche—how’s that not sincere? If it weren’t for your premarital pregnancy, they should be the ones grateful for us…”
Our Ji family—Ji Fuyi’s heart burned with anger. Her mother always lumped herself with her father, but what had that family ever done for them?
Years ago, Ji’s father forcibly marked her mother and didn’t even want to marry her. He repeatedly marked her just to force a miscarriage. After all that, why was her mother still so devoted to him just because he finally married her out of pity?
Ji Fuyi couldn’t understand. The more she thought about it, the worse she felt.
Now her mother was saying these things again, completely disregarding how she felt.
“I’m sorry for embarrassing you with an out-of-wedlock pregnancy,” Ji Fuyi curved her lips into a mocking smile. “I should’ve learned from your example—not to repeat your mistakes.”
Her words made her mother’s face go pale in an instant.
“How can you say something like that?!”
She was nearly screaming.
Steam still rose from the food on the table, but the room had turned icy cold. Her mother’s gaze was like knives, fixed on her.
“If it weren’t for you…” she muttered with bitterness, “Would I have become like this?”
Ji Fuyi looked at her quietly. Her mother was so beautiful, eyes lowered with a glimmer of tears in them. Even saying such cruel things, she was heartbreakingly lovely.
“Yes,” Ji Fuyi sighed. “I ruined your life.”
She stood up and walked toward her room. “Don’t be late tomorrow.”
…
The Next Day, 11:30 AM
They went to the same restaurant where they had their blind date. Yu Wei parked in the underground lot and examined herself in the mirror.
After a long look, she still wasn’t satisfied. She turned to Ji Fuyi in the passenger seat and asked, “How do I look today?”
“You look great,” Ji Fuyi answered quickly.
“Really?” Yu Wei looked again in the mirror. “I feel like something’s off.”
“Do I look too immature?” she asked after a while.
Ji Fuyi glanced at the message she sent to her parents saying they had arrived—no reply, maybe they were driving. She put her phone away and looked at Yu Wei closely.
She wore a white shirt with black wide-leg pants, a small bowtie giving her a slight playful touch. Her hair was in a ponytail, her makeup delicate and natural—she looked like a well-behaved, upright young woman.
“You look great.”
Ji Fuyi leaned in and adjusted her bowtie, then softly added:
“You look better than ever.”
“Really?” Yu Wei sounded a little distracted. “So this is your type, huh?”
The moment Ji Fuyi leaned closer, her thoughts began to waver.
There was a pleasant scent on her—not just the sweetness of her pheromones, but something cool and gentle. Yu Wei wanted to kiss her.
So she did.
She leaned down and kissed her hair.
Ji Fuyi trembled slightly. Yu Wei’s kiss was light, like all those kisses she’d left on her cheeks and forehead—filled with tenderness, as though she was something precious, and that light peppermint scent turned intense in an instant, wrapping around her, fiercely claiming her.
“Weiwei…” she murmured softly, pressing down the trembling in her heart. “Let’s go. We don’t want to be late.”
“Okay,” Yu Wei gave her hand a gentle squeeze, then hopped out of the driver’s seat and opened the door for her. “Let’s go.”
“You’re so sweet today,” Ji Fuyi asked as she walked toward the elevator.
“I’m sweet every day,” Yu Wei stuck out her tongue, clearly in a great mood. “It’s just that you only noticed today.”
Ji Fuyi didn’t say anything and let her hold her hand all the way into the private dining room.
No one was there yet. After sitting down on the sofa, she heard Yu Wei sigh in relief.
“Still nervous?”
“A little,” Yu Wei took a deep breath. “They’re your parents, after all.”
Ji Fuyi patted her hand comfortingly, but a faint worry crept into her heart.
She still hadn’t received any messages.
The agreed-upon time was getting closer. Her parents showed no signs of coming.
What’s going on?
Ji Fuyi started to feel anxious but didn’t want Yu Wei to notice. She kept glancing at the clock and listening for footsteps in the hallway.
At exactly twelve, the time for the meeting, no one came.
Yu Wei, who had been gradually relaxing, tensed up again.
She glanced at Ji Fuyi, who hadn’t said anything but clearly looked worried. Nervously, Yu Wei held her hand.
She didn’t dare ask what was going on—she just silently watched the clock with her.
The seconds ticked by, minute after minute, and still, no one arrived.
Half an hour later, Yu Wei couldn’t hold back anymore. She tugged Ji Fuyi’s hand and asked softly:
“Fuyi… Are they not coming?”
