I Woke Up And Found Myself Married - Chapter 3
Yu Wei was so startled by those words that she felt her heart nearly leap out of her chest. She stood frozen at the entrance of the parking lot, not daring to take another step forward. Ji Fuyi’s attitude was too unpredictable—it left her at a complete loss.
“Really?” Seeing Ji Fuyi walking straight ahead, Yu Wei had no choice but to follow behind, her voice soft.
“Of course not,” Ji Fuyi turned and smiled. “What are you thinking?”
“I was thinking…” Yu Wei sounded a little disappointed. “I was thinking… of going home with you.”
“You silly girl.”
Ji Fuyi stopped in her tracks and turned to face her. The cold lights in the parking lot cast a pale glow over her figure, making her appear even more distant and aloof.
“Don’t push your luck.”
She tilted her head slightly, eyes locked on Yu Wei’s, golden curls resting on her shoulders, and red lips pressed into a straight line.
The words were filled with warning—so ruthlessly delivered in the cool air of the parking lot that they stung.
Of course, Yu Wei knew—it was just one night. She shouldn’t be clinging like this. But at that moment, a complicated and indescribable feeling welled up inside her. She stepped forward, closing the distance until they were almost nose to nose.
Ji Fuyi didn’t back away. She simply stood there, calmly looking at her.
“You invited me,” Yu Wei whispered, her breath warm against Ji Fuyi’s lips, laced with a hint of flirtation. “So who’s really the one pushing their luck?”
The air filled with a minty scent—Yu Wei’s pheromone—softly wrapping around Ji Fuyi, tugging at memories that hadn’t yet faded.
Ji Fuyi’s breathing quickened, her breath intertwining with Yu Wei’s in a lingering tangle. Yu Wei’s fingers brushed against the back of her hand, her voice low.
“Who is it?”
Ji Fuyi took a step back. She intended to turn and leave, but Yu Wei grabbed her wrist. Whether by accident or intention, a gentle pull brought Ji Fuyi leaning into Yu Wei’s embrace. Staring at Yu Wei’s innocent face, Ji Fuyi curved her lips and said:
“It’s me. What? Is that not allowed?”
They were so close, and that bittersweet scent of absinthe entwined with sweetness kept teasing Yu Wei’s senses, making her heartbeat quicken. Ji Fuyi was still looking at her with that gaze—it made the words she wanted to say stick in her throat.
“Of course… it’s allowed,” Yu Wei stammered. “So, are you going home now?”
“Mm-hmm. Yep.”
Ji Fuyi straightened up, putting a little distance between them. She smiled.
“What? You don’t want me to go?”
Yu Wei blinked, wanting to say yes, but when she remembered Ji Fuyi’s earlier cold expression, she hesitated. In the end, she just nodded.
Ji Fuyi burst into a laugh, increasingly intrigued by her.
“If you don’t want me to go, then how about a walk by the riverside?” Ji Fuyi tucked her car keys into her bag. “I had a bit to drink, after all.”
It was already late. Along the tree-lined path by the river, there wasn’t a soul in sight. Even the birds had returned to their nests. Only a full moon hung high in the sky, lighting up the heavens.
The breeze carried a damp coolness that brushed gently across their cheeks, making everything feel calm and light. Without realizing it, the heaviness in their hearts was lifted.
Yu Wei thought of how Ji Fuyi had left early that morning and how someone on the phone had been calling her urgently. She must be very busy, so she asked, “Don’t you have work tomorrow?”
“Of course I do, but I can go in a bit later.”
Ji Fuyi gave her a strange look—did she really not follow entertainment news? The movie she was in, Cloud Mountain, was one of the most anticipated films of the year. Ever since casting began, the news had been everywhere. The filming had wrapped, and they were just shooting some special effects scenes now.
Yu Wei asked curiously, “What’s a workday like for a celebrity?”
“Hm? When there’s a shoot, I go to set every day. Once we wrap, I do magazine shoots and interviews, sometimes some promotional work. That’s about it,” Ji Fuyi answered lazily, then asked, “You’re not into idol stuff, are you?”
“Nope, never have been,” Yu Wei scratched her head, a little embarrassed. “So I didn’t recognize you at first. Sorry about that.”
“What’s there to be sorry about? I’m not money—not everyone has to know me.” Ji Fuyi chuckled. “Being a celebrity isn’t anything special.”
“I was just curious,” Yu Wei puffed her cheeks and walked a little closer, wanting to hold her hand but not daring to. Instead, she tugged at Ji Fuyi’s sleeve. “Could I visit your set sometime?”
“We’ll see,” Ji Fuyi gave a vague answer instead of agreeing. “You studied abroad before?”
“Yeah, I studied art for a few years,” Yu Wei smiled brightly, showing off her white teeth. “I wanted to stay overseas and build my career, but my dad absolutely refused and made me come back.”
She kept smiling on the surface, but her heart sank.
She hadn’t wanted to talk about this, but Ji Fuyi brought it up, and she couldn’t help thinking about it again.
She was one of three siblings, and her parents never paid much attention to her. They sent her abroad in high school, and she studied there all the way through graduate school. She had originally planned to stay and bring her parents over when they got old. But then, her father got lucky—his business kept expanding and eventually became a leader in the industry. The Yu family’s status rose as well, becoming a new money powerhouse in the city.
As the business grew, so did his ambition. Worried about their weak social roots, Yu’s father began scheming like an old noble, picking through the children of business partners to find a suitable fiancée for Yu Wei.
Ever since she came back, he kept pestering her to meet her so-called fiancée every other day, driving her crazy.
Of all the things Ji Fuyi could’ve mentioned, she just had to bring that up…
Still, Ji Fuyi didn’t read too much into it. She simply assumed her parents missed her and wanted her home.
“I see,” Ji Fuyi looked at the moonlight and sighed. “You’re pretty obedient.”
Yu Wei didn’t respond—she just gave an awkward but polite smile.
Obedient? Not a chance. If she were obedient, she’d be meeting her fiancée right now—not walking here with Ji Fuyi.
Ji Fuyi was sharp and perceptive. Noticing Yu Wei’s silence, she didn’t press further. Instead, she subtly shifted the topic.
The riverside was peaceful at night. Tall trees cast moonlit shadows on the water’s surface, where faint light shimmered. A cool breeze carried away the lingering buzz of alcohol and replaced it with a different kind of intoxication.
For a moment, Yu Wei had the illusion that the person walking beside her wasn’t just a fleeting one-night stand. There was something else—a delicate emotion drifting in the air, stirring her heart.
When they reached the parking lot, Ji Fuyi came to a stop.
“Alright, I’m heading off,” she said with a smile, though her voice had grown distant. “Got stuff to do tomorrow.”
Yu Wei was confused. Just moments ago, the atmosphere was light and warm, and the river breeze still lingered on her cheeks. How had Ji Fuyi suddenly gone cold again?
“Um… should we stay in touch?” Yu Wei asked hesitantly.
Ji Fuyi curled her lips into a smile and shook her head. She couldn’t give the younger girl any more false hope. Last night, she had lost control under the influence of pheromones—but now that she was clear-headed, she couldn’t let Yu Wei get the wrong idea.
“We’ll see each other eventually,” Ji Fuyi smiled faintly. “No need to go out of our way.”
Yu Wei had a strong feeling—once Ji Fuyi left tonight, she’d become a stranger again.
Ji Fuyi didn’t say it out loud, but her actions spoke volumes: Don’t overthink it. This was just a chance encounter between adults.
Yu Wei was only a few years younger—hardly a naive kid. How could she not pick up on these signals?
Still unwilling to give up, Yu Wei said, “At least… your number?”
She tried to sound a bit playful, a hint of teasing in her tone. Ji Fuyi, who had only just steeled her resolve, felt her heart waver again.
“You can’t get through when I’m on set,” Ji Fuyi said, making up an excuse with a sigh. “It’s late. Go home.”
“Exactly—it’s late,” Yu Wei blinked at her with an innocent smile. “I can’t go home. My building has a curfew.”
Ji Fuyi: “…”
Now that’s just blatant pestering. She didn’t have a curfew yesterday when she stayed out all night, did she?
The soft scent of mint spread in the air—Yu Wei’s pheromone gently stirred Ji Fuyi’s senses, reminding her that this Alpha had once entwined fingers with her and could still control her reactions with a single breath. Ji Fuyi bit her lip, trying to keep her head clear.
“Stop using your pheromone on me,” she said flatly. “I don’t like it.”
Yu Wei jumped. She hadn’t realized her scent had enveloped Ji Fuyi. The air was thick with mint, blending with Ji Fuyi’s sweet aroma—a testament to the tension between them.
She felt a twinge of guilt and was about to withdraw her scent, but then she caught sight of Ji Fuyi’s expression.
She was biting her lip, already flushed red. Her eyes avoided contact, but her face still wore that calm facade.
Whatever guilt Yu Wei had was immediately pushed aside by something else—an Alpha’s innate desire to dominate. She didn’t want to see Ji Fuyi with that expression.
In an instant, the minty scent intensified—bursting into the air, overwhelming Ji Fuyi.
“You—”
Her legs gave way, and Yu Wei caught her by the arm.
“Careful.”
Ji Fuyi stared at her, like she didn’t recognize her. She wanted to say something, but her voice trembled.
“Withdraw your pheromone…”
“Okay,” Yu Wei gave her a wide-eyed, innocent look. “Sorry. I didn’t mean to.”
“It’s fine.”
Ji Fuyi shook her head, frustrated. She didn’t know whether Yu Wei was clueless—or pretending to be.
She had gone through her secondary gender differentiation late. For the longest time, everyone—including herself—thought she’d be an Alpha. When she ended up as an Omega, she still hadn’t fully adapted. That’s why she forgot her inhibitor yesterday, and now Yu Wei was pressing her with pheromones, making it worse.
Seeing her pale, Yu Wei stopped joking around. She didn’t say another word and just stood by her side, worried. Ji Fuyi’s pheromones surged uncontrollably—one moment intense, the next almost gone.
Frowning, Ji Fuyi said nothing. Yu Wei didn’t know if she should leave. She glanced at Ji Fuyi, who had her head lowered, silent.
“I’ll call you when I get home,” Yu Wei said lightly, trying to sound cheerful.
But just as she took a step, Ji Fuyi gently tugged at her sleeve and said in a quiet but firm voice:
“Stay.”
Yu Wei froze, unsure whether to stay or keep walking.
Then she heard Ji Fuyi sigh deeply and ask:
“Why are you so persistent?”
“I…”
Yu Wei turned around stiffly—and crashed into a pair of deep, unreadable eyes. Ji Fuyi looked straight at her, emotions flickering behind her gaze. Her red lips parted slightly:
“Don’t tell me… it’s love at first sight?”
