I Woke Up And Found Myself Married - Chapter 34
On the second day of their wedding, they finalized plans for a honeymoon trip to Summer Island—bought plane tickets, booked a hotel—completely disregarding what others might say.
When both sets of parents heard the news, they all frowned.
Yu’s mother, at least, was relatively polite and only said, “In such a rush?”
Yu Wei explained, “We saw a doctor earlier. They recommended a relaxing environment for rest—it would be more suitable.”
When Ji’s mother heard about this, she immediately called Ji Fuyi. “I heard you’re heading to Summer Island for a vacation soon? How can you be in such a rush? Are you skipping the rest of the ceremonies?”
Ji Fuyi looked at the diamond ring on her finger, thinking of Yu Wei’s tender, affectionate eyes as she placed it there. She replied casually, “Of course.”
Ji’s mother instantly became agitated. “How can you be so unruly? What will the relatives think of you?!”
Ji Fuyi, as if not understanding her words, replied coolly, “What do you mean?”
Holding the phone while pacing anxiously in her small apartment, Ji’s mother said, “You left the wedding halfway through with Yu Wei. I haven’t even asked where you went, and now you’re telling me you’re going on a honeymoon immediately? You two are just too disrespectful. You’re pushing your luck!”
Ji Fuyi chuckled. “Do you really want to know where we went?”
Her mother replied loudly, furious, “Yes! You ran off in the middle of your wedding! Where did you go? What are people supposed to think?!”
Ji Fuyi responded matter-of-factly, “I was pushed by Dad. We went to the hospital.”
Her mother froze, stunned silent for a moment, then whispered in disbelief, “He pushed you…?”
Hearing that soft, fragile tone, Ji Fuyi felt a wave of aversion rise within her. Memories she had buried deep began to surface—images of her mother always clinging to her father like a boneless, weak snake, her voice always soft and yielding, no matter how horribly he treated her. That tone had always made Ji Fuyi uncomfortable.
She cut off her mother’s rambling, saying, “You still don’t know how he treats us?”
Her mother murmured, “But he’s your father…”
Ji Fuyi sighed. She felt something inside her crack—like thin layers of ice that had long built up into a mountain finally shattering.
“Mom,” Ji Fuyi said softly, a tone that made her mother uneasy. “You can’t save someone who wants to drown. Take care of yourself.”
She hung up the phone. When her mother instinctively tried to call back, she found she couldn’t get through.
Ji Fuyi had blocked her.
When that realization hit, her mother collapsed onto the floor and cried into her hands, unsure of what to do.
After informing their parents, Ji Fuyi laid two suitcases open on the living room floor and began packing, following her prewritten list.
She traveled often—when joining film crews, her assistant usually packed for her. But for personal trips, Ji Fuyi always packed herself.
She enjoyed the process.
Ji Fuyi was methodical when packing.
She sorted outfits by category and placed pre-matched sets into separate garment bags to avoid daily mess. Shoes went into shoe bags on the sides of the suitcase—space-saving and practical for variety.
Just as she was choosing clothes, Yu Wei called via voice chat, sounding cheerful.
“Fuyi, do you want me to come help you pack? We’re going away for a month, and that’s a lot of stuff.”
“No need, I’ve got it,” Ji Fuyi shook her head, as if Yu Wei could see the gesture through voice chat. It was a habit of hers—she wasn’t too fond of voice chatting because she couldn’t see the other person’s face. It felt like something was missing.
Yu Wei, however, loved voice chatting. She could talk for hours, saying it made her feel relaxed.
They chatted idly while Ji Fuyi continued packing.
“Really don’t need help?”
Not long into the conversation, Yu Wei once again brought up helping her pack. She really seemed to want to come over.
“A month’s worth of stuff is no joke.”
“Mm, I’m fine. I like packing.”
Ji Fuyi placed her coordinated outfits into bags and chuckled. “How’s your packing going?”
“Umm…”
Yu Wei glanced around her living room. Two large suitcases lay open on the floor, already cluttered with tossed-in clothes, makeup bags, shoes, and scattered toiletries—all looking like a chaotic mess.
Still, with years of study-abroad experience, Yu Wei thought she’d done enough and happily replied, “Almost done!”
“Alright, see you tonight.”
They had dinner plans that evening—a small gathering with friends to unwind before the trip.
Yu Wei also invited Song Zhilin, who had just transferred to B City and was likely still settling in. She wanted to introduce her to more people—and, of course, to talk privately about Ji’s father’s situation.
Yu Wei had long heard that Song Zhilin had her eye on the Ji family corporation and had been tracking their financials.
6 PM.
Yu Wei pushed open Ji Fuyi’s door, calling out as she entered, “I’m here! We’ve got a bit of time before dinner—need help with anything? I’ve got years of packing experience…”
But as soon as she stepped into the living room, she fell silent.
Ji Fuyi’s suitcase lay open on the floor. One glance, and Yu Wei saw the impeccable organization—everything neatly packed into designated corners.
They both had two suitcases. Yu Wei had barely managed to stuff her clothes and daily items into hers, but Ji Fuyi had somehow packed four pairs of shoes—and made it look effortless.
Yu Wei turned and stammered, “You pack… so neatly…”
“Hmm?” Ji Fuyi glanced at her, then at her own suitcase, a little self-conscious.
“Ah, I just tossed it together, not as good as you study-abroad types.”
Yu Wei had studied abroad for years—surely packing was second nature to her. Why the sudden praise?
While Ji Fuyi wondered this, she noticed Yu Wei’s face slowly turning red.
Yu Wei mumbled, “Uh, I’m really not that neat…”
Not even close, really. Thinking of how she’d just thrown things in and forced her suitcase shut with all her strength, Yu Wei felt a bit embarrassed.
She couldn’t imagine what Ji Fuyi’s reaction would be when she saw her chaotic packing at the destination.
No way. She’d have to repack everything tonight.
There was no way she could let Ji Fuyi see her suitcase like that.
“It’s about time. Let’s head out,” Yu Wei said, glancing at the clock. “Yan Shu and the others love to be early. Since we planned this, we should get there first.”
The evening gathering was at a quiet lounge bar.
Yu Wei chose a private room on the second floor. As soon as they entered, she opened the windows to clear the slightly stuffy air.
“This place isn’t loud, and the band is great,” Yu Wei smiled at Ji Fuyi. “I’ll order you a non-alcoholic drink later.”
Ji Fuyi looked at her deeply. These past few days, she could clearly feel how thoughtful Yu Wei had been—considering her needs before she even mentioned them.
Honestly, it was hard not to feel touched.
It was just… she wasn’t used to someone treating her so well.
“Why are you looking at me like that? What, craving alcohol?” Yu Wei sprawled across the sofa, taking up space like a cat, eyes fixed on Ji Fuyi. “Not allowed. It’s bad for your body.”
“No,” Ji Fuyi glanced at her coolly, “I just think you’re really nice to me.”
“Of course I’m nice to you! Who else should I be nice to? You’re my wife, don’t you know?” Yu Wei lifted her chin shamelessly.
“Who’s your wife?” Ji Fuyi grabbed her hand with mock menace. “This is just a business marriage.”
Though her words were sharp, her body remained soft, snuggled beside Yu Wei. With one motion, Yu Wei pulled her into an embrace, whispering, “So what? Business marriage is still marriage.”
“Yes,” Ji Fuyi turned her head away. “But you don’t need to be so good to a business wife.”
“Tsundere,” Yu Wei patted her hand, unfazed. “I want to. What, you gonna stop me? I like spoiling my business wife. What are you gonna do? Hit me?”
“Oh?” Ji Fuyi raised a brow, playful. “Since you’ve basically taken over Lin Xia’s job, should I fire her and hire you?”
“Huh?” Yu Wei blinked, then quickly caught on and shot back, “I’m expensive, you know! It’s not worth hiring me as an assistant…”
“Why not?”
Ji Fuyi’s eyes narrowed like a cunning fox. She leaned in and wrapped her arms around Yu Wei’s shoulders, her scent cool and sweet.
“I’ve got plenty of money.”
Yu Wei was stunned.
Did she just hear what she thought she heard?
Ji Fuyi’s voice had a chilling edge, perfectly matching her cool fragrance. And yet…
Yu Wei’s heart began to race. For a moment, she felt like she couldn’t control herself. She looked into Ji Fuyi’s eyes—they were like deep oceans.
“Hiring you as an assistant?” Ji Fuyi pressed a finger to Yu Wei’s shoulder, eyes filled with challenge. “I could make you my little wifey if I wanted.”
Yu Wei’s mind went blank.
Images flooded her thoughts—clouds tinted pink by sunset, streams and deer in the forest, sailboats and seabirds on the ocean. Everything beautiful and tender in the world rushed at her like a tide, leaving her dizzy and breathless.
She already knew Ji Fuyi was different.
But every moment, every minute, every second, Ji Fuyi continued to stun her even more.
Staring into her eyes, Yu Wei whispered, “No way… you should be my little wifey.”
“Hm?” Ji Fuyi raised a brow. “You sure about that?”
“Totally,” Yu Wei grinned innocently. “You’re the little wifey carrying my baby, after all.”
