I Woke Up And Found Myself Married - Chapter 35
The private room fell silent in an instant.
Ji Fuyi turned her head away and didn’t say anything. Yu Wei couldn’t see her expression, but the hand she had placed on Ji Fuyi’s lower abdomen was gently grabbed by Ji Fuyi at the wrist.
Ji Fuyi’s fingers were slender, and under her fair skin, faint blue veins could be seen—there was a fragile kind of beauty to them. But now, with that hand gripping Yu Wei’s wrist, it carried a kind of warning.
“What nonsense are you talking about?” Ji Fuyi said softly, her voice tinged with a faint smile. “Getting bolder, huh?”
“Mm.”
Yu Wei actually smiled sweetly and nodded, looking quite pleased with herself.
“Anyway, it’s not like you’ll do anything to me.”
Ji Fuyi seemed to let out a light laugh—or maybe not.
The room fell silent again. No one spoke. Only the faint mingling scents of cold fragrance and mint lingered in the air, blending into something intoxicating.
Yu Wei looked up at the ceiling, where there were carved decorations—Baroque-style, intricate and layered—with soft lighting strips in the center. Some ornaments hung down, a mix of styles that, oddly enough, created a unique aesthetic.
Hmm. Nice interior design.
She sighed to herself silently.
They had arrived very early, and no one else had shown up yet. Only the waitstaff had come by twice—once to deliver a fruit platter, once to bring lemon water.
Looking out the window, they could see the band already seated on the stage downstairs, slowly tuning their instruments, occasionally strumming a few notes on the guitar.
“Hey, Fuyi.”
Yu Wei suddenly broke the silence in a light tone, but Ji Fuyi could tell from her scent that she was nervous—her pheromones had suddenly intensified.
“What is it?” Ji Fuyi asked calmly.
“Oh, nothing… I just had something I wanted to ask you.”
As she spoke, Yu Wei glanced sideways to gauge Ji Fuyi’s expression. She was sitting right next to her, gazing out the window, seemingly quite interested in the band getting ready.
“What is it?” Ji Fuyi finally turned to her. Her amber eyes were calm like a still lake—like she could see right through her.
“You’re nervous. Is it something important?”
“Haha, you caught me,” Yu Wei rubbed her nose, feeling slightly embarrassed. She thought she had hidden it well, but Ji Fuyi saw right through her. Then again, maybe it was a relief—no need to beat around the bush.
“I wanted to ask… what are your thoughts about your parents?”
Ji Fuyi’s gaze became more serious.
“What kind of thoughts?”
“I mean…” Yu Wei didn’t quite know how to phrase it. Was she really going to tell Ji Fuyi that she planned to give her parents a little punishment? How would Ji Fuyi take that?
“If something bad happened to them all of a sudden, would you be sad?”
Ji Fuyi narrowed her eyes and studied Yu Wei like she didn’t recognize her.
“What are you talking about?”
Under Ji Fuyi’s stare, Yu Wei felt a little guilty, but she continued:
“Like, if they went bankrupt or something. Would you be worried about them?”
Ji Fuyi quietly stared at her. She had already figured out what Yu Wei was thinking.
She wanted to stand up for her.
After seeing how her parents treated her—and after what happened on the red carpet when her father pushed her—Yu Wei couldn’t hold back anymore.
Ji Fuyi’s eyes curved into a smile, surprising Yu Wei and making her heart tighten.
Was Ji Fuyi still holding out hope that her parents would have a change of heart?
Admitting that your parents never really loved you was a hard thing to do…
“Why do you think I’d be sad?”
Ji Fuyi patted her shoulder lightly, her tone relaxed:
“The financial report hasn’t shown growth in three years. Last year, they started robbing Peter to pay Paul. This year alone, they’ve had six straight months of losses…”
“You don’t need to worry—they’re not far from bankruptcy.”
Yu Wei stared at her, stunned, unsure at first, but she was beginning to grasp what Ji Fuyi meant.
Why was Ji Fuyi suddenly bringing up the Ji Group’s financials?
“The new project in B City—the group will definitely try to get in on it. It’s their only shot after waiting five years. Only with this project will they have a slim chance of survival.”
Ji Fuyi spoke like she was talking about someone else. Her voice was calm.
“Too bad. Even if your father’s willing to invest, even if someone else provides the connections, once they get involved in this project, it’ll still be a bottomless pit. The Ji Group’s real estate projects by the sea may look glamorous, but they’ve actually been bleeding money for thirteen years. There are still a bunch of unfinished buildings.”
“The stock price has been falling for two straight months. The investors are losing patience—they’ve already lashed out at my dad a few times. The group can’t even ensure profit from its core businesses anymore. They’re counting on this project as a last resort. But it’s massive. Most companies in B City are just there to make up the numbers.”
“So here’s a suggestion—tell your dad to stay away from that mess.”
“Wait, hold on. I already told him that…” Yu Wei was getting confused by Ji Fuyi’s rapid-fire statements. “What are you saying?”
“Aren’t you trying to make news?”
Ji Fuyi looked at her with mock surprise.
“I’m giving you some material.”
Yu Wei stared at her in a daze.
What she had been considering had come true. A soft wave of delight spread through her chest. Ji Fuyi not only understood what she was thinking—she agreed with it.
“How do you know what I’m thinking!” Yu Wei threw her arms around her and gave her a big kiss on the cheek.
“It’s written all over your face—‘I want to get revenge on your parents, but I’m afraid you’ll be upset.’” Ji Fuyi glanced at her. “Don’t worry. Even if I owed them something, I’ve already repaid it these past years.”
Those sleepless nights, the times poverty chased her down, the pain of filming through injuries, the humiliation of reaching out again and again only to be rejected—Ji Fuyi felt she had paid her dues.
“The debt of birth has been settled.”
“Good, just worried you’d take it too hard.”
Yu Wei kissed her on the cheek again. Ji Fuyi silently pushed her hand away.
“Let go of me. What if they see us?”
“Let them see,” Yu Wei grinned, “We’re married, remember?”
Ji Fuyi: “…”
What could she even do about Yu Wei? Absolutely nothing.
Right on time, Yan Shu pushed open the door and shouted, “Happy newlyweds!!”
Xu Sihan followed behind her. When she saw Yu Wei holding Ji Fuyi in her arms, she looked away quietly and said softly, “Congratulations.”
Someone behind her nudged her forward into the room, and they shouted along with Yan Shu, “Happy newlyweds!!”
Yan Shu plopped down on one end of the couch, grabbed a piece of orange, and started munching as she glanced between Yu Wei and Ji Fuyi with a face full of gossip.
“Wow, you said you were just a fan,” Yan Shu tossed the orange peel in the trash, “But what is this? Married after only two months? I should go chase a celeb too!”
Yu Wei flashed a proud smile, revealing her pearly white teeth and sparkling eyes: “Jealous, huh?”
Ji Fuyi held her hand and said, “Actually, when I came to pick her up that time, we were already dating.”
As soon as she said that, Yan Shu dropped her sunflower seeds, and Yu Wei froze.
In that moment, Yu Wei wanted to scream.
Ji Fuyi said they had been dating back then!
She quickly kissed Ji Fuyi on the cheek, and seeing Ji Fuyi’s expression, she understood—Ji Fuyi was trying to cover up the fact that it was a contract marriage, so she just said they had been dating.
But so what?
Hearing her say that was…
Already worth it!
Yu Wei was still lost in her joy when Yan Shu started firing off questions.
“What? You were already dating then?! Fuyi, that’s shady! You kept it from me?!”
“No wonder when I said Weiwei was here, you showed up right away. Usually, we can’t get you out for anything! Turns out you were sneaking around dating her?”
“How’d you two meet? That cocktail party?”
“Yes, at that cocktail party,” Ji Fuyi nodded gently. “The next day, Weiwei invited me to dinner.”
She left out the part about the rainy night.
When Yu Wei heard that, she flashed Ji Fuyi a secret smile—one of those you know, I know, the world doesn’t need to know kind of smiles—and nodded hard.
“Married after just two months of dating? Isn’t that a bit fast?”
A soft voice rang out, and the lively atmosphere in the room instantly cooled. Everyone turned to the corner where Xu Sihan was standing, holding a glass of lemon water, her face full of gentle smiles.
“Don’t you want to date longer before getting married? They say after marriage it’s just the daily grind—oil, salt, rice, and chores. Will a big star like Fuyi really be able to adjust?”
“She never came to any of our family gatherings. Said she was allergic to the kitchen…”
Xu Sihan looked at Ji Fuyi, her gaze soft and gentle.
There was nothing inherently aggressive in her tone, but Ji Fuyi felt inexplicably uncomfortable.
Xu Sihan shook her head with a sigh.
“Fuyi was our little princess. I thought she’d have to date a bunch before settling down. Didn’t expect it to happen so quickly. Weiwei must be really impressive.”
Yu Wei felt like there was nothing wrong with what she said, but something about it still made her uneasy.
She looked Xu Sihan up and down—suddenly, she felt like she didn’t know her at all.
“Well, I used to think I’d have to date a bunch too,” Ji Fuyi looked at Xu Sihan and smiled sweetly, “But after meeting Weiwei, I realized one love is enough. She’s the one I’ve been looking for.”
“I feel really happy.”
Under the dim lights, she could see Xu Sihan’s lips twitching uncontrollably, the corners of her eyes drooping—as if something shocking had just hit her.
Ji Fuyi was nearly certain now.
This girl liked Yu Wei.
She narrowed her eyes, studying Xu Sihan closely.
Wasn’t this the quiet girl who always seemed to be around Yu Wei?
The one she used to think might be Yu Wei’s crush?
“Hahahahaha exactly! That’s because you’re in love with me!”
Yu Wei threw her arms around Ji Fuyi’s neck and beamed brightly.
“Look, whoever’s unhappy is just jealous! Y’all don’t even have girlfriends, let alone wives! Hahahaha I’m the only one in our group who’s no longer single!”
Yan Shu looked at her and slowly put down her sunflower seeds, feeling like an idiot.
Why was she here eating dog food*? Wasn’t the food at home good enough?
(*Note: “eating dog food” is slang for watching PDA as a single person.)
“Fuyi used to be your little princess~”
Yu Wei hugged Ji Fuyi’s neck, her heart and eyes full of her, smiling as she said:
“Now she’s my little princess and mine alone.”
