I Woke Up And Found Myself Married - Chapter 36
In the private room, everyone burst into teasing laughter at the scene.
Only Xu Sihan lowered her head in silence. For some reason, her heart ached with an unbearable sourness, like it had been soaked in dozens of lemons and wrung into tight knots.
It wasn’t like she had never envied Ji Fuyi.
She was beautiful, came from a good family, and was a famous celebrity. The moment she entered this social circle, she became the center of attention.
And Xu Sihan? She’d grown up with these people, but in the end, she was just “a classmate.”
She had liked Yu Wei for many years. When Yu Wei returned from abroad and started to get closer to her, Xu Sihan even took the initiative to help with Yu Wei’s work, thinking she might finally have a chance…
But now, Ji Fuyi and Yu Wei were married.
Xu Sihan couldn’t take it anymore. She fled the noisy private room like she was escaping, her tears falling uncontrollably.
Yu Wei watched her retreating figure and asked Gu Yan curiously, “What’s with her?”
Gu Yan was chewing on sunflower seeds, a hint of sympathy in her eyes.
“She’s probably just stressed out from being too busy lately.”
“Oh,” Yu Wei replied, then muttered, “She’s always seemed kind of strange.”
At that moment, Ji Fuyi was laughing and chatting with the group of friends. Everyone was still shocked over the sudden marriage announcement.
“Fuyi is always so busy with filming. I thought she wasn’t interested in marriage. It must be true love with Weiwei.”
“Yeah, I never really thought about it before,” Ji Fuyi smiled. Though she often socialized with these people, she always kept a polite distance. “It just happened, really.”
She stood up and left the room to get some fresh air.
The hallway was quiet. The soft glow of the wooden railings created a gentle ambiance. Ji Fuyi stood by the railing and looked down. The band had already started playing their first song.
The music was tender — a love song.
Ji Fuyi suddenly felt that this moment… wasn’t so bad.
She even found herself looking forward to their honeymoon on Summer Island.
She had already picked her next script and sent it to Yu Yiyi. Upon hearing that Ji Fuyi was willing to take the role, the production team immediately agreed to wait for her schedule and delay filming until next year.
Let this be a vacation, Ji Fuyi thought. She hadn’t truly rested in years.
Meanwhile, Xu Sihan had cried enough in the restroom, wiped away her tears, and was ready to return to the room.
As she walked down the hallway, she spotted Ji Fuyi.
Her emotions were a tangled mess.
Long ago, when she first heard that Ji Fuyi would attend their gathering, she had simply been excited. A celebrity appearing in their real life — that was thrilling for anyone.
Later, Ji Fuyi really came and became the center of attention in their group. The gaze Xu Sihan cast on her slowly shifted from admiration… to jealousy.
Seeing Ji Fuyi standing by the door getting air, she didn’t know whether to approach or not.
If she did, she might lose control and do something she’d regret.
If she didn’t… something just felt off.
After hesitating, Xu Sihan slowly made her way to the door and stood at the railing, not far from Ji Fuyi.
Ji Fuyi looked up and noticed her.
She smiled slightly and handed Xu Sihan a tissue.
“Your eye makeup’s smudged. You should touch it up.”
Her tone was calm. Then she walked back into the private room.
Xu Sihan stood frozen, holding that tissue in her hand. Ji Fuyi had clearly seen that she had cried.
Maybe she had even realized Xu Sihan liked Yu Wei.
But she didn’t say anything — just gave her a tissue and reminded her to fix her makeup.
As if… she didn’t see her as a threat at all.
Something cracked again in Xu Sihan’s heart. She clenched the tissue tightly, her teeth aching from the cold.
Fine. So be it. Everyone just treated her like she was invisible.
Xu Sihan stared at the door to the private room, picturing Ji Fuyi’s graceful figure, and bit her lip hard.
That exhibition project Yu Wei had — she was definitely going to follow up on it.
Inside the room, the atmosphere had become lively again.
Yu Wei glanced at the clock and mumbled, “Why isn’t she here yet?”
“Who isn’t here?” Gu Yan asked curiously. She had clearly had quite a bit to drink, still holding a glass, and her gaze was a little unfocused. “Didn’t Fuyi already come back? Look, she’s right there.”
“Of course I know she’s here,” Yu Wei looked at Ji Fuyi’s silhouette. She was sitting on the sofa near the window, gazing down at the band, showing off her beautiful side profile. Her golden hair cascaded down her neck, exuding an irresistible charm. “My wife is so gorgeous.”
Gu Yan shot her a sideways look and muttered, “Everyone knows Fuyi’s pretty. I mean, who else isn’t here yet?”
“Oh, I invited one of my senior classmates to the party today,” Yu Wei opened her social feed and tapped on a photo, showing it to Gu Yan. “She’s in media too, just like you. Also into A-A relationships.”
The moment Gu Yan saw the photo, her smile froze.
“Heh… is that so?”
Yu Wei nodded and seriously started explaining more about Song Zhilin.
But Gu Yan didn’t register a single word.
No one in this room knew more about Song Zhilin than she did.
That woman… was her ex.
Her first love.
Back in high school, she had dated Song Zhilin in secret.
At that time, an Alpha dating another Alpha was still seen as scandalous. They didn’t want to deal with nosy questions, so they mutually agreed to keep it quiet.
No one ever knew who Gu Yan’s mysterious girlfriend was. They had planned to announce it once they were both in college — older and more secure.
But right after graduation, Song Zhilin disappeared without a word.
Gu Yan called, texted, even wrote letters to be delivered to Country A through friends — nothing.
She was gone. So naturally, Gu Yan never told anyone who her first love was.
It was too humiliating.
Water under the bridge. She never imagined she’d see Song Zhilin again.
Wasn’t she supposed to be living her best life in Country A by now — with some sweet, soft Omega?
“Shushu, are you okay?”
Yu Wei waved her hand in front of her face, concerned.
“Did you drink too much?”
“Huh?”
Gu Yan snapped out of it and forced a smile.
“What made you think of inviting her?”
“She just got back to B City and doesn’t know many people. I thought I’d bring her to hang out.”
Yu Wei leaned against Ji Fuyi, clutching her hand like a clingy koala.
“She really looked after me back when I first arrived in Country A. I didn’t know anything — she helped me with enrollment and everything. Since she helped me back then, of course I should return the favor now.”
It made sense. Mutual support — that was just being decent.
“And she’s doing great in media now, right, Fuyi?”
Ji Fuyi nodded.
“Mm. She’s involved in quite a few big-name projects recently.”
“We’ve got a lot of people in media here — or connected to it at least,” Yu Wei added. “It’s good to build networks. Makes collaboration easier.”
That’s just how careers work — overlapping layers of people, building networks of contacts.
Though this group came together mostly from shared interests, they wouldn’t hesitate to support each other professionally either.
Gu Yan could only nod. There was nothing to refute. Many of the people at this party were here for exactly that — to see if they clicked, and if not, they’d move on.
Gu Yan stood up and said quietly,
“I’m going out to get some air.”
She walked out without looking back, thinking to herself: I’ll stall as long as I can. Hopefully, she’ll be gone by the time I return.
Watching her leave, Yu Wei frowned.
“What’s with everyone stepping out for air today?”
She leaned into Ji Fuyi’s hair and softly asked, “Do you feel stuffy? Maybe the room’s too stuffy?”
Ji Fuyi shook her head.
“No, I’m fine.”
Yu Wei looked worried, studying her expression closely.
“If you feel unwell, we can go home early.”
“I’m really okay,” Ji Fuyi’s gaze softened. Yu Wei’s concern always brought her a quiet warmth. “It’s a rare chance for everyone to gather. No need to worry about me.”
“Of course I have to worry! You’re my little princess!” Yu Wei said righteously, with no trace of restraint. “Of course I’ll put you first. Are you sure you’re feeling okay?”
“I’m sure. It’s not stuffy in here,” Ji Fuyi said thoughtfully, eyes drifting toward the door. “She just doesn’t seem to want to see Miss Song.”
“Huh? I didn’t know they knew each other.”
Yu Wei looked a bit flustered.
“If they don’t get along, that’s going to be a problem.”
“How much of a problem?” Ji Fuyi didn’t seem bothered.
“If they don’t mesh, then don’t interact. You’re just introducing friends. It’s no big deal.”
But Yu Wei felt a pang of anxiety. Inviting Song Zhilin wasn’t just about introducing friends.
She wanted to show goodwill, to prove she’d matured — that she wasn’t just a junior who needed help anymore, but someone who could work alongside her. For Yu Wei’s career, this was a big deal.
After graduation, Song Zhilin wasn’t just her senior anymore. She was someone with access to major resources.
This party was both a reunion… and a strategic opportunity.
Just then, the door opened and Song Zhilin walked in, smiling as she greeted them.
“Sorry I’m late, I had to work overtime today.”
“This must be Miss Song?” someone in the room asked.
“Yes, Song Zhilin — my senior. Just came back from Country A,” Yu Wei introduced. “She works in media.”
Song Zhilin was clearly experienced in these kinds of settings. A few rounds of small talk and she was already deep in conversation.
Yu Wei finally relaxed a little. Ji Fuyi patted her hand and whispered,
“No need to worry too much.”
Just then, the door opened again.
Gu Yan stepped inside — and locked eyes with Song Zhilin.
In that instant, her entire body froze. Every cell in her body screamed the same thing:
Leave this room. Now.
But it was too late.
Song Zhilin had already seen her.
Her gaze was icy — like frozen glass from the Arctic — and when it landed on Gu Yan, it felt like she was plunged into freezing water.
In a calm, emotionless voice, Song Zhilin said:
“What are you doing here?”
