I Woke Up And Found Myself Married - Chapter 39
Her voice was soft—like a feather, a drop of water, or something else entirely—landing gently on Yu Wei’s ear, making it feel a little ticklish.
“It’s… it’s fine,” Yu Wei felt her face turning red. She reopened the movie screen, the noise from the film covering up the slight tremble in her voice. “It’s just an estrus period.”
“Not your first time?”
Ji Fuyi studied her. Her golden hair slid off her shoulder and into Yu Wei’s palm.
Even just that strand of hair made Yu Wei’s heart jolt.
She could feel the hair brushing lightly across her palm—slightly ticklish, with a peculiar scent.
“It is my first,” Yu Wei whispered. “First estrus. I don’t even know what to do.”
Ji Fuyi fell silent.
The only sound in the cabin was the clamor from the movie screen—clashing and clanging, the plot completely forgotten.
Yu Wei’s thoughts had left the film behind the moment Ji Fuyi woke up. From then on, her full attention had been on Ji Fuyi. Even though Ji Fuyi said nothing, just gazed at her, the air between them felt unstable—charged with something that made it hard to stay calm.
Was it Ji Fuyi’s scent? Like a tropical fruit turning from green to red, exuding a fully ripened aroma.
After a long pause, Ji Fuyi asked uncertainly, “Kissing me… does it help?”
Yu Wei hesitated, then nodded.
That kiss was more effective than any placebo. The swirling emotions in her chest had quieted almost instantly.
She was soothed by Ji Fuyi’s kiss.
Without a word, Ji Fuyi lifted the armrest between their seats and leaned against Yu Wei.
The weight on her shoulder made Yu Wei stiffen. She breathed carefully, terrified that Ji Fuyi would notice her abnormal reaction.
With Ji Fuyi leaning on her like this, her heartbeat only got faster.
The cabin was cold—Yu Wei knew that. But she still felt hot.
Her palms were damp, her fingertips seemed to burn with invisible flames.
Ji Fuyi wasn’t entirely at ease either.
Though nothing showed on her face, the increasingly intense mint scent in the air made her breathing quicken.
She pulled one of the blankets away, leaving only a light one draped over her knees. Leaning on Yu Wei’s shoulder, she placed one hand on Yu Wei’s knee and whispered, “I’m going to sleep.”
“Oh, okay.”
Yu Wei nodded, eyes glued to the screen, unwilling to let Ji Fuyi see the red in her cheeks. “Get some rest. Still a few hours to go.”
“Mm. It’s easier to sleep through the flight,” Ji Fuyi noticed Yu Wei didn’t move, so she reached out and placed her hand into Yu Wei’s palm. “You sleep too.”
She closed her eyes and quickly drifted off again.
Yu Wei stared at her sleeping face. Her breathing was soft and even, her lips dried out from the cabin air, now a sweet shade of pink rather than their usual flush. Her long eyelashes cast shadows on her cheeks.
“Sis…”
Yu Wei couldn’t help leaning over to kiss the curve of her ear and murmured,
“You’re really… beautiful.”
And seductive.
That part she kept to herself, not daring to say it aloud, afraid Ji Fuyi would think she was being frivolous.
Ji Fuyi’s hand rested in her palm, slightly cool to the touch. Her fingers were slender and curled around Yu Wei’s pinky.
Yu Wei held that hand just as she had imagined—feeling so much calmer simply by doing so.
The movie was dull, and the tedious plot finally lulled Yu Wei to sleep.
Holding Ji Fuyi’s hand, the two of them leaning against each other—it felt like owning the entire universe.
…
Summer Island.
The moment Ji Fuyi stepped out of the cabin, even just at the jet bridge, she was hit by a wave of heat.
“So hot… is it because it’s noon?”
Yu Wei followed behind, dragging her suitcase, frowning and muttering, “I know it’s tropical, but this is too much. Maybe it’ll be better by the beach? This kind of weather is unbearable.”
“Don’t worry,” the flight attendant accompanying them explained kindly, “the seaside at Summer Island is breezy and perfect for vacationing.”
In the car heading to the hotel, Ji Fuyi looked out the window.
Summer Island had been a tourist spot for years but still preserved some of its natural charm. Tall coconut trees lined both sides of the road, their thick green leaves drooping from high branches, offering a hint of coolness against the heat.
The driver was a local from the island who had worked at a wellness center for over a decade. Dressed in a floral shirt, he was full of cheer.
“Here for your honeymoon, ladies? You’ve picked the right place—blue seas, white sands, palm trees, fireworks. Perfect for a romantic getaway. Enjoy yourselves!”
Yu Wei responded half-heartedly, “Thanks.”
The car’s air conditioning was set to high, sending waves of cool air, but Yu Wei didn’t feel any relief.
The sunlight outside felt almost tangible, piercing through the glass and heating her skin with a persistent warmth.
Her eyes wandered to Ji Fuyi, who was still gazing out the window.
She was wearing a spaghetti strap dress, her golden hair tied up, revealing a long, fair neck. Yu Wei’s gaze followed the curve of her neck to the mark there—reddened slightly, likely from reacting to something.
The mint scent in the enclosed space intensified.
Ji Fuyi turned to look at her, mouthing silently:
“Pheromones.”
Yu Wei blinked, aggrieved. She really couldn’t help it. Maybe it was because her estrus period had intensified her scent—it didn’t feel any different to her, but Ji Fuyi clearly picked up on the change.
She mimicked Ji Fuyi’s silent gesture and mouthed:
“Can’t control it.”
Ji Fuyi, seeing that helpless little face, suddenly smiled.
Yu Wei looked just like a little kitten with drooping ears, having tucked away her claws. Her eyes were slightly red as she looked at Ji Fuyi, clearly confused and unsure of what to do.
Just a little cat who trusted her wholeheartedly.
Ji Fuyi crooked a finger at her.
Yu Wei’s brain buzzed. One thought filled her mind:
Can’t take it anymore.
She grabbed Ji Fuyi’s wrist and gently bit it.
Ji Fuyi raised an eyebrow and pressed a finger to Yu Wei’s lips.
Then, a soft kiss landed on Yu Wei’s cheek.
Ji Fuyi returned to watching the scenery outside while Yu Wei stared blankly at her.
The driver, being a Beta, couldn’t smell the pheromones at all and continued cheerfully chatting about Summer Island.
As the car turned a corner, he said:
“The hotel is just ahead—one of the best on the island. It’s got everything you’ll need. Enjoy your stay!”
After checking in, the two entered their suite, led by a hotel staff member.
It was a spacious suite with two bedrooms and a living room, all connected for easy access.
The decor reflected the island’s vibe—green plants everywhere, wooden tables and chairs on the balcony.
From the floor-to-ceiling windows, they could see the blue ocean and white sands below.
Colorful umbrellas dotted the beach, with people sprawled on picnic mats, enjoying the summer sun.
Yu Wei pulled the curtains open and sighed at the sight.
“Finally, we can rest!”
“You seem exhausted,” Ji Fuyi sat on the couch and casually picked up a travel brochure. “Something bothering you?”
“No.”
Yu Wei plopped down beside her and sprawled out. “Just didn’t expect the wedding to be so exhausting.”
“Didn’t expect it?”
Ji Fuyi had anticipated it. Their wedding was the culmination of both families’ expectations, signaling a powerful alliance and strategic gains. It could never be a simple, blissful affair like an ordinary couple’s.
“I thought you were mentally prepared.”
“I was, really,” Yu Wei groaned, stretching her limbs. “Just didn’t expect that many annoying relatives… ugh, people we haven’t seen in centuries acting like they know everything—anyway, forget it. We’re here to relax!”
“Mm.”
Ji Fuyi nodded and picked up a piece of fruit, smiling. “If we’re on vacation, then let’s rest. You want a nap?”
“Sure. If you’re tired, take a nap too. We can get foot massages later and walk on the beach in the evening.”
Yu Wei turned on the air conditioner in both rooms and glanced around.
“Which room do you want?”
Ji Fuyi silently looked at her—until she realized Yu Wei was genuinely asking her to choose.
Dragging her suitcase into the left bedroom, she said:
“You’re quite the gentleman.”
“Of course! Gotta let you choose first. It’s only fair,” Yu Wei grinned and dragged her own suitcase into the right room. “Want me to wake you up later?”
Ji Fuyi’s voice came from the other room: “Either way.”
“Okay! I’ll come wake you up!”
Yu Wei took a quick shower, changed into pajamas, and laid down on the soft bed, hoping to fall asleep quickly.
Strangely, even though she was thoroughly exhausted after the long flight, she couldn’t fall asleep.
She tossed and turned in bed.
That same restlessness was clinging to her chest, impossible to describe.
Estrus made Alphas especially sensitive—even the sensation of sheets brushing against skin made her feel hot.
Yu Wei had turned the aircon down to the lowest setting, but it didn’t help.
Her knees shifted slightly against the sheet, and a strange tingling sensation shot up from her ankles to the back of her ears—evoking certain memories.
Memories of that soft body in her arms…
Ji Fuyi’s face appeared before her eyes, unbidden. Everything that had happened since they met flashed across her mind. Yu Wei groaned inwardly.
Is estrus always this difficult?
Then Ji Fuyi’s voice echoed in her ears.
“You’re quite the gentleman.”
Wait a minute… something felt off.
Yu Wei bolted upright in bed.
Had she misunderstood Ji Fuyi’s meaning?
A few minutes later, she pushed open Ji Fuyi’s bedroom door.
Ji Fuyi was leaning against the headboard, reading a travel magazine.
“What is it?” she asked without even looking up, her voice calm.
“Sis…”
Yu Wei clutched her pillow and said in a small voice:
“Can I sleep with you?”
