I Woke Up And Found Myself Married - Chapter 47
Ji Fuyi gently held her hand, smiling faintly as she said:
“Of course I didn’t know.”
Yu Wei’s breath caught. Her canine teeth grazed that mark with reluctant affection before she lifted her head, slightly breathless, gazing at Ji Fuyi and whispering near her ear:
“Does big sister really not know?”
“Of course not.”
Ji Fuyi pried Yu Wei’s hand off her body, her fingers lightly brushing across the back of Yu Wei’s hand, her eyes filled with laughter.
“Aren’t you going to collect seashells?”
“I’m going right now!”
Yu Wei grabbed her small bucket from the ground and turned, leaving Ji Fuyi with her back.
Ji Fuyi lay back on the sun lounger and watched as Yu Wei carried her bucket to crouch beneath a coconut tree, scooping the sand enthusiastically with her little spade. She couldn’t help but smile.
Surrounded by little kids doing the same thing, Yu Wei mimicked their digging moves exactly.
She really did have a childlike heart. Alone, she played with sand and collected shells with giddy enjoyment.
Ji Fuyi couldn’t help imagining: if they had a child, would Yu Wei play with her the same way on future vacations?
The image of a tall and small figure in matching shirts, each carrying a little bucket, digging under a palm tree with tiny shovels appeared vividly in her mind.
Yu Wei was still digging seriously beneath the tree, and in Ji Fuyi’s imagination, a chubby little girl clung to Yu Wei’s shirt, asking endless questions and occasionally shoveling sand onto Yu Wei’s foot.
“Did you find any seashells, Weiwei?”
Ji Fuyi got up from the lounger, put on her sunhat, and walked over to her.
Yu Wei had already gathered a thin layer of shells in her bucket. Hearing Ji Fuyi’s voice, she immediately tossed her spade into the bucket and stood up to face her.
“I found some! I’ll make you a seashell necklace later.”
Yu Wei looked Ji Fuyi up and down. The shells she’d picked had a lovely variety of colors and would match Ji Fuyi’s outfit perfectly. She couldn’t help but smile.
“Bored of waiting? Want to check out that stall and grab some coconut juice?”
“Sure,” Ji Fuyi replied casually. “Let’s go have a look at the sea, too.”
Yu Wei nodded, carrying her little bucket in one hand and holding Ji Fuyi’s hand with the other, her heart full of the joy of a fruitful day.
The sea breeze blew softly across Yu Wei’s face, lifting Ji Fuyi’s skirt slightly. The wind was moist, scented with the sea. The sand beneath their feet was soft, and the dazzling sunlight reflected off the white grains.
The coconut trees rustled gently nearby, and every face on the beach wore a look of peace and contentment.
Yu Wei even began to hum a little tune, feeling that life couldn’t get any better than this.
“So happy?” Ji Fuyi asked.
“Of course! I’m holding hands with my little wifey and carrying my little shells,” Yu Wei beamed with the joy of a farmer enjoying a good harvest. “I feel like I’m the coolest kid on this street!”
“What nonsense,” Ji Fuyi snatched the bucket from her hands. “Those are my shells now. And who’s your little wifey?”
“You are, you are, you are! You’re my little wifey. You took my seashells, so you’re mine now. How can you not know that? Taking someone’s shells and not being their wifey—shameless,” Yu Wei teased, almost leaning fully onto her.
“I was going to give it to you tonight, but are you really that eager, sis?”
“Who’s eager?” Ji Fuyi shoved the bucket back into Yu Wei’s hands. “And who’s your little wifey, huh?”
Yu Wei didn’t say a word—she just carried her bucket and smiled all the way back.
At first, Ji Fuyi pretended to be unfazed, but when Yu Wei’s laughter grew louder and more arrogant, she couldn’t help but give her a playful smack on the back.
“What are you so smug about?”
“Why are you touching me!” Yu Wei shrieked, her grin filled with mischief.
“I didn’t touch you!”
Ever since arriving on Summer Island, Ji Fuyi felt like her age had dropped by several years thanks to Yu Wei. Every day was filled with silly, meaningless conversations like this.
What was scary was that she kind of liked it.
It was light. Free. Happy.
A feeling she hadn’t had in a very, very long time.
“How can that not count as touching?” Yu Wei leaned forward playfully and showed her back. “You touched my skin! That’s totally touching!”
Ji Fuyi laughed. “You’re being unreasonable.”
“What’s the point of being reasonable? Are you thinking one touch is too little? That it’s unfair?”
Yu Wei grabbed her hand again, smiled sweetly, and rolled her eyes playfully.
“How about… you touch me a few more times?”
“Oh, I wouldn’t dare,” Ji Fuyi chuckled. “If just one touch is already too much, more would be criminal.”
“What are you afraid of?”
Yu Wei’s voice lowered, laced with a teasing tone.
“When you were helping me apply sunscreen, you didn’t seem so shy.”
“What about it?” Ji Fuyi looked confused. “If I didn’t lift your shirt, I couldn’t get your back—then you’d get sunburned.”
“Oh~ I remember. Didn’t you say at the time, there’s no part of me you haven’t touched?”
Yu Wei gave her a sidelong glance and lifted her chin smugly.
“Exactly. You’ve touched every part of me. You have to take responsibility. You married me—no take-backs.”
In the gentle sea breeze, Ji Fuyi tucked her hair behind her ear, revealing a beautifully shaped earlobe.
“No one’s taking it back.”
Yu Wei stopped in her tracks.
Ji Fuyi walked a few more steps before noticing she wasn’t following. She turned back and asked, “What’s wrong?”
Yu Wei lifted her phone and said, “Nothing. I just took a picture of you.”
“Let me see.”
She took the phone. On the screen was a photo.
She stood in the sea breeze, her golden hair lifted into a graceful arc as she tucked it behind her ear. Her ear looked almost translucent under the sun, and her profile was stunning. The wind raised the hem of her skirt, revealing a porcelain-smooth leg and a delicate ankle tied with a bow.
Behind her, the sand and sea shimmered with a soft golden hue. The horizon stretched endlessly to where the sea met the sky.
Ji Fuyi stared at the photo. She had been photographed countless times by top-tier photographers, in fashion shoots and editorials. But never had any photo felt so tender.
Yu Wei stood beside her, hands behind her back, peering at the screen with a grin.
“Nice, right?”
“It’s beautiful.”
Ji Fuyi handed the phone back, her heart soft.
“Send it to me.”
“Sure!” Yu Wei tapped a few times and said, “Sent!”
Ji Fuyi opened WeChat. The photo was already there. She saved it and didn’t say much else.
They reached a coconut juice stand where the vendor—a friendly uncle—greeted them while holding a knife and a coconut.
“How many do you want?”
Yu Wei, in a great mood, held up one finger. “Just one.”
“You’re not drinking?” Ji Fuyi asked.
“I want mangoes,” Yu Wei pointed at the neighboring fruit stand. “Let’s get mangoes later.”
Ji Fuyi nodded and took the coconut the vendor passed her. She inserted a straw and took a sip. The sweet, refreshing taste spread from her tongue to her chest.
Yu Wei stood at the mango stand, watching the lady weigh the fruit. She reached out to Ji Fuyi.
“I want coconut juice.”
“I thought you weren’t drinking?”
“I’m not drinking a whole one, just want a taste.”
Yu Wei took a sip of the juice and winked.
“Sharing a coconut with someone you like makes it even sweeter. Haven’t you ever been in love?”
Now she was even calling Ji Fuyi unromantic.
Ji Fuyi, expressionless, took the coconut back.
“Nope.”
“What?!”
Yu Wei looked like her jaw might fall off—she even forgot to take her mangoes.
Her guess had finally been confirmed: Ji Fuyi really had never dated anyone.
No wonder she was so unromantic.
Yu Wei grinned, picked up her bag of mangoes, and used a toothpick to eat one slice after another. She held one piece out toward Ji Fuyi.
“Here, try some mango.”
“No,” Ji Fuyi turned away. “I’m not dating you.”
“Okay, okay. You’re not dating me—you just married me.”
Yu Wei insisted, pushing the mango closer to her lips.
“And you only like me two ‘Little Cups’ worth.”
Ji Fuyi remembered what Yu Wei said yesterday—that her affection was measured in bubble tea sizes, with “A Little Cup” being the unit. She immediately sped up, like she didn’t want to play anymore.
“Not eating your mango.”
“Just one bite! It’s really sweet, I promise,” Yu Wei chased behind, blinking. “Didn’t you say you like mangoes?”
Ji Fuyi nodded and proudly held up her own little bag of mangoes.
“I do. That’s why I bought my own.”
Yu Wei trailed after her, staring at the bag. Is this what elementary schoolers did when they fought—refuse to share and declare “I’m not playing with you anymore”?
Back on their loungers, Ji Fuyi placed the coconut on the side table and put on her sunglasses, lounging back leisurely.
Yu Wei reached out, grabbed the coconut, and sipped it.
“Mmm, so sweet.”
“Stay away from my coconut,” Ji Fuyi said, reaching out to take it back. “Or you’re not getting in my bed tonight.”
“Oh no! I’ll stay away from your coconut right away.”
Yu Wei returned the coconut to the table—but in her heart, she was overjoyed. Clearly, there was still hope. Ji Fuyi still expected her to sleep in her bed tonight.
“Then can I stay close to you?”
She lowered her chin gently into Ji Fuyi’s palm.
Ji Fuyi stared at her in a daze, unsure of what to do.
Yu Wei looked up with bright eyes, her cherry-colored lips parted slightly. Her chin was a little sharp, poking Ji Fuyi’s palm, but her skin was so soft and slightly sticky from the summer heat, gently rubbing against her hand.
Her palm tingled—and so did her heart.
This version of Yu Wei was… kind of adorable.
Ji Fuyi couldn’t explain what she felt—just that her heart fluttered.
Yu Wei noticed she didn’t react and wondered if she’d pushed too far again. But Ji Fuyi didn’t look upset… more like stunned?
Yu Wei lifted her face slightly and tested the waters with a soft call: “Jiejie?”
Ji Fuyi came back to herself and looked down at her.
“Hmm?”
Yu Wei’s eyes were a beautiful amber—deeper and lovelier than the sea.
Then, as if by some strange impulse, Ji Fuyi cupped her face and kissed her lips.
They tasted sweet.
Like cherry jelly.
Sweet, soft—just like Yu Wei.
