I Woke Up And Found Myself Married - Chapter 55
“I’ve always been an A.”
Ji Fuyi gave her a light glance, chin slightly raised, her gaze carrying a hint of teasing.
“What kind of misunderstanding do you have about me?”
“That’s right, Fuyi has always been an A. Back when she first debuted, we all thought she’d definitely differentiate into an A,” Lin Xia nodded enthusiastically, eyes sparkling. “Fuyi is super A. Every year she tops the ‘Ultimate A Rankings.’ Always number one!”
Yu Wei: “?”
Ultimate A Rankings? What the heck is that?
When Ji Fuyi heard that, she actually looked a little awkward. Tilting her head slightly like she didn’t want to recall something, she shot Lin Xia a look that said, Stop talking.
Unfortunately, Lin Xia completely missed the signal.
On-screen, Lin Xia eagerly scrolled through her tablet, head down while digging up information, cheerfully adding:
“Miss Yu, you don’t know about it? It’s a super popular ranking—anyone can be nominated, celebrities and ordinary folks alike. Our Fuyi gets nominated every year, and she always wins. Not even movie kings or heartthrobs can beat her.”
Yu Wei: “?”
She gave Ji Fuyi a disbelieving look. No matter how she looked at it, Ji Fuyi totally seemed like an O!
With that sweet fruity scent lingering around her, a lazy smile on her face, curled up on the sofa like a sleepy kitten, golden hair cascading over her shoulders…
This kind of person—ranked first every year in some Ultimate A Rankings?!
Even if she didn’t know what that ranking really was, it just sounded ridiculous!
“Hey, even if our Fuyi had differentiated into an O, she’d still be the most A O out there!”
Lin Xia concluded with full conviction, then picked up a pile of documents and said:
“I’m heading back to work now. The public sentiment’s already under control, and we’ll make sure to spin this into something positive.”
Ji Fuyi nodded and closed the video.
At that moment, Yu Wei was still staring into space, still reeling from everything Lin Xia had just said.
Seeing her like this, Ji Fuyi couldn’t help but laugh.
She poked Yu Wei on the shoulder and said:
“What? Still can’t wrap your head around it?”
“Exactly. I really can’t.”
Yu Wei nodded sincerely, then said with frustration:
“Why does everyone think you’re an A? You clearly… clearly just seem so sweet!”
She got stuck on that word “clearly” for a bit, her cheeks turning a little pink before finally blurting out that one sentence.
Ji Fuyi couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
“You’re laughing again!” Yu Wei was annoyed and raised her hand to hit her—but even jokingly, she couldn’t bring herself to do it. “You’re not allowed to laugh!”
“Alright, alright, I won’t laugh.”
Ji Fuyi wiped the smile off her face, set down the tablet, picked up a cushion, and looked at Yu Wei with a composed expression.
“But just think about that whole conversation—who’s really the A here, you or me?”
Her tone was clearly teasing, the corner of her lips curling up in a smile that was both indulgent and provocative.
Just that one look made Yu Wei feel like… she couldn’t take it anymore.
Without thinking, she grabbed Ji Fuyi’s chin and kissed her fiercely.
Only when Ji Fuyi’s breathing was erratic and her voice took on a soft, sultry edge did Yu Wei finally let go of her chin and chuckle:
“Obviously, I’m the A.”
…
By evening, the sun was dipping below the horizon, dyeing the deep-blue sea in a warm golden hue.
Clouds swirled across the sky, tinged crimson by the sunset. Half the sky burned in shades of fire, the waves shimmering gently in the golden light as they rolled onto the shore.
Yu Wei stretched lazily and said, “So tired. Feels like I’ve been working all day.”
“You have been working all day,” Ji Fuyi replied, still looking at her tablet. “I’m about done on my end. Lin Xia said everything’s cleared up now. Nothing left to worry about.”
“Oh?” Yu Wei looked up, her gaze turning a little cold. “I looked into something this afternoon.”
Ji Fuyi heard her tone and guessed it might be about those leaked WeChat screenshots. She asked, “Did you find out who leaked them?”
“Pretty much,” Yu Wei visibly relaxed when she heard the question. She jumped down from her desk, ran over, and kissed Ji Fuyi on the cheek before saying, “You’re so smart!”
Ji Fuyi: “…”
She probably just wanted an excuse to kiss her.
But seeing how cheerful Yu Wei was, Ji Fuyi didn’t say anything. She just gently patted the back of her hand.
“How did you find out?” she asked.
Her agency was one of the biggest media companies in the country, and their tech department was full of top-tier talent. Even they hadn’t been able to trace the source, and Yu Wei managed to?
Yu Wei raised a stack of printed documents. “I actually have your tech team to thank.”
“Oh?” Ji Fuyi looked puzzled. Didn’t their investigation hit a dead end?
Yu Wei gave a sly smile. “Remember that report your team issued? It mentioned the IP address of the anonymous Weibo account. Said the person used a ton of proxies and bounced around like crazy, eventually disappearing without a trace?”
“Yeah.” Ji Fuyi nodded. That part was true.
“Well,” Yu Wei laid the papers out in front of her, “one of the proxy hops used an IP in Africa.”
“Most people wouldn’t use an African IP, right? And the spot they routed through—somewhere with barely any infrastructure. There might not even be a signal tower.”
Ji Fuyi recalled something the tech team had said and agreed, “Right, they said it was a spoofed address.”
“I had a friend who helped me set up a VPN for uploading large files for my art projects.”
Yu Wei’s tone dimmed a bit.
“Since I studied art, my project files were always huge. Most regular VPNs couldn’t handle it, so this friend built me a really solid setup. He used all kinds of virtual addresses, including ones in Africa. Said they were faster that way.”
Ji Fuyi didn’t say anything, just quietly listened.
She had a gut feeling—her hunch might be right.
“This friend was introduced by Xu Sihan,” Yu Wei said, now sitting cross-legged on the couch, fiddling with her hands. “But of course, this isn’t enough to prove she leaked the screenshots. Besides, they didn’t start on Weibo—they first showed up in a gossip group.”
“But just now, I asked that tech friend of mine—he said Xu Sihan had recently contacted him.”
“Said she wanted to see an exhibition and needed a VPN.”
“I told him I wanted access too, and he sent me the same setup. I looked at the routing—it matched the one your tech team traced.”
“That Weibo account… it was probably her.”
“Yan Shu also helped me ask some gossip group admins. They said the screenshots came from a brand-new group member. And Xu Sihan’s never cared about gossip before.”
Ji Fuyi quietly listened, not interrupting.
Yu Wei looked a little down after she finished speaking. “I really think it was her.”
“I see…”
Ji Fuyi sighed softly, wrapped an arm around Yu Wei’s shoulders, and gently patted her back.
“Then what about the person who leaked your private info? Was that her too?”
“No, that one was just some random who found it themselves.”
Yu Wei shook her head. “But leaking my WeChat screenshots—that’s already crossing a line.”
“She’s known you for years. You’re a public figure. She knows your private posts shouldn’t be shared, but she still did it.”
“Xu Sihan was my high school classmate. We’ve known each other for years. When I first came back and wanted to hold an exhibition, she and Yan Shu helped me out a lot. I never thought she’d do something like this…”
Ji Fuyi gently stroked her hair, trying to offer some comfort. In a soft voice, she said:
“There might’ve been some things you didn’t notice.”
“What things…”
Yu Wei looked up in confusion, her eyes filled with uncertainty.
“I always thought she was a good person. But now, this… it feels like being betrayed by a friend.”
“I know it sounds childish, but I really do feel a little hurt.”
Ji Fuyi saw the bewildered look in her eyes, sighed, and took out her phone. She dialed Yan Shu’s number.
“I’ll let ShuShu explain,” she said.
Some things, coming from her, would sound biased.
Like she was just jealous.
Once the call connected, they heard Yan Shu’s cheerful voice: “What’s up! Fuyi! Calling me on vacation?”
“Uh, it’s me,” Yu Wei said.
“Huh? Oh—it’s you, Weiwei.” Yan Shu’s tone instantly flattened. “What is it?”
Before Yu Wei could answer, Yan Shu muttered, “What did I do to deserve this dog food first thing in the morning…”
Yu Wei coughed to gloss over it and finally said:
“About the leaked WeChat screenshots—I know who did it.”
“Who?”
Yan Shu sounded interested.
“When you asked me to check the gossip groups, I already suspected something.”
“Xu Sihan.”
Yu Wei said flatly, “It was her.”
“Holy crap!”
Yan Shu blurted out, voice rising in shock. “She’s crazy! Who the hell leaks someone’s private posts?!”
Yu Wei added, “Yeah. I had Lao A trace the IP path—it was hers.”
Yan Shu tsked a few times before saying:
“What kind of person does something like that to the person they like?”
“…Huh?”
Yu Wei froze. What do you mean—like?
“Oh, right, I forgot you didn’t know. Xu Sihan’s been crushing on you for years.”
Yan Shu said casually, “Everyone knew—except you, apparently.”
Yu Wei sat there like she’d been struck by lightning.
Back in high school, Xu Sihan always acted awkward around her. Sometimes during lunch, she refused to sit next to her. Whenever they talked, she looked startled and barely responded.
Yu Wei always thought Xu Sihan… disliked her?
It wasn’t until she returned to China that Xu Sihan finally seemed like a normal person.
She’d said she liked art exhibitions and wanted to help with Yu Wei’s show—since her major was unrelated and she wanted to learn.
Yu Wei thought it was no big deal. Everyone starts somewhere.
But now Yan Shu said… Xu Sihan liked her?
Yu Wei frowned deeply. “I thought she didn’t even like me?”
“No way—she used to blush just looking at you. You never noticed? Classic shy girl behavior. Her whole vibe was just… ‘teenage poetry.’”
Yan Shu sighed dramatically and rattled off a string of random sweet foods before continuing.
“After you came back, wasn’t she always glued to you? Didn’t she always invite you to events? Even when I was the one organizing things, she was the most eager to call you.”
“She even tagged along in the middle of summer heat to check out exhibition venues. Said she liked art? Girl, please. I’ve never seen her go to an exhibit before.”
Yan Shu got more fired up the more she talked. Yu Wei, meanwhile, was a mess of question marks.
She glanced at Ji Fuyi, who was watching her with an amused, knowing look. Her heart started to race.
“Did she really have to be that detailed?” Yu Wei asked weakly.
“Then why leak the screenshots?” she asked.
“Jealousy. What else?” Yan Shu rolled her eyes so hard they could be felt through the screen. “She used to be all chummy with Fuyi, always dragging her into selfies.”
“But now? At that last party, she was downright nasty.”
Yu Wei remembered—Xu Sihan had been acting weird that night.
“I thought she was just in a bad mood.”
“No. She was pissed you two got married. She’s been crushing on you forever, and you didn’t even notice—you never gave her anything to hope for. Then you came back and married Fuyi out of nowhere? Of course she’s upset!”
“What’s it got to do with her who I marry?!” Yu Wei cried, completely baffled.
“She thinks it does, clearly,” Yan Shu muttered as she sipped her milk tea. “She decided a long time ago that you were hers.”
Ji Fuyi gave Yu Wei a sideways glance, still saying nothing.
Yu Wei broke into a cold sweat, stammering, “W-What?!”
“Back in high school, no one dared to confess to you, right?”
Yan Shu said coolly, “Because of her. She might’ve been all shy and flustered around you, but behind your back, she told people you were basically already hers. That you liked her too—just didn’t dare admit it.”
“WHAT?!”
Yu Wei was completely floored.
Ji Fuyi sat beside her, idly playing with her hand. Her fingers were a little cold, sending chills up Yu Wei’s spine.
“Then you went abroad, and lived your best life,” Yan Shu clicked her tongue. “Xu Sihan kept posting moody pictures, sulking at parties like she was heartbroken. Some people even thought you were a jerk.”
“I really didn’t know!”
The more she heard, the angrier Yu Wei got.
This was all just… fantasy!
“She’s probably not even mad at you, but at Fuyi.”
“She leaked the screenshots so people would attack Fuyi, but things didn’t go her way.”
When the call ended, Ji Fuyi asked, “Now you get it?”
Yu Wei nodded slowly. “I get it…”
“I really didn’t know she liked me…”
She sounded calm, but something in her voice made Ji Fuyi’s heart sting a little.
She thought of that moment at the party, seeing Yu Wei and Xu Sihan laughing together, and a flare of jealousy rose up again.
“Teenage poetry, huh.” Ji Fuyi raised an eyebrow, smirking.
“So you’ve been hers all along, huh?”
She pinched Yu Wei’s chin and forced her to look up. “Hmm?”
