I Woke Up And Found Myself Married - Chapter 59
While having brunch, Yue Wei’s phone rang.
There were still many unread messages on WeChat. Ever since that incident, all sorts of people had messaged her to ask what happened, but she had only responded to a few of her closest friends.
Her WeChat inbox was so overloaded that it even lagged a little when she opened it.
Yue Wei was just about to take a bite of her butter-dipped croissant half when she glanced at the most recent notification.
Xu Sihan.
She quickly swallowed the bread, set what was left on the white porcelain plate, wiped her hands with a napkin, and frowned as she picked up her phone.
Xu Sihan had sent her quite a few messages.
Yue Wei opened the chat window, and her screen was immediately flooded with white bubbles filled with dense black text.
Her head started to spin just looking at it, and she instinctively pulled the phone away from her face.
Across from her, Ji Fuyi noticed her reaction, put down her knife and fork, and asked, “What’s wrong?”
“Xu Sihan sent me WeChat messages,” Yue Wei said, holding the phone at a distance with a look of annoyance. “A whole bunch of them. Just looking at it gives me a headache.”
Ji Fuyi paused for two seconds and reached out her hand. “If you don’t mind, I can take a look?”
“Of course I don’t mind.” Yue Wei handed her the phone without hesitation. “Go ahead.”
If Ji Fuyi wanted to read the messages from Xu Sihan, Yue Wei had no problem with it. She wouldn’t even mind if Ji Fuyi scrolled through their entire chat history—anything to ease the unease she sensed in Ji Fuyi.
She still remembered that day when Yan Shu had been talking about Xu Sihan. Ji Fuyi’s gaze had changed. Her calm expression had gradually filled with possessiveness.
It was because of that conversation that they had spoken honestly about their feelings. Ji Fuyi had even confessed to her.
Yue Wei watched Ji Fuyi’s expression, trying to guess what Xu Sihan had sent.
But Ji Fuyi maintained a relaxed smile, her expression unreadable—nothing like the faintly jealous look she had worn that day when she grabbed Yue Wei’s hand.
“Why are you staring at me like that?”
Noticing Yue Wei’s gaze, Ji Fuyi set the phone down face-down and smiled at her. “Are you afraid I’ll see something?”
“What? Of course not!”
Yue Wei immediately denied it, shaking her head wildly with a look that screamed how could you even think that? She sat up straighter, widened her eyes, and said, “You can look all you want!”
“Don’t worry, I won’t snoop.”
Ji Fuyi chuckled softly as a breeze brushed through her hair. She tucked a strand behind her ear and returned Yue Wei’s phone, saying:
“She’s apologizing.”
“Apologizing for what?”
That touched a nerve. Just hearing it made Yue Wei’s anger flare up again.
She hadn’t felt much while taking the screenshot, but now that things had blown up, and so many people had been dragged into this mess, Xu Sihan was just going to lightly say sorry? And she chose this moment to do it?
When they had finally gotten a good rest, lazily woke up, slowly picked out a perfect brunch, and were enjoying it on the hotel’s panoramic terrace, this was when she decided to ruin their mood?
Ji Fuyi gestured for her to take a look herself. “The gist is that she says she messed up and hopes you’ll forgive her.”
Yue Wei skimmed the message and saw the long block of text. It was written with apparent sincerity.
“Weiwei, I’m really, really sorry. I accidentally sent that screenshot. I just wanted to show my friend what the ocean on Summer Island looked like, because she said she really wanted to go but didn’t have the time off. She was afraid it might not be that pretty, so I thought, since you were there, I’d send her a picture.”
“I really didn’t do it on purpose. I never thought she’d be so gossipy and post it to that gossip group. There are so many people in those groups—Fuyi is super famous—who knows how many fans or antis are lurking there. Then someone posted it on Weibo, and things blew up. I never imagined this would happen.”
“Fuyi is just so popular. It didn’t take long at all for the post to hit the trending topics. I tried to find the account that posted it, but it was a throwaway account that ignored me. And in the end, it dragged you into it too.”
“I had no idea things would escalate like this. I just sent a screenshot, that’s all… I feel so lost and overwhelmed.”
“Weiwei, I’m truly sorry. I’ll never do something this stupid again.”
“Can you forgive me just this once?”
Yue Wei read the message briefly, then tossed down her knife and fork.
On her plate was her favorite: eggs Benedict, cooked to perfection, with layers of smoked salmon dusted in white pepper and a dollop of hollandaise on top. It looked incredibly appetizing.
“Weiwei,” Ji Fuyi called softly, “if you don’t eat soon, it’ll get cold.”
Despite her words, she too had stopped eating.
“I don’t feel like eating anymore.”
Yue Wei sulked, slicing into the egg and tasting a bit of the salmon—flavorless and bland. “I’ve lost my appetite. And we came all the way out here for brunch on such a beautiful terrace…”
“It’s okay,” Ji Fuyi pushed a bowl of creamy stew toward her, “the terrace belongs to the hotel. We can come again tomorrow.”
“It’s not the same.”
Yue Wei looked even more downcast. “This is our first meal after your confession. I picked this beautiful terrace on purpose. So annoying.”
She held up her phone and waved it in front of Ji Fuyi. Her voice turned icy:
“She makes it sound like it all happened because you’re too popular, as if it’s somehow your fault. Unbelievable how thick-skinned she is.”
Ji Fuyi didn’t reply. She stirred the creamy stew with a silver spoon, letting the white sauce coat the carrots and potatoes, and sighed.
“Are you going to reply to her?”
After a long silence, Ji Fuyi finally asked.
Yue Wei nodded, picked up her phone, and stabbed out two words on the screen:
“No way.”
She thought that would be the end of it—at worst, their moods were ruined and needed time to recover. But as soon as she sent the message, Xu Sihan immediately called.
Yue Wei stared at the incoming voice call screen, her anger igniting.
She angrily hit Decline, but the second call came through immediately.
Again, she declined the call—and considered blocking her—only for a third call to come through right after.
Yue Wei glared at the screen, furious at how persistent and annoying she was.
“Pick it up.”
Ji Fuyi sighed, got up from across the table, and sat beside Yue Wei.
“She’s not going to stop.”
As soon as Yue Wei answered, she was met with the sound of crying.
It wasn’t just ordinary crying—it was the kind where sobs are held back in the throat, sounding pitiful and stifled.
Yue Wei didn’t speak, waiting to hear what she had to say.
After a few minutes, when Xu Sihan didn’t hear anything from her, the sobbing paused, and she whispered:
“Hello? Weiwei?”
“What is it?” Yue Wei replied coldly.
Hearing her detached tone, Xu Sihan hesitated, then said in a tearful voice:
“Weiwei… I know I was wrong. I didn’t think sending a screenshot to a friend would cause this much trouble.”
“It’s all my fault. I didn’t realize how famous Fuyi is. I’m so sorry…”
She really cried now, wiping away tears with tissues, overcome with a feeling of injustice.
Why? Why did Ji Fuyi suddenly come into the picture and take all the attention? Why did Yue Wei, whom she had liked for so long, end up marrying Ji Fuyi?
Why did sending a screenshot cause such a scandal? She had only wanted Yue Wei to see how inconvenient dating Ji Fuyi could be. But instead, Yue Wei said she wouldn’t forgive her and hung up on her twice?
She still remembered how kind Yue Wei used to be—helping her with homework, running beside her during gym class when she couldn’t keep up, sitting with her at lunch when no one else would.
Those times had shone so brightly. How did things end up like this?
Xu Sihan couldn’t accept what Yan Shu had once told her:
“Yue Wei never liked you.”
How could that be true? Yue Wei had always been so gentle.
She cried while thinking, her sobs hitching as she choked out:
“I didn’t mean for this to happen. I never wanted to hurt you. I didn’t know sending a screenshot would cause so much trouble…”
“A screenshot for a friend?” Yue Wei’s voice was laced with sarcasm. She said coldly:
“Then how do you know it got leaked through a gossip group, posted by a burner account, and ended up on the trending list? You sure seem to know the whole process clearly.”
“That so-called ‘friend’… I’m guessing it was you, wasn’t it?”
Her voice was low and quiet, but it split Xu Sihan’s heart in two.
Yue Wei knew everything.
She had found out everything.
For a moment, Xu Sihan felt her world collapse.
She had hidden it so well, flawlessly even—how had she been exposed?
“It wasn’t me… really, it wasn’t,” she said weakly.
“Enough.”
Yue Wei’s voice grew even colder, tinged with something sharp—like she was speaking to a stranger.
“You’re absolutely disgusting right now.”
If there had ever been a moment when she considered Xu Sihan a friend, that time had long since faded.
The Xu Sihan standing before her now… was exactly the kind of person Yue Wei despised.
Once this call ended, their friendship would be over.
Xu Sihan felt a chill in her bones at Yue Wei’s tone.
She would’ve rather Yue Wei yelled, scolded, cursed, even blocked her or hated her—anything but speaking to her like she was a stranger.
“Weiwei…”
Summoning the last of her courage, Xu Sihan said:
“Yes, I admit it. I did all of it. I know I was wrong.”
“I shouldn’t have done what I did. I shouldn’t have hurt you, or Fuyi, or my friends.”
Her voice shrank even smaller, but it held a flicker of hope—like a spark that refused to go out.
“Can you forgive me just this once?”
