- Episode 60 - Johnson Leetweed’s Side 2
As soon as Yuria returned to the dormitory, I headed to the palace.
“Hey! You’re the current top wizard, right?”
“How about you?”
“Me? I’m the Johnson Leetweed you’re looking for.”
The moment he said that, he deployed a magic circle and tried to bind me.
“Hmm, this magic circle, I came up with it. It seems like the bugs haven’t been fixed. It’s a shame, I was rooting for you from back then.”
“What does this mean?”
“Why don’t you ask His Highness? The reason I fled. What? You still believe the story that I ran away because I was in debt from gambling? You’re still just a child, aren’t you?”
“……”
He snaps the magic circle in half right there. He seems very surprised, but at the same time, he appears to be thinking of some other way out.
If the wizards back then had been this thoughtful, huh?
Back then, he was already a promising talent for the future. Considering there was no one to properly teach him magic, he was doing quite well.
I still have a long way to go, but that’s just how it is.
“Ah, the reason I came here. The young lady was turned into a magical beast by a counterfeit of the magical tool I created, right? I heard from Yuria that the young lady wearing the bracelet hasn’t awakened yet either.”
“Lady Yuria?”
The moment her name was mentioned, Hito-kun stopped in his tracks.
Well, wasn’t he her teacher?
It’s good to think for yourself and be open to listening.
“Oh, I’m not the culprit. Someone misused what I made upon request. That’s all there is to it. Also, the one who summoned the magical beast at the palace tea party was a man named Gelf.”
He is the forbidden magic sorcerer employed by Duke Brenst. I would have liked you to have done a thorough investigation on that. Well, it can’t be helped. I’m probably the only one who can do that anyway.
The first-year student looks regretful.
I want to commend you for doing well at such a young age.
“So, what brings you here, former Chief Royal Magician Johnson Leetweed?”
“As I mentioned earlier, when the bracelet’s magic was activated, Yuria forcibly put him to sleep.”
Is she still sleeping? I came to check on her. Where is the Sleeping Beauty?
“Are you saying I should teach you?”
“Ah, you don’t have to tell me. But since Yuria was worried, I’ll do it for her.”
“You’ve been calling Lady Yuria just ‘Yuria, Yuria’ without any honorifics. What is the meaning of this?”
Hidato-kun seems to be irritated. This is interesting.
“Oh, me? I’m pretty close with Yuria. We often go on dates together. We’re even the kind of friends who stay at inns together.”
I will answer while chuckling.
Well, I haven’t lied.
How he takes it is up to him, though.
In anger, they shot countless ice arrows at me.
“Attacking is pointless. Your arrows are weak. Normally, ice arrows channel magic like this.”
I stop his arrow just in time, cover it with my magic, and throw it back at him. Of course, I’m just aiming to barely hit him.
It seemed he understood the difference in power and stopped retorting.
“You are excellent, you know? You will grow even more from now on. Now, please guide me to Sleeping Beauty.”
“When did I say I would guide you?”
“Oh, it’s fine if I don’t ask you and just ask Randolph instead. I was the one who helped with his magic, so he should cooperate.”
“This way.”
The first-ranked student, without even trying to hide his sulky attitude, started walking. Maybe it’s time to stop teasing him.
I follow him while humming a tune.
In the innermost part of the palace guest room, a place where people usually don’t come, lay the Sleeping Princess, Miss Colleen Lane.
I open her eyes while she’s sleeping and check her situation through magic.
“Giannino, do you have the bracelet?”
“…here”
I check the offered bracelet.
“Hmm. Just as I thought. I knew something was off.”
“What do you mean by ‘strange’?”
“This bracelet is originally one that transforms the wearer into a beast they imagine. Of course, it can revert back. But, look closely at this part of the bracelet. When magic flows through it, isn’t there something written beneath the glowing letters? It’s been tampered with. That’s why a long incantation was necessary.”
“Why is a long incantation necessary?”
“When they showed her how to use this bracelet, they probably told her that. Well, she was deceived. They probably said it had an antidote spell written on it.”
You probably tried to cast a spell while wearing the tampered bracelet without knowing, and Yuria stopped you, right?
“Even after witnessing Lady Amelia transform into a magical beast, will you still do it?”
“Well, why not wake him up and ask him yourself?”
Suddenly, he makes a difficult face.
“There’s no helping it. Guard over there, bring me one of the death row inmates.”
“Could it be…?”
“If you were to sleep for all eternity, would that be okay?”
If she stays as she is, she will never wake up in her lifetime. The only way for her to wake up is for someone to take her place.
After a while, the prisoner, dragged by the guards, arrived. I cast a spell on his forehead and transferred the magic placed on Miss Colleen to him.
“Well, this should wake you up. My job ends here. The rest is up to you.”
He silently watched my magic, but then asked me one question.
“How much do you know?”
“Hmm, I wonder how far it goes? I can make some guesses, but not everything. I was away from the country too, you know.”
After thinking about something, he opened his mouth.
“Could you please teach me?”
“I’m really busy playing with Yuria. You should probably solve this problem first, right?”
“Well then, please do it after it’s resolved.”
“Hmm, I’ll think about it.”
I said that and left the room. I gave him this much of an answer.
The rest will be up to him.
