I Would Like To Live A Different Life If I Could Go Back In Time - Episode 79
“Yuria, the test is over now.”
“Yes! Master. This time, we absolutely got first place.”
The test before the long break at the academy. This time, I honestly showed my true abilities, and as a result, I came in first place in all the tests. This surprised not only my homeroom teacher but also Liz and the others.
Seeing everyone’s surprised faces and being able to catch them off guard made me feel a bit good as I headed into my long vacation. It seems my family was informed too, as I received a message from my father saying, “Keep up the good work.”
In the room, the master was elegantly sipping tea while waiting, as if eagerly anticipating the test results.
“Yeah, yeah. As expected of Yuria. What would you like as a reward? Maybe the glacier flowers that bloom at Gireil Lake?”
“Hmm. I want the Rakan ore that is mined from the Rashfoal Cave.”
“Oh, that thing. Well then, let’s go get it.”
The master stood up after finishing his tea.
You wouldn’t start now, would you?
Without thinking, I take a step back while holding Lord Randolph.
“Huh? Aren’t you going?”
“Are you not going to give me something?”
“I don’t have any Rakan ore right now. Then let’s go get some right away.”
“Huh? Isn’t it said that there are tons of A-rank monsters over there?!”
“It’s okay, it’s okay. If you can face a dragon, this is nothing. Now, put Randolph back in the cage.”
I want the ore, but that’s not a place where you can casually mine for it.
That’s right, I knew Master wasn’t that kind. I gave up and put Lord Randolph back in the basket.
“Alright, I’m going.”
With the master’s voice, we instantly arrived at the Rashford Cave.
“Master, where can we find the ore?”
“Maybe if we dig around there, we might find it. I remember when we came here before, it was located near a small river. It’s an open area, but there are many marks on the walls, probably from battles between magical beasts. If we go to that place, we might find a lot of them.”
I see.
The ceiling of the cave had cracks here and there, and light was coming through them, so it seemed unnecessary to turn on a light.
I was worried that I would have to use magic to chip away at the wall since I didn’t have a pickaxe, but according to what the master said, it seems like there are ores falling, so it looks easier than I thought.
I advanced steadily deeper with my master. Near the entrance, spider-like monsters attacked us along the walls, but we were able to defeat them without any issues.
It feels strange to be progressing without encountering any A-rank monsters.
“Yuria, is it around here?”
As I ventured deeper for a while, an open space appeared. Indeed, the walls were worn down in many places, showing signs of battles with magical beasts. At my feet, there was a narrow, shallow river, surrounded by stones of various sizes, resembling a riverbed.
Finding ore among this massive amount of stones?
Isn’t it impossible?
“Master, isn’t it impossible to find ore in here?”
“Oh, did Yuria not know? The Rakan ore glows faintly when it senses magical power.”
“I see!”
After hearing that, I cast a spell towards the riverbank without thinking, and my master laughed. As I looked at the riverbank, wondering about my master’s laughter, I indeed saw several faintly glowing stones.
“Master! I found it!”
As I happily ran over to gather stones, one by one, large horned beasts resembling monkeys appeared from somewhere.
“Ugh!”
A crushed voice involuntarily escaped.
“I forgot to mention, but the magical beasts here appear in response to magic.”
“Master! You knew, didn’t you? I wanted you to tell me sooner!!”
“Well, it’s part of my training. I can fight while picking things up.”
The master has a calm expression. Four magical beasts appeared from the back, and they are quite fast. I ran around while attacking with magic.
One by one, I avoided their attacks and countered, leaving just one remaining… or so I thought.
“Master Johnson, it’s urgent.”
“What’s wrong, Giannino?”
A message spell flew to the master’s place.
“Miss Vera Venegict has escaped from prison. Please return immediately.”
Vera escaped from prison?
No way, could that really happen?
It was enough to send the master into a downward spiral.
“Giannino, for now, I’ll leave the handling of the situation to you. We’ll head over as soon as we’re done here.”
“Understood.”
After finishing the communication with the teacher, the master instantly cleaved the remaining one with wind magic.
“Yuria, did you pick up the stones? Let’s go home.”
“I only picked up about five.”
“You can come and get it again.”
I hurried to my master while carrying a large stone. It seemed I was leaving the defeated monster behind. When I returned to the room using teleportation magic, my master was contacting Professor Giannino, still in a bad mood.
“Yuria, I’m going to go check on things for a bit, so you should polish the stones you picked up and make them usable. Okay?”
The master said that and disappeared into the palace without waiting for my reply.
I was thinking while gradually chipping away at the ore with magic.
That woman escaped from prison.
I thought Vera was spending time in the noble’s prison. The investigation into the evidence of the crime and the extent of the involvement of those arrested is still ongoing, and their sentences have not yet been determined.
Vera’s escape from prison just as her sentence is about to be finalized. Even though it’s a noble’s prison, she shouldn’t be able to use magic.
Who on earth was the one who helped?
Is it an inside job within the palace, or an external crime?
If that’s the case, it must be the Venegict family. But the marquis is already captured. It will surely become clear eventually.
