If the world had no daytime (GL) - Chapter 8
When Bai Tian returned to school, she happened to bump into Old Bald Li’s class.
She hung her head, expecting a scolding, but the old man seemed too preoccupied to bother with her. With a casual wave, he let her into the classroom and told her to sit down.
It was clear that this matter hadn’t been suppressed.
Ye Wan had been ruthless. She had collected all the evidence, taken the victimized girls to get examined, and then personally went to the police station to give a statement as an eyewitness.
With both physical and testimonial evidence, Teacher Liu couldn’t deny it even if he wanted to.
He probably never expected that the one to report him would be the principal’s daughter.
Even the principal himself hadn’t expected this.
Three days after Teacher Liu was taken away by the police, Ye Wan finally returned home.
She couldn’t hide outside forever, and this was also why Ye Chengze hadn’t called her once.
He had suppressed the news through various channels in the city’s newspapers and on various news stations, but there was no way to stop the parents’ meeting. Ye Chengze had made one call after another, until 10:30 that night, he was still out there begging people.
He couldn’t remember how many years it had been since he had played the role of a humble servant. If he was not careful, he might even have to resign to quell the matter. And the one who had caused all this was his well-behaved daughter, who everyone praised.
The Ye family’s house was located in a suburban villa complex, one of the properties left by Ye Wan’s grandfather. Even without a father who was a principal, Ye Wan was a true third-generation rich kid.
When she took a taxi to her house, it was almost 11 o’clock.
The lights were on on the second floor. Ye Wan was listening to her MP3 with her earphones on, and after changing her shoes at the door, she went straight to her room. She had no intention of greeting her father, whom she hadn’t seen for a few days.
Ye Chengze, who was walking out of the study with a worried look on his face, ran into Ye Wan who was going upstairs.
His reading glasses were still on his face, and he looked more haggard than before. He was holding a white teacup, as if he was about to go downstairs to pour water.
Ye Wan didn’t even glance at him and turned the corner to continue upstairs.
“Aren’t you going to explain to me?”
Ye Chengze called out to her, his tone not very cold, probably because he had no energy.
The white slippers stopped on the wooden stairs, Ye Wan turned around, and without even bothering to take off her earphones, she casually asked, “Is it necessary?”
Ye Chengze’s face grew even uglier. He tried his best to restrain himself and asked again, “Before you did all these things, was it difficult to tell me? How does this make others think of me when you do this?”
Ye Wan smiled. She walked down two steps from the stairs, looked at Ye Chengze, and asked, “Do you think I’m a 3-year-old child?”
The mockery on her face was too direct, stinging Ye Chengze into anger. He raised his voice, “What do you mean by that?”
“Why do I have to make it clear? You just pretend you don’t know, like you always do, and it’s fine to gloss over everything.”
“Ye Wan! I’m your father! Do you have any respect for me at all?”
The emotions on the girl’s face gradually disappeared. She looked at the man with her dark eyes, then raised her eyebrows and gave a slight smile, which quickly faded.
“You should focus on keeping your own position. Don’t meddle in my affairs.”
After saying this, she had no more heart to tangle with him and turned upstairs.
The man standing there, clutching his teacup, breathed heavily. It took him a long time to calm down.
A sigh of helplessness seemed to have existed in this small space, but no one else knew.
Locking her bedroom door, the girl ripped off her silent earphones and threw them on the bed. Then she stripped naked and walked into the bathroom in the room, turning on the shower.
The icy water enveloped her whole body, slowly extinguishing the flame in her brain that was about to burn to a melting point, leaving only a pile of ashes.
Her slender and delicate body stood under the shower, looming faintly in the mist. The girl leaned against the ceramic tile on the wall, closing her eyes and letting the water flow over her.
At 12 midnight, the phone on the bed rang.
The person who had just dried her hair picked up the phone and put it to her ear. She heard a voice that was already familiar.
“What do you want to eat tomorrow?” The girl’s voice was slightly distorted in the electronic device, but Ye Wan could easily discern from her tone what expression the other person would have on her face at this moment.
Tomorrow was Saturday, and they had already made an appointment to continue their “debt repayment”.
The other party’s eagerness was simply due to the psychology of wanting to pay off the debt as soon as possible and feel at ease, but Ye Wan was still in a good mood because of this emotion. Sitting on the balcony with her legs crossed, she looked at the stars that were faintly visible in the sky and said casually, “Whatever you make, I’ll eat.”
This sentence essentially meant “whatever,” but it had a different effect when said in a different way.
The person on the other end was indeed pleased and answered cheerfully, “Then I’ll make you something special. Just wait and eat.”
Ye Wan smiled and, thinking of something, suddenly said, “Don’t go to the shop tomorrow, Wei Zheng has a new girlfriend.”
Bai Tian understood immediately and asked, “Then where should we eat?”
“At my house.”
There had long been rumors in the school about Principal Ye actually being a rich second-generation.
But when Bai Tian really stood in front of the Ye family’s house, she realized how ignorant she was to casually break Ye Wan’s hairpin. If Ye Wan liked luxury goods, even if Bai Tian sold all her belongings, she wouldn’t be able to afford it.
The girl in her nightgown still had a look of weariness on her face. She pulled open the iron gate and yawned, asking, “What time is it?”
Bai Tian flipped open her phone and held it in front of her, answering solemnly, “It’s already 10 o’clock. Do you live in America?”
Ye Wan didn’t bother to reply and led her into the house.
Taking a pair of new slippers, Bai Tian changed her shoes very carefully, making sure not to touch anything in the process, for fear that she wouldn’t be able to afford to pay for it even if she sold all her belongings.
Ye Wan watched her carrying two bags and was a little puzzled, “What did you buy? My house has everything.”
Bai Tian shook her head, “You don’t understand, some things you can’t buy, you have to make them yourself.”
“For example?”
Bai Tian hugged the bag and raised her head proudly, “A secret family recipe, I won’t tell you.”
“Cut it out.”
Leading Bai Tian to the kitchen, Ye Wan left her alone. She didn’t even know what pot to use for noodles, so she didn’t want to join in the fun.
Bai Tian was very satisfied with this. The kitchen was her kingdom, and visitors were not allowed.
The young lady who never touched the kitchen sat on the sofa reading a book. The sounds coming from the kitchen were chaotic but had a certain rhythm. Occasionally, she would stop to look over, revealing a smile she didn’t know she had, and then she would lower her head and continue turning the pages of her book.
The house was too big and it felt empty. After giving Aunt Zhang a vacation, Ye Wan was the only one left at home. Now that Bai Tian was here, it wasn’t so lonely anymore.
When the aroma started wafting from the kitchen, the girl who had unconsciously lost her focus on reading rose from the sofa and walked to the kitchen door.
The sound of the range hood and the clanging of the spatula were unfamiliar to Ye Wan. Wearing comfortable home clothes, she leaned against the door, watching the girl who was shorter than herself busy herself, every step orderly.
“Have you been cooking since you were little?” Ye Wan asked, watching her skilled movements.
Bai Tian glanced at her, turned down the heat and covered the pot, and replied, “Yeah, I could hold a spatula before I learned to write.”
“Do you want to be a chef?” Perhaps the atmosphere was still quite harmonious, and such intimate words could be asked.
“The restaurant in my family has been passed down from my great-grandfather’s generation. Originally, it was passed down from father to son, but by my generation, I’m the only child.” As she spoke, she scooped something from a small jar and threw it into the pot.
Ye Wan tilted her head and asked curiously, “Then what about yourself? Do you want to inherit it?”
Bai Tian covered the pot, thought for a moment, then turned around and said, “I dream of it.”
Sensing that this topic might be a little delicate, Ye Wan walked into the kitchen, glanced at a bright red dish, and asked, “What’s this?”
“Sweet and sour pork.”
Ye Wan replied, “Oh,” and took a piece and put it in her mouth when the other person turned back to look at the pot.
She actually didn’t like sweet dishes, so her family never made this kind of dish, but strangely, the taste in her mouth didn’t make her feel uncomfortable.
The texture was very good, and it had a lingering aftertaste.
“Did you wash your hands!”
Ye Wan helplessly spread out her hands, “My hands are very clean.”
“Bacteria are invisible to the naked eye! Go wash your hands!” Bai Tian brandished the spatula triumphantly.
“Okay, okay, I got it.”
Ye Wan mumbled and walked to the sink and turned on the faucet.
Perhaps it was because she had just added hot water, the water coming out now was still warm, and it felt warm and comfortable in her hands.
Ye Wan couldn’t help but squint her eyes and washed her hands carefully, then when the person next to her leaned over, she suddenly scooped up a handful of hot water and splashed it over.
The water droplets fell into the pot that had just been uncovered, splashing out a burst of hot oil. Bai Tian, who was completely unprepared, was scalded badly.
“Get out of here! Don’t come in!” The girl who hadn’t been scalded by oil for countless years instantly transformed into a roaring tyrant.
Ye Wan hadn’t expected this to happen. She retracted her hand resentfully, turned off the faucet, and slunk out of the kitchen.
After estimating that Bai Tian should not be so angry anymore, she poked her head out and asked, “How long until dinner is ready? I’m hungry.”
“Then stay hungry.” Bai Tian said without looking back.
After a while, Ye Wan poked her head out again, waved the bandage in her hand, and asked, “Does it still hurt? Shall I put some medicine on it for you?”
“No need.” Bai Tian still didn’t turn around.
Ye Wan held the bandage, looked at her for a while, and then retracted her head and left the kitchen door.
After making two dishes and a soup, Bai Tian had also calmed down. She brought the food out, but didn’t see anyone. Just as she was wondering where the person had gone, she saw Ye Wan walking back from the living room with a bandage wrapped around her finger.
“What’s wrong with your hand?” she asked strangely, it had been fine just now.
“Oh, I scalded it with hot water. So we’re even now.” Ye Wan shook her finger and said casually.
Bai Tian almost slipped with the plate in her hand.
The alarm bell in her heart immediately went off, frantically yelling at Bai Tian: Something’s wrong, Ye Wan is definitely not normal.
Which normal person would do things so extreme?
Although she had known early on that she was not ordinary, at this moment, Bai Tian felt that her perception had been refreshed.
Her mind was clearly analyzing this, but as Bai Tian put down the dish and watched the person who came over and pretended to be serious to steal some food, the softest part of her heart felt like it had been stepped on by a cat’s paw.
“You’re so silly.”
She took Ye Wan’s bandaged hand and walked into the kitchen, turning on the faucet and starting to rinse it with cold water.
“You can’t put any strange things on a burn, you have to rinse it with cold water first.”
Seeing the toothpaste in the bandage, Bai Tian just wanted to open Ye Wan’s brain to see what was inside.
“You’re the top student in your grade, how can you be so ignorant?”
The person being lectured just smiled and said nothing.
“I really don’t know what you’re thinking about with your smart head.”
While holding her hand and rinsing it, Bai Tian couldn’t stop muttering.
“Obviously, I’m thinking about things that are different from yours.” Ye Wan replied casually.
Bai Tian rolled her eyes.
In a place where she couldn’t see, a smile flashed in the girl’s eyes.
She’s so cute, so simple and kind-hearted.
T/N: Bai”wife material” Tian.
