- Chapter 66 - She Wanted to Be Remembered Too…
Xing Tianqing was momentarily stunned by what she heard. She looked at Guan Xiaoxuan and Chen Man, hesitated for a second, but didn’t ask anything. She stood up with her things and said to Guan Xiaoxuan, “I’ll wait for you outside. Come find me when you’re done.”
Once Xing Tianqing left the hospital room, Guan Xiaoxuan finally turned her gaze to Chen Man.
“What’s wrong?” Chen Man looked at her, confused. Something about today felt off—Guan Xiaoxuan had been right beside her, yet it felt like only she and Xing Tianqing were in the room. Every time Guan Xiaoxuan spoke, it startled her.
Guan Xiaoxuan held up her phone, showing a picture of Jin Cheng. She asked, “Is this the boss Jin you mentioned?”
Chen Man glanced at the photo. “Yeah, his name’s right there. What’s going on?”
“How long have you known him?”
“About a month.”
“And all the gossip flying around campus about you—was it about him too?”
Hearing that, Chen Man looked away awkwardly. “I’m an adult. I know what I’m doing and who I want to be with.”
Guan Xiaoxuan frowned. “The man who came to pick you up from school last time—was that him?”
“Yeah,” Chen Man said. “You’ve helped me a lot, so I won’t hide this from you. Jin’s not into marriage. Sure, he has a lot of women around him, but I really like him and want to be with him. He’s generous, and I’ve got things I want to do too. We’re just a little closer than normal. People at school love to gossip. Don’t they also go to hotels with their boyfriends?”
Guan Xiaoxuan didn’t care about Chen Man’s personal life. Right now, she just wanted to know everything about this so-called Boss Jin.
Chen Man, still puzzled, told her everything she knew. But the truth was, she didn’t know that much—just that Jin was wealthy, generous, and had lots of women. She was just one of them.
She was well aware of her role in his life. She liked his looks and his money, but didn’t know much beyond that. She could only offer a few vague details.
After hearing all this, Guan Xiaoxuan frowned deeply.
She had way too little information on him. She wasn’t even sure if he could help her. For a moment, she fell into deep thought.
Seeing her like that, Chen Man figured she must be in some kind of trouble she couldn’t solve alone. So she offered, “I’ll send you Jin’s WeChat. He’s actually pretty nice and usually willing to help. If you’re in a real bind, maybe he can do something.”
Once Chen Man sent over Jin’s contact, Guan Xiaoxuan said, “I’ll think it over. You should get some rest.”
Leaving the hospital room, Guan Xiaoxuan pulled out her phone and looked at Jin’s profile. His avatar showed just the collar of a black-and-gold tie on a suit. His Moments feed was clean—just company promos and media coverage. He looked like a regular businessman.
But Guan Xiaoxuan knew he could walk through the mist—meaning he was more powerful than any supernatural being she’d met.
Someone like that—could she really afford to get involved?
She was very self-aware. In real life, she was just a regular college student. Even in the Paranormal Bureau, she wasn’t an official member. Among the strange and supernatural, she only knew Bai Zhiqi and Haohao. Now she was even being haunted by a Red-Dressed Ghost—she could die any day. She had no leverage to make any kind of deal.
Putting away her phone, Guan Xiaoxuan decided not to think about it for now. First, she needed to deal with the Red-Dressed Ghost.
Xing Tianqing was sitting in the hospital corridor making a call. Guan Xiaoxuan walked over, but she didn’t even notice. Even when Guan stood right in front of her, she kept talking on the phone like she wasn’t there.
“Get everyone over here. The meeting starts at 1:30 sharp.”
“Anyone who can come, should come—even off-record personnel.”
“Guan Xiaoxuan wants to use herself as bait. She thinks being naturally visible to supernatural entities can draw their attention.”
“Yes, exactly what you’re thinking. Do you think it’ll work?”
“…Alright. Then let’s go with your plan for now. Let the others know, and we’ll finalize things in the meeting.”
After hanging up, Xing Tianqing tiredly rubbed her temples, only to feel a pair of warm hands gently press against them.
That’s when she finally noticed Guan Xiaoxuan was standing right in front of her. She blinked in surprise, then smiled. “You’re always popping up out of nowhere—you startled me.”
Guan Xiaoxuan didn’t smile. She looked at her calmly and asked, “Captain Xing, what if one day, I try to touch you, and you can’t even feel me anymore—what happens then?”
Xing Tianqing’s smile froze.
“Yesterday, you could still see me, just not hear me. Today, unless I touch you, you can’t even see me. So, what about tomorrow? Will it get to the point where even if I touch you, you won’t see me at all? Will I completely disappear?”
“That won’t happen,” Xing Tianqing said. “We’re launching an operation tonight. You’ll be fine.”
Guan Xiaoxuan nodded and said nothing more.
Earlier, when she was standing in front of Xing Tianqing, one question kept running through her mind:
If she really did disappear from this world… who would even remember her?
Zhang Wen was her classmate. A normal person with a normal life—once she graduates and starts working, she’ll meet more people. A few years from now, she’d probably forget all about her.
Bai Zhiqi was a supernatural being. She might not even remember herself—would she really remember someone like Guan Xiaoxuan?
And what about Xing Tianqing?
This woman who had always looked after and protected her… would she remember her?
Guan Xiaoxuan didn’t think so.
Xing Tianqing dealt with so many people. More than she could even count. Someone like Guan Xiaoxuan was just a passing figure in her life. Why would she be remembered?
In short, if Guan Xiaoxuan vanished today, there probably wouldn’t be a single person who’d remember her.
Everyone else would go on with their lives. No one would remember someone named Guan Xiaoxuan.
As sad as that was, she had to accept it. She wasn’t some great figure—just a normal person. When danger struck, she was fragile. One breath from her enemy could wipe her out.
It was so pitiful.
Guan Xiaoxuan felt that in this world, her existence was so pathetic.
She wanted to be remembered too…
Old Site of Xinglin City Sixth Hospital
It was a quiet spot by the river. The area was huge, but the hospital had been abandoned for years—neither usable nor fully torn down.
Xiao An took a photo of the pitch-black hospital lobby with his tablet, then turned to Xing Tianqing and said, “Captain Xing, we can confirm there are paranormal entities inside.”
Sixth Hospital used to be one of the city’s top medical centers. It had saved many lives.
But a few years ago, strange things started happening. Patients began dying one after another. The rate of medical accidents broke city records. Even veteran doctors had three serious incidents in a row.
After that, the hospital began to decline. People stopped coming, and it was eventually abandoned.
Some said it was haunted—that thing had escaped from within and harmed both doctors and patients, taking countless lives.
There was no way to prove those rumors. But one thing was clear: this was a perfect place to trap the Red-Dressed Ghost.
Remote. Desolate. No people.
And most importantly—it was already haunted. The other entities would definitely be drawn to Guan Xiaoxuan and become the Red-Dressed Ghost’s targets.
Once the ghost showed up, the hidden team could ambush it and finally put an end to her!
Every member of the Paranormal Bureau had been mobilized for this mission—even off-record staff. Qiu Nan, despite being injured, insisted on applying speed charms for his teammates. Everyone was united with one goal: take down the Red-Dressed Ghost!
Xing Tianqing took the tablet from Xiao An, checked the radar and scanner readings, confirming the presence of a few lingering entities in the building.
“Our mission today is to eliminate the Red-Dressed Ghost from the bus stop. We’ll deal with the others in the hospital afterward,” she said into her walkie-talkie. “Everyone, get ready.”
As soon as she finished speaking, a chill swept through the hall, making Guan Xiaoxuan shiver.
She had brought both of her special items today, just in case. She glanced at the A-grade item on her wrist but still felt nervous.
Seeing her on edge, Xing Tianqing handed her a gun from behind her waist.
“What’s this?” Guan Xiaoxuan asked, confused.
“It’s called Seven-Star Begonia,” Xing Tianqing explained. “It’s a new weapon from the rewards center—no recoil, holds seven rounds. Lin Weiwei said you’d love it, so I traded for it.”
As she held the gun, Guan Xiaoxuan suddenly remembered seeing it before—back when a batch of new equipment had arrived. She’d even carried it back to the lab herself.
She never thought she’d run into it again here.
“It’s called Seven-Star Begonia? Pretty name. Who named it?” Guan asked, but got no response. When she looked up, she saw Xing Tianqing and Xiao An were already setting up positions—they hadn’t heard her at all.
With a sigh, Guan Xiaoxuan holstered the gun and glanced around. That’s when she noticed a round shape in the hospital corridor, at the base of the stairs.
At first, she thought it was a ball. But when it moved, she gasped.
It wasn’t a ball at all—it was a human head!
The head had short hair, and under the moonlight, it was hard to tell if it was male or female. Just as Guan Xiaoxuan leaned in to get a better look, a headless paranormal creature walked down the stairs, bent over, picked up the head, and placed it on its shoulders.
Guan Xiaoxuan: “……”
She stared at the creature. Its head was on backward, and it didn’t realize it. Instead of readjusting it, it turned its entire body to face her—locking eyes with her.
“Captain Xing.”
Guan Xiaoxuan took two steps back and tugged on the sleeve of the person behind her. “I think something’s noticed me. When exactly are we starting?”
But no answer came.
She tugged again at the sleeve, only to find it damp… and faintly smelling of bl00d.
