- Chapter 70 - "Miss Guan, I've been waiting for you a long time."
Guan Xiaoxuan woke up from her dream and looked at Xing Tianqing sleeping beside her. Her brows relaxed slightly as she turned to look at her.
Xing Tianqing was restless even in her sleep, frowning tightly. Her hand hidden under the blanket was clenched into a fist, as if she was doing something important in her dream. Watching this, Guan Xiaoxuan couldn’t help but let her mind wander.
Today was the fourth day. If nothing unexpected happened, her presence would be even weaker than yesterday.
In the case of the woman in red, most people began to disappear on the fifth day. This meant Guan Xiaoxuan didn’t have much time left — maybe today, or tomorrow — before she would completely vanish.
With a long sigh, Guan Xiaoxuan got up to wash up.
Her focus was a little off today; she kept zoning out. After thinking it over, she decided to order takeout instead of cooking herself.
Since that woman started targeting her, nothing happened on the first day. But from the second day on, people already found it hard to hear her speak. By the third day, they began to ignore her completely. If they didn’t touch her or focus hard, they couldn’t even notice she was there.
So now it was the fourth day — what did she look like to others?
Guan Xiaoxuan glanced at the bedroom but didn’t disturb Xing Tianqing. After feeding the cat, she began eating her own breakfast.
While feeding the cat, she noticed that even the chubby cat seemed to not notice her presence. Sometimes, it would just walk straight into her without realizing it.
After bumping into her, the cat would look around confused before going back to eat carefreely.
The cat’s reaction worried Guan Xiaoxuan a bit. She looked at her breakfast but didn’t have much appetite, quietly waiting for Xing Tianqing to wake up.
At 7 o’clock, the alarm rang. Guan Xiaoxuan heard noises from the bedroom, then Xing Tianqing appeared wearing her nightgown, looking dazed as she glanced around the house and called out, “Guan Xiaoxuan?”
Guan Xiaoxuan calmly replied, “I’m here.”
But Xing Tianqing seemed not to hear her. She shook her messy long hair and wandered through every room, even opening her arms as if she wanted to touch Guan Xiaoxuan.
Seeing this, Guan Xiaoxuan put down her breakfast and went over, tugging on her nightgown. “I’m here.”
Then something strange happened.
Although Guan Xiaoxuan held onto Xing Tianqing’s clothes, she seemed completely unaware and just shrugged it off, continuing to look for her.
Guan Xiaoxuan was stunned. After a few seconds, she tried again, pulling harder — so hard she even got bumped by Xing Tianqing.
After pushing Guan Xiaoxuan away, Xing Tianqing took a couple of steps into the dining room, looked at the breakfast on the table, and only then realized she had bumped into something. She quickly looked around but found nothing.
At that moment, Guan Xiaoxuan was standing right in front of her, even waving her hand. But Xing Tianqing just couldn’t see her.
“Xing Tianqing? Captain Xing?” Guan Xiaoxuan frowned. “Can you really not see me?”
Xing Tianqing’s face turned pale as she shouted, “Where are you? Did I just bump into you? Why can’t I see you, Guan Xiaoxuan?!”
No matter how loudly Guan Xiaoxuan spoke, Xing Tianqing couldn’t notice her. Finally, Guan Xiaoxuan had no choice but to take out her phone and start typing. Xing Tianqing’s phone in the bedroom rang with a ding.
Suddenly remembering something, Xing Tianqing hurried back and picked up her phone, reading the message from Guan Xiaoxuan.
Guan Xiaoxuan: “I’m right in front of you, but you can’t seem to see me. You bumped into me in the living room, but you didn’t notice.”
Xing Tianqing’s face went pale. She said to the empty air, “Guan Xiaoxuan, sit on the sofa and don’t move. I’ll try to figure something out.”
Ding
Guan Xiaoxuan: “Okay, I’m sitting here on the single sofa. But what should we do today? Will I disappear tomorrow?”
Xing Tianqing left the bedroom and looked at the empty single sofa. She sat down in front of it.
Guan Xiaoxuan held her phone, watching Xing Tianqing’s expression, and typed to comfort her: “Don’t worry. That woman didn’t come looking for me in my dreams last night. I think she must be hurt too. At least I should be safe until tonight.”
Xing Tianqing rubbed her temples painfully, then finally looked up and said to Guan Xiaoxuan, “You should stay home today. I’ll try to find a solution. It’s too dangerous for you to go out with me like this.”
Guan Xiaoxuan: “Okay, I’ll stay home today.”
Xing Tianqing glanced at her phone, then went back to the bedroom to change clothes. A minute later, she came out wearing a black windbreaker, having freshened up a bit and ready to leave. Before she went out, she said to the empty sofa, “Don’t run away. Message me if anything happens. I’ll be back to check on you at noon.”
Actually, Guan Xiaoxuan was already standing by the doorway, watching her prepare before sending a single “Okay” message.
After Xing Tianqing hurriedly left, Guan Xiaoxuan didn’t waste time either. She went to the spare bedroom, changed into clothes for going out, and decided to bring her belongings.
She wore a denim jacket and carried a small crossbody bag containing Cheng Yi’s face mask, glass beads, and the Seven-Star Begonia loaded with bullets.
These were her few special items. She couldn’t stay still. That woman didn’t come looking for her last night, but she definitely would tonight.
Her time was running out.
After getting dressed, Guan Xiaoxuan put on her shoes and left.
While riding the elevator, she took out her phone, found Chen Man’s WeChat, clicked on the recommended contact card, and added her.
Just a few seconds after adding, the other person quickly accepted.
When Guan Xiaoxuan walked out of the building, her phone rang with a ding. Someone sent her a message.
She opened it, her pupils slightly widening.
Jin Cheng: [Location Information]
The black tie avatar said nothing but sent Guan Xiaoxuan a location. She clicked on it and found it was an address—a villa in Pengpai Bay.
Pengpai Bay was the top residential area in Xinglin City, built by an artificial lake surrounded by mountains. Every house was a detached villa, home to the very rich and powerful.
Jin Cheng sent her an address, as if he had long expected she would come looking for him.
Who exactly was this person?
Guan Xiaoxuan frowned, holding her phone. It seemed he had known her situation long ago and was just waiting for her to take the bait.
It was somewhat annoying.
But Guan Xiaoxuan had no choice and had to grit her teeth to follow the navigation. The villa was about 14 kilometers away.
She originally wanted to take a taxi, but thought about her current state. Taking a taxi might scare the driver, which would be awkward.
The bus was no better for the same reason. So she swiped a shared bike at the neighborhood gate and started riding there.
The red-clothed woman’s influence on Guan Xiaoxuan seemed to affect the things she used too. At least during the bike ride, no one noticed the bike moving on its own, which reassured her quite a bit.
After riding for a long time, Guan Xiaoxuan finally reached the entrance of the Pengpai Bay villa community.
She glanced at the gate, then followed a car that was entering, sneaking inside quietly.
After riding a bit more within the villa area, Guan Xiaoxuan arrived at the address Jin Cheng had given her. She looked up at the three-story building that looked like a castle and was dazzled by the wealth of the capitalist class.
The white three-story house really did look like a castle from a fairy tale. Guan Xiaoxuan casually parked the shared bike by the roadside and looked up at the villa.
She had heard that housing prices in Pengpai Bay were extremely high. For a villa this big, it must cost at least tens of millions, maybe even over a hundred million.
Guan Xiaoxuan thought to herself, with the wages she made working outside, even if she started saving from the Warring States period and didn’t eat or drink, she probably wouldn’t be able to afford it until the Qing dynasty.
Just as she was lost in these thoughts, she noticed a dark figure standing at a third-floor window.
The person wore a black jacket and black clothes, standing by the window, staring intently at Guan Xiaoxuan. She was a little startled.
How could that person see her?
It seemed impossible. Maybe yesterday it was still possible, but today Guan Xiaoxuan was almost invisible. How could an ordinary person see her?
But that man really was watching her. He even curled his lips slightly and gave her a faint smile.
Guan Xiaoxuan felt goosebumps all over. She frowned and stared at the man, but he had already left the window.
Suddenly, the villa’s front gate opened from the inside, and a strong man in his thirties stood at the door. After opening it, he left.
Guan Xiaoxuan knew this was the owner inviting her in. She hesitated for a moment, then followed the sturdy man into the yard and walked along a path to the villa’s front.
The bronze-colored front door was already open. Guan Xiaoxuan saw two women, probably maids, hanging clothes in the garden. Two golden retrievers, one large and one small, ran around the yard.
The garden was full of flowers and green plants. Even the roadside had some flowers and shrubs. It looked very artistic, obviously carefully designed and maintained.
After opening the door, the man left. Guan Xiaoxuan stood at the entrance for a while before stepping inside.
At the foyer, she saw a pair of women’s slippers clearly set out for her. This made her even more certain that the person she saw upstairs was Jin Cheng, the boss.
After changing shoes, Guan Xiaoxuan stepped into the lavish villa. The living room on the first floor was very spacious, with every detail cleverly designed and extremely luxurious.
Through the floor-to-ceiling windows that nearly took up the entire wall, she could still see the two golden retrievers running around. The maid had finished hanging the bedding and was leaving with a basket. The dogs rolled on the floor, and she hurried to chase after them.
Sunlight poured in, making the decorated villa shine like a palace.
Guan Xiaoxuan, not used to such luxury, had only seen villas like this in TV shows and movies. Standing here now, she felt a little out of place.
Just then, footsteps sounded from the nearby stairs. Guan Xiaoxuan looked up.
She saw a man in a black long robe and black clothes standing on the stairs, looking down at her with a gentle laugh.
“Miss Guan, I’ve been waiting for you for a long time.”
