- Chapter 93 - “Save... her...”
Xing Tianqing stood frozen as the bl00d flower burst open.
That bl00d mist felt like it had stolen her breath away. Before going up the mountain, Guan Xiaoxuan had been chatting and laughing with her. Just a few days ago, Guan Xiaoxuan said once this mission was over, she’d prepare seriously for her final exams.
All of it was still so clear in her mind — but now, the person was gone.
A heavy weight pressed on Xing Tianqing’s chest, suffocating her. She broke free from those holding her back and tried to rush forward for one last look — but she slipped on a stone and fell hard to the ground.
Did it hurt?
Xing Tianqing barely felt it. She only stared at the red mess of bl00d and flesh, struggling to get up, then lunged straight ahead.
When her hands touched something cold, she looked inside and could no longer hold back her tears. She cried out loud.
“Guan Xiaoxuan is not a paranormal! Why did you do this to her?” Xing Tianqing’s eyes were bloodshot as she turned to her mother and shouted, “Why? Why did you do this?”
“Clearing anomalies is our duty,” Xing Wenjun looked down at Xing Tianqing with disappointment. “You shouldn’t be crying. You’ve never cried since you were little, yet now you’re throwing a tantrum over a paranormal.”
“She’s not a paranormal. There must be some misunderstanding!” Xing Tianqing clenched her fists and slammed them hard against the cold ice. Her golden eyes had now turned bright red — like a trapped beast in the dark night.
Xing Wenjun was deeply disappointed. She had adopted Xing Tianqing because she saw her potential and nurtured her with care.
But now, Xing Tianqing was arguing with her over someone named Guan Xiaoxuan and had completely lost her composure.
“Xing Tianqing, as the squad leader, you bear responsibility for not noticing Guan Xiaoxuan’s condition. And now look at this mess — don’t you feel ashamed?” Xing Wenjun frowned and said harshly, “I’m fully in charge of today’s mission. Your actions will be dealt with by higher-ups.”
Suddenly, Xing Wenjun heard a guttural roar not far away.
It sounded like a scream tearing through someone’s throat, making the air reek of bl00d!
“You… killed her…!!!”
Song Yi had somehow defeated the octopus woman. Now, holding one of her arms, she was covered in bright red bl00d — looking like a demon crawling out of hell. Her fierce eyes locked onto Xing Wenjun.
“Still alive?” Xing Wenjun glanced at Song Yi with interest, arms crossed. “Your master is dead. Why keep her around?”
Song Yi bared her teeth, threw the arm aside, and charged forward!
She moved fast — but the Paranormal Bureau agents were faster. They quickly drew their weapons and launched all sorts of attacks at her.
Song Yi’s body was stained red as she flew forward, smelling heavily of bl00d — but the agents were unfazed. Dozens of bullets fired at her were deflected by her long hair, which she swung aside effortlessly.
Xing Wenjun watched as Song Yi easily shrugged off the attacks, impressed.
The agents hesitated for a moment, then switched tactics. Two of them pulled out thick black books, roughly the size of a Bible, and began chanting softly. As they did, the wind around them shifted, forming a man-made gust on the mountain peak.
In the chaos, Song Yi fought her way through the crowd, her goal clear — Guan Xiaoxuan’s body.
Xing Wenjun noticed Song Yi’s speed and stepped aside. She watched as Song Yi crashed through the icy barrier around the body with a bang and collapsed onto the bloody flesh, silently sobbing.
“Ah… ah… ah…!!!”
Song Yi couldn’t believe it. Just moments ago, Guan Xiaoxuan had been fine — now all that was left was this mess of broken flesh. She dug desperately with her hands but couldn’t find anything intact.
Xing Wenjun saw Song Yi had walked right into a trap. She pulled another ice block from her pocket and was about to throw it — but someone knocked it aside.
“You!” Xing Wenjun turned and saw Xing Tianqing had gotten back up. Just moments ago, she had thrown a stone at Xing Wenjun’s wrist, causing her to miss.
Sensing danger, Song Yi quickly looked back at Xing Wenjun with fierce eyes, marked her with a glare, grabbed Guan Xiaoxuan’s backpack, and ran out.
Before escaping, Song Yi used her long hair to shatter the ice barrier into pieces.
Xing Wenjun was about to attack again when Xing Tianqing suddenly stepped in front of her, holding the golden book, and said, “Rule 14: No pursuing fleeing paranormal.”
The golden book’s rules weren’t so powerful over humans, and Xing Wenjun hesitated briefly before breaking free.
But in that moment’s pause, Xing Wenjun could only watch as Song Yi escaped down the mountain.
“Xing Tianqing!” Xing Wenjun’s face turned dark with anger. “You let a paranormal get away. Do you even know what you’re doing?!”
Xing Tianqing looked at her with crimson eyes, tightly pressing her lips without replying.
Xing Wenjun was furious but didn’t care about her feelings. She immediately ordered the Paranormal Bureau agents to pursue Song Yi down the mountain.
They searched all night but found no trace of her. In the end, Xing Wenjun vented her frustration on the paranormal squad, ordering everyone to halt their current tasks and assist with the headquarters’ investigation.
At 3 a.m., when all was silent,
Jin Cheng was sound asleep in bed but suddenly opened his eyes.
Soon, he heard the barking of a golden retriever downstairs, along with noises from his assistant, Lu Wen. It seemed a paranormal had come to the house. Lu Wen spoke softly with someone, but when they couldn’t reach an agreement, a gunshot echoed.
Jin Cheng sat up, turned on his bedside lamp, and peered out the window.
At the gate, Lu Wen stood guard with a hunting rifle, while a bloodied woman stood outside.
The woman looked injured, bl00d dripping from her body. Her usually neat long hair was messy and singed, as if she had been chased for a long time and partly burned by fire. She looked disheveled.
She didn’t seem to care about her wounds, clutching the backpack tightly as she locked eyes with Lu Wen.
That paranormal was none other than Song Yi — the woman who had fled the mountain carrying Guan Xiaoxuan’s backpack.
Jin Cheng watched their tense standoff. Lu Wen didn’t want to disturb anyone inside the villa, so he was reluctant to let Song Yi in, but Song Yi clearly had urgent business with Jin Cheng. The two remained locked in a stalemate at the gate.
“Let her in,” Jin Cheng said from the third floor to Lu Wen at the gate. “If the neighbors see this, it’ll be a problem.”
Lu Wen glanced back and lowered his weapon, leading the bl00d-soaked Song Yi inside.
Jin Cheng threw on a jacket and went downstairs. Lu Wen had already turned on the living room lights and poured Jin Cheng a glass of water. Seeing Jin Cheng come down, he quietly stood by the sofa, waiting.
As Jin Cheng reached the living room, the smell of bl00d hit him. He glanced at Song Yi and said, “That bl00d isn’t yours, is it?”
Song Yi stood clutching the backpack, trembling with anger.
She opened her mouth but couldn’t speak. Her hands gripped the sides of the bag tightly, eyes bloodshot.
Jin Cheng seemed to understand something. Sitting on the sofa, he asked Song Yi, “Guan Xiaoxuan is dead?”
That question struck a nerve. Song Yi’s long hair whipped wildly as if she wanted to kill someone immediately, her entire body radiating rage.
“Enough. Don’t lose your mind in my house,” Jin Cheng said calmly, leaning back on the sofa. “If you really have the strength, go find that person and get your revenge. Why come to me?”
Song Yi finally calmed her hair and fixed her red eyes on Jin Cheng. She opened her mouth and whispered, “Save… her…”
From Song Yi’s story, Jin Cheng learned what had happened that night. He showed no surprise, maintaining his usual calm expression.
“Do you know why Guan Xiaoxuan died?” Jin Cheng asked softly.
Song Yi didn’t answer, staring intently at him.
“Because you were too weak.” Jin Cheng tilted his head and crossed his legs. “If you were strong enough, you wouldn’t have been caught by that paranormal, and Guan Xiaoxuan wouldn’t have died in front of you. It all happened because you were too weak.”
Jin Cheng said lightly, “You couldn’t protect your master, so it’s only natural that she died.”
Song Yi trembled with a mix of anger and sorrow.
Finally understanding Jin Cheng’s point, she hugged Guan Xiaoxuan’s backpack and tried to leave — but Lu Wen blocked her way with his rifle.
Jin Cheng picked up his glass of warm water and said calmly, “You wanted me to save Guan Xiaoxuan, right? Are you really going to leave just like that? Would your heart accept it?”
Song Yi turned back, lips trembling, and whispered, “You… can…”
“Of course I can.” Jin Cheng smiled warmly. “She is the God Bell’s beloved attendant. Her physical death doesn’t mean she’s completely gone. After all, she’s someone my master cares about — she won’t die so easily.”
Song Yi’s eyes widened slightly.
“At most, one week,” Jin Cheng said, lowering his gaze as he drank water. “Until then, you’ll stay in my basement and wait for that day to come.”
There was a lot of commotion recently at the Weird Affairs Bureau. All missions were put on hold as they awaited investigators sent from headquarters.
That night, after failing to capture Song Yi, Xing Wenjun looked grim. She sat in the interrogation room, staring at Xing Tianqing, who also looked troubled. She tapped the table with her finger, signaling Xing Tianqing to look at her.
“Xing Tianqing, Guan Xiaoxuan is already dead. Why keep pretending otherwise?” one of the interrogators beside Xing Wenjun said. “Everyone on the team has already signed this report. If you sign it too, this case can be closed.”
Xing Tianqing’s eyes fell on the report in front of her. She had read it many times. The report stated that Guan Xiaoxuan was a “strange”—someone with hidden motives who got close to Xing Tianqing and joined the Strange Affairs team.
Now, if everyone admitted that Guan Xiaoxuan was a strange and that no one knew anything, the case could be reported to headquarters and officially closed.
But Xing Tianqing’s expression never changed as she looked at the report.
Her hand gently touched Guan Xiaoxuan’s name. Thinking of Guan Xiaoxuan’s smile just before she died, she closed her bloodshot eyes and said firmly, word by word, “Guan Xiaoxuan… she is not a strange.”
