I’m Allergic to Pheromones - Chapter 15
The car came to a stop in front of the 500-square-meter garden villa. As Nan Ju stepped inside, two silly dogs came bounding towards her, tails wagging furiously.
Wait, why did she say two?
A plump, golden-brown puppy leaped down the steps from the corridor, yapping and tumbling towards its owner. Nan Ju watched as it fell over five or six times, each time landing on its back like a little turtle struggling to right itself.
“Silly dog.”
She silently scoffed, showing no intention of walking over. Before long, a heavy puppy had attached itself to her leg.
“Baibai, you’ve torn my stockings again.”
In times of peace, Baibai was a nuisance; in times of trouble, it was a treasure.
Nan Ju was adamant about the name she had given it from the start, and as long as they were at home, she would call it that, hoping this oblivious silly dog would recognize its noble status and act a little less foolishly.
The puppy was harmless, soft and playful, but it could be quite a handful. In just the past two days, it had knocked over three flower pots, chewed through four curtains, and torn five of Nan Ju’s stockings, for which it received a “loving punishment.”
“Woof woof~”
Clearly, the villa’s dog was a bit clever; it had even learned to bow!
The chubby, fluffy puppy raised its two short paws, trembling as it mimicked a “please, please” gesture, making it impossible for anyone to scold it.
Nan Ju clicked her tongue but said nothing more.
Meanwhile, the neglected girl beside her endured and held back, glancing between the dog and the puppy, seriously contemplating whether she should go up and hug its leg.
She had run over with the dog, yet not only had she failed to outrun it, but Nan Ju hadn’t even spared her a glance.
The proud, middle-school girl naturally felt angry.
“What’s so great about a mutt? My classmates have big dogs, like German Shepherds and Alaskans. They’re so cool.”
Nan Ju cast a faint glance at Nan Xing, lingering on her rainbow-colored hair for a mere 0.01 seconds before rolling her eyes away.
Her eyes hurt.
“What are you doing here?”
The original owner had lived in this garden villa since adulthood, and her relationship with her half-sister was quite ordinary.
Nan Ju couldn’t think of any reason for Nan Xing to seek her out. Had she come to complain to their parents after being scared by her?
With that thought, Nan Ju shot a peculiar glance at her strange sister.
“What’s with that look?!”
Not receiving the response she had imagined, Nan Xing felt a bit embarrassed. However, as the proud and dramatic heir of the Mourning Love family, she quickly shook off her little emotions and puffed out her chest, “Dad said you should take care of me more from now on.”
Nan Xing strutted, her face full of “my dad said,” while Nan Ju fell silent for a moment, lowering her long lashes as she looked down at this rebellious girl, who barely reached her chest in height and wore a school uniform. She glanced at the girl’s flat chest, which was straining to puff out, and replied casually, “You skipped school again?”
“W-why do you care? Just agree to it already!”
“Fine, but you know this is my territory, right?”
“Of course I know.”
Under the gaze of those beautiful, emotionless eyes, Nan Xing instinctively shrank her neck, her feet slipping off the little stones she had been standing on.
Why did she have to speak like that?
Nan Ju bent down to pick up the dog, which offered no resistance, stretching out its front paws in a strangely peaceful and relaxed manner as it was carried into the villa.
“Keep up.”
“Okay.”
The fearless little miss of the Nan family quickly responded, but her face turned bright red as she realized her situation.
How infuriating! Was her treatment really worse than that of a dog?
Why had her sister suddenly adopted such an attitude, even more spoiled than a child?
Nan Xing followed Nan Ju into the villa, experiencing for the first time the top-tier treatment her sister received.
Honestly, she was so jealous her eyes turned red.
The garden villa, the young and beautiful Beta servants, she stood in the center of the living room, watching Nan Ju being served like a lord, eyes closed as someone helped her out of her black suit jacket, while another knelt to take off her high heels. Inside, she felt like a vinegar jar had been overturned.
How infuriating! The old man really favored O over B!
“Take it to get a bath and clean its paws.”
The dog was handed over to the maid, Xia Duo. Nan Ju pinched the puppy’s ear, raising an eyebrow, “I haven’t settled the score with you yet, you naughty thing.”
Though displeased, Baibai wagged its tail furiously, “Woof woof~”
Half an hour later, Nan Ju came downstairs with her freshly washed and dried long hair, immediately spotting her silly sister playing with the dog.
Nan Xing sat on the floor like a child, holding a lion-head toy adorned with a sunflower high above her head, a challenging look on her face: “Come on, come on, if you can catch it, it’s yours!”
The clean, fragrant little mutt was digging at the ground, its front half lying flat while its little rear end wiggled in a peculiar way as it scooted back, its eyes fixed on the toy in Nan Xing’s hand.
If all went as expected, a scream would echo through the villa within two minutes.
“Ah! You actually ambushed me!”
Nan Ju was speechless.
She remembered that less than an hour ago, Nan Xing had been disdainfully pointing at her dog, and now she was staging a dog-versus-girl battle in her home. It was all very confusing.
“What exactly did you come here for?”
The girl, caught up in her struggle with the dog, froze as the puppy seized the opportunity to climb onto her head. Nan Xing flailed her arms, trying to grab it, but instead, the long hair pulled painfully at her scalp.
“I-I want to work at the company too!” The words Nan Xing had held back for so long finally spilled out, her face flushed. With her height disadvantage, she instinctively raised her chin, only to be weighed down by the puppy on her head, making Nan Ju want to help her lift it.
“Dad said you took half of the family shares, and now the company is yours to manage. I want to go too! Why can you go, and I can’t?”
“Sure.”
Nan Xing continued her one-sided rant: “As a Beta, I’m definitely more suitable to manage the company, and all my friends say I’m a business genius! I’ll definitely create my own black empire in the future.”
She looked at Nan Ju with an air of superiority: “From now on, please call me Princess Huangzu, Zanhua Lishang no Shouki.”
Nan Ju’s steps down the stairs suddenly halted.
“What princess?”
“It’s Princess Huangzu, Zanhua Lishang no Shouki!”
Nan Ju fell silent.
She stared blankly at the dog perched on her head, at the rainbow-haired Nan Xing who looked so full of herself, and thought to herself: This is what’s competing with me for the family fortune?
“Hey, wait a minute, didn’t you just agree to this?” Nan Xing suddenly realized, bouncing excitedly in place, baring her teeth as she hugged the dog that had slipped down from her head, her eyes sparkling as she looked at Nan Ju, cautiously saying, “Sister, I’m your real sister, really!”
Nan Ju couldn’t bear to look at her.
“What kind of job do you want?”
Nan Xing answered quickly: “To manage everyone! A relaxed one! Where I can work and play games!”
You could just say you want to be everyone’s boss.
Nan Ju thought to herself, quickly responding, “Fine, but what about your studies? School just started not long ago.”
“Dad said as long as you agree to let me into the company, I can take a break from school.”
Since she couldn’t even get into a good school, that was what their father had said.
Nan Ju had no interest in this father-daughter deal. She snipped a few branches from the begonia in the vase, her tone indifferent: “Well, you can go back now. Leave the dog. Next time, wash your hands before you hug my dog.”
Nan Xing reluctantly placed the puppy on the carpet, turning back three times as she left: “I’m really going now, sister, I’m really going!”
Once she disappeared behind the white walls, Nan Ju didn’t even look up, focusing instead on arranging the begonia she had just brought back that morning. After a long while, she muttered to herself.
“Kids must like begonia flowers, right?”
