- Chapter 22 - She is Princess Huang Zuo, the Fractured Feather of Lament
“Is this what you all worked so hard on for a week?”
The mocking voice of a woman lowered her tone, like a nightingale singing in the garden at night, wrapped in strands of cold mist.
“My dog could do better just by stepping on the keyboard.” Nan Ju raised the corner of her mouth, making an extremely infuriating sneer, and with a “thud,” she threw the folder onto the table, scattering a pile of documents on top, startling everyone into silence.
The office chair creaked as a woman with black hair, dressed in a V-neck cross white shirt, heavily sat back down. The ends of her thick, jet-black hair flicked through the air, drawing a small arc before falling back down.
Nan Ju lowered her long eyelashes, the cold mist in her eyes solidifying into a mass, indifferently gazing at the heads bowed in the entire conference room, her tone cold and merciless: “I don’t care if you are seasoned veterans or rookies. If there’s a next time, whoever it is, pack your things and get out. Who designed the Sky Garden project?”
Under the gaze of everyone’s sympathy or amusement, a girl with a short bob and a doll-like face stood up, on the verge of tears.
“It was me, Miss.”
“You’re a Beta?” Nan Ju lifted her eyelids to glance at the overly youthful girl, whose eyes were red and watery, as if she would burst into tears at any moment.
Lin Guoguo, who was indeed about to cry, clutched her fingers, desperately holding back her tears, her legs trembling from fear.
She felt so cowardly; the atmosphere in the conference room was terrifyingly tense, the pressure from the gathered Alphas was overwhelming. Even though everyone was trying to restrain themselves because Nan Ju was present, she could still feel the unrelenting threat.
Because she was an Omega, and a coward at that.
“So, is it okay for you to be in charge of this project?”
The cold, indifferent voice shattered Lin Guoguo’s already shaky psychological defenses, and she helplessly shed tears, slowly realizing what was happening, her mouth opening in a delayed “ah.”
The black-haired Omega who had been watching her softened her eyes into a crescent shape, a smile creeping up to her brows: “Don’t understand? Should I find someone else to do it?”
Only a fool would hand over the project they worked so hard on to someone else!
Lin Guoguo slammed her hand on the table, both excited and urgent: “No! I can do it!”
Nan Ju gave a nonchalant “mm,” waved her hand for her to sit down, and cast a faint glance at the others, none of whom dared to meet her gaze.
The soft, slow voice of the Omega echoed clearly in the conference room, so clear that they felt a chill run down their necks.
“That’s all for now. Submit what needs to be done by the end of the month. I hope you can do better than my dog next time.”
The Omega princess, dressed in black stockings, strutted out in her high heels, while Lin Guoguo slumped in her chair, unable to move for a long time.
A shadow fell beside her as a young girl with long hair rushed over, patting her chest with relief: “You scared me! The princess is so fierce! Is she really an Omega? Guoguo, are you okay? I saw you crying.”
“Fierce? Not at all.”
Lin Guoguo’s eyes were as red as a rabbit’s, clutching her project proposal as she quietly retorted: “I think the princess is really cool.”
She had never seen such a cool Omega.
And so beautiful. Cool and beautiful.

In the CEO’s office.
Nan Ju stood quietly in front of the floor-to-ceiling window. Behind her, a Beta wearing thin-framed glasses and a light gray professional outfit entered with a cup of West Lake Longjing tea, taking a deep breath.
She had been following Nan Ju all day, and the scene of the public humiliation in the conference room still left her feeling as if she had been on a roller coaster ten times, unable to calm down.
The company was about to change.
“Miss, your tea is ready.”
High above, the city was cold and unwelcoming, filled with towering buildings and bustling crowds. Looking down from the floor-to-ceiling window felt like watching small, oddly shaped figures.
Nan Ju fixed her gaze on a small square shape, narrowing her eyes: “Is the parking lot to the north of the company?”
The Beta assistant paused for a moment, carefully placing the tea down without making a sound, and replied unhurriedly: “Yes, that’s an electric vehicle parking lot. In the past two years, many employees have started using electric cars, and the underground parking lot is insufficient.”
Nan Ju turned and walked over to sit down, quickly kicking off her high heels under the table, taking a sip from her cup before looking up at her new assistant.
“You’re a Beta, right? What’s your name?”
The female assistant nervously adjusted her glasses, speaking in a formal tone: “Nian Gao.”
“?”
The Beta named Nian Gao met Nan Ju’s puzzled gaze, her face flushing red and white with embarrassment, unable to help but push her glasses up again to explain: “My name is really Nian Gao.”
“Oh, that’s interesting. I remember there were supposed to be two assistants; where’s the other one?”
Since she was an Omega, the company would first eliminate Alphas when selecting personal assistants. Most Omegas had soft personalities and were not physically suited for the role. Not knowing Nan Ju’s preferences, they had left two slots open, one for a male Beta and one for a female Beta.
When asked about her colleague, Nian Gao’s blush faded somewhat: “He had a family matter and took leave; he’ll be back to work tomorrow.”
After saying that, she secretly glanced at Nan Ju, feeling a bit anxious. The princess didn’t seem as fierce as before; she shouldn’t be angry about this, right? Originally, it was a Sunday, not a workday, and everyone had been called in suddenly; otherwise, there wouldn’t have been so many new faces in the meeting.
Nan Ju was indeed not angry.
“It’s fine if he comes tomorrow. What’s his name?”
“Mi Fan.”
Just as Nan Ju was checking her phone for messages, she looked up at the mention of the name, her expression one of disbelief.
“What did you say?”
Mi Fan, Nian Gao, Guoguo—was her company holding a tea party every day?
“His name is Mi Fan, Miss.” Nian Gao felt increasingly awkward as she spoke, her head involuntarily lowering. With the two assistants’ names together, no one would believe it was unintentional.
But she really hadn’t meant it…
“The parking lot to the north has always had plans for demolition. Once we buy the building across the street by the end of this year, it can be torn down.”
The quick-witted Beta assistant swiftly changed the subject. Nan Ju felt a bit dazed and followed her lead to ask, “Do you commute in an electric car too?”
The other nodded.
“Yes.”
“The parking lot should have self-service payment equipment, right? Stop it, and have someone set up a table and a chair without a back at the entrance of the parking lot, along with a small sunshade and a broken fan.”
The female assistant, reluctant to mention names…
How strange; the princess’s request sounded odd.
She cautiously observed Nan Ju, who appeared quite pleased, and curiously asked, “If we stop the equipment, will we need to find a dedicated cashier?”
Nan Ju happily tapped her fingertips on the glass cup, watching the tea leaves float up with a shallow smile: “No need; she’ll report tomorrow. No need to prepare a work badge; her salary will be settled daily at the intern rate. I’ll just take her to her post in my name.”
So she was a relative, the assistant understood, pulling out a small notebook to jot it down: “Okay, what’s her name?”
“Her name is Huang Zuo, the Fractured Feather of Lament.”
The female assistant was left in a daze.
What did she say?
