I’m Allergic to Pheromones - Chapter 63
“Are you afraid of me, sister?”
The girl was dressed in simple white clothes, her slender frame wrapped in thin flesh, her brows and eyes icy cold. No matter how you looked at her, she fit the archetype of someone “aloof and unfeeling.”
Nan Ju instinctively bit down on the shrimp meat brought to her lips, her teeth grazing it lightly before her tongue pushed it away. The next second, her cheeks flushed as if scorched by fire.
Bai Cha slowly withdrew her finger, lowered her head, and wiped away the tooth marks with a tissue, showing no trace of resistance. Before Nan Ju could react, she asked this question.
The hazy veil between them was lifted by the wind. Sunlight, fragmented and golden, streamed through the transparent window into the room. Nan Ju swallowed the shrimp in her mouth, her mind reeling.
She shouldn’t have come down to eat this takeout qaq
Bai Cha wiped the juices from her hand, then took a wet wipe to carefully clean the remnants between her fingers before reaching out to take Nan Ju’s right hand and wiping it for her.
The soft touch made Nan Ju want to pull away, but she was caught.
The girl’s fingers were slightly shorter than hers but more delicate. Perhaps due to differentiation and adulthood, with nutrition unable to keep up with her growth, Bai Cha wasn’t as plump as other girls her age. Instead, she was lean and cool, like a perfect clothes hanger.
Though her grip wasn’t strong, Nan Ju didn’t dare move. She stole glances at Bai Cha’s calm, lowered eyes and stayed silent.
Don’t move, don’t move—her little kitten was genuinely triggered now.
Nan Ju’s thoughts were a mess. She didn’t dare dwell on Bai Cha’s earlier words, forcibly suppressing them as she frowned and watched her meticulously clean each of her fingers.
Her docility eased some of the gloom in Bai Cha’s heart.
“Why do you avoid me and not dare to look at me?” Bai Cha questioned bluntly, her pale eyes fixed intently on Nan Ju, clear and bright like the moon over a mountain.
Nan Ju looked at her, then couldn’t quite meet her gaze. She withdrew her now-clean fingers and mumbled, “I’m not avoiding you.”
She had already looked at Bai Cha several times—it wasn’t that she didn’t dare.
Nan Ju lowered her head and took a sip of the fruit tea on the table. The weather was hot, and the chilled tea had warmed slightly, leaving a lingering sweet-and-sour taste in her mouth that eventually turned cloying.
She chewed on a bit of fruit pulp, tasting the faint aroma of white peach.
Bai Cha was still waiting for a proper answer. For some reason, she suddenly asked, “Sister, have you never been with someone during your heat cycle?”
“Cough, cough—”
A violent coughing fit erupted. Nan Ju’s face burned crimson, her eyes tearing up, the corners tinged a beautiful red.
Flustered and furious, like a punctured balloon, she couldn’t hold back her temper.
“B-been with someone? Where did you learn that kind of language!”
Bai Cha remained unruffled, even patting Nan Ju’s back to soothe her. She replied matter-of-factly, “During a heat cycle, the only way to relieve the need is to have s3x with someone. That’s what the physiology textbook says. That day, sister only used her hands—was it because you didn’t know how?”
Nan Ju was speechless.
What kind of morally bankrupt era is this? An eighteen-year-old just barely of age casually drops R-rated topics without even blushing???
“Who says I don’t know how!” She instinctively retorted defensively, then immediately realized how ambiguous that sounded and quickly added, “You’re not allowed to learn this.”
Helping Bai Cha through her heat cycle had been a last resort—like forcing a duck onto a perch. Though she’d had no ulterior motives or taken advantage of the situation, the aftermath left her feeling intensely awkward.
Now that Bai Cha brought it up, the embarrassment became unbearable. She’d always positioned herself as the responsible elder, yet they’d unexpectedly crossed into such intimate territory. The more she thought about it, the more shame burned through her.
Maybe she should follow Eight Million’s example and jump into a pond to prove her innocence.
Nan Ju sighed inwardly, carefully choosing her words to maintain a calm demeanor as she explained to Bai Cha: “I’ve never done it with anyone else, nor helped anyone else through their heat. Every adult Omega has these physiological needs. If you refuse suppressant injections, you’ll just have to endure it a while longer. Research on inhibitors is showing promising progress.”
At this point, Nan Ju felt profoundly grateful for her earlier insistence on funding inhibitor research—otherwise, she’d be wishing the ground would swallow her whole right now.
This world lacked any medication to suppress heats. She’d invested heavily in research primarily for her own peace of mind, fearing the day she might suddenly develop pheromones like some bizarre transformation after being assimilated into this world.
After bringing Bai Cha home, that motivation had grown stronger.
Nan Ju understood clearly: unlike herself—an outsider who’d transmigrated into this novel world with socialist-era moral compass still intact—Bai Cha was the true anomaly here.
She was an Omega who despised all Omegas and Alphas alike, unable to accept becoming a creature enslaved by pheromones.
Nan Ju had witnessed Bai Cha’s frenzied attempts to claw out her scent gland during a dysregulated differentiation phase. Had she not intervened, the girl might have torn it out with her bare hands.
Gland removal severely impacted bodily functions and lifespan. Unless by accident, the procedure was legally prohibited.
Yet the more restrictions existed, the more Nan Ju’s heart ached for her little kitten.
She’d pushed for accelerated research, wanting to provide Bai Cha some security, until that unexpected incident derailed everything.
Some guilt lingered, but shame and awkwardness dominated—personally guiding a girl eight years her junior through sexual needs felt utterly improper, especially since she’d always viewed Bai Cha as a younger sister.
She’s only eighteen! Her birthday was just days ago—still practically a child!
Nan Ju screamed internally. When she looked up, Bai Cha remained composed as ever, those steady eyes fixed on her—for how long, she couldn’t tell.
Her composure wavered slightly.
Battling embarrassment, Nan Ju meticulously explained every physiological aspect of ABO heat cycles she knew, breaking down each detail to prevent further blunt questions about her “experience.” Her fair cheeks flushed repeatedly, the deepening crimson only enhancing her bewitching beauty.
Bai Cha listened attentively, speaking little and only occasionally nodding along with Nan Ju’s words, as if taking it all in.
Nan Ju let out a subtle sigh of relief, her expression softening slightly before she added somewhat sheepishly,
“The short-term suppressants will probably take another two months to prepare, just in time before your semester starts. But since your last heat was… suppressed too harshly, um… if it comes again and you really can’t hold back, you can use your hands. Or, well, other small toys would work too.”
As she spoke, Nan Ju buried her face lower, sipping hard at the last dregs of her fruit tea, her voice growing quieter until it was barely a whisper.
A faint blush spread from her cheeks downward, coloring her ears, her neck, and even the delicate skin below her collarbones in an alluring hue.
Bai Cha watched, her throat bobbing slightly before she murmured, “After suppressing it so harshly last time, I probably won’t be able to hold back.”
“But you just told me not to learn how to do it myself, and I don’t know how to use those toys either. So… when my next heat comes, can I still come to you for help?”
“I must have committed unforgivable sins in my past life to suffer such inhuman torment!”
In the study, Nan Ju paced from the window to the door and back again, sighing and frowning in distress.
She had been in this state for hours, unable to stop the echo of Bai Cha’s question at the dining table from replaying in her mind.
Just thinking about it made her want to jump into the pond immediately!
Even now, she couldn’t understand how she had absentmindedly replied with a “Yes, you can.” The more she thought about it, the more she felt she had been tricked.
Helping once was already unbearably awkward—doing it again, or even multiple times? She’d lose all dignity!
So why was the kitten so insistent on her help?
Nan Ju couldn’t figure it out. She knew Bai Cha’s stubborn nature well. Logically, when it came to something as loathsome as heat cycles, Bai Cha should have preferred handling it alone. Why ask for her assistance?
Frowning, Nan Ju retraced the events since that day and recalled the ill-fated takeout from this afternoon. A fleeting thought crossed her mind, but before she could grasp it, her phone buzzed.
Cheng Fuxue: “Wrapped up filming. Treat me to dinner?”
The superstar was shooting in Huashi, and as a local friend, Nan Ju had no reason not to play host.
After a brief hesitation, she replied:
“Fine. Come pick me up at my place tomorrow.”
