Chapter 1: The Super Common Hero Summoning

Episode 1: Prologue

“—Yeah, this is delicious!”

I’m wandering alone in the forest, munching on a gourd-shaped fruit. Occasionally, I hear unfamiliar howls in the distance and footsteps that shake the ground. But for the most part, I’ve been living quite safely. 

…All of this is thanks to that detestable king. But at this point, it doesn’t really matter anymore. After all, it’s because of him that I’m able to enjoy this free life in another world!

“…Oh, it looks like there’s some delicious fruit over there too.”

As I walk through the forest, avoiding magical beasts, I find the fruit I’m looking for and take it to my mouth.

“…Mm, this is delicious too!”

I wipe the fruit pulp off my mouth with my thumb and look up at the sky.

“But really, what on earth is this? I guess it’s probably this fruit that’s causing it, but I just don’t understand.”

In this world, there exists a concept called “status.” When I say the word “status” out loud, information only I can see appears in front of me like a display screen.

“Status.”

I utter this word for what feels like the hundredth time today and check my own status.

“Name: Mihiro Maki, 18 years old, male. Profession: Appraiser… Appraiser, well that’s fine.”

For someone like me who has devoured light novels, being an Appraiser is a tremendously fortunate profession. While heroes or champions might be thrust into battles, as an Appraiser, I can live a safe life, being able to identify things I don’t know in this world. 

…Well, it’s because of this profession that I’m currently stuck in this forest, but that’s irrelevant right now.

What’s important is my profession. I don’t know if other people’s professions are displayed the same way. I was sent here before I could check. 

But it’s definitely strange.

“There are skill levels and all, so normally that should be displayed too.”

I have two skills: Appraisal and Magic Consumption Halving. And maybe because of that odd display, my Appraisal skill is already at its maximum level of 10/10.

The Magic Consumption Halving skill doesn’t have a level. So I assume it simply halves the consumption, just as it says.

“And as for my abilities… are these high or low? Well, I can tell my Luck is high. But considering that, the others must be low.”

The ability values are divided into six categories: Strength, Endurance, Speed, Magic, Dexterity, and Luck. 

In my case, Strength, Endurance, and Speed are all at 5, Magic and Dexterity are at 10, and only Luck is abnormally high at 100.

“…What’s with that 100? I mean, seriously, 100!”

No matter how many times I look, it’s a number that prompts me to comment. 

However, having 10 in Magic has been very helpful. It seems that using the Appraisal skill requires magic, and using it about five times reduces my magic by 1. 

Without the halving of magic consumption, it would have decreased even more, and in the beginning, I didn’t understand how it worked, so I was running low on magic.

“Still, this is the thing. Even though I’m in the forest and I can find food, I should really aim for a place where people are… but it means passing through areas filled with magical beasts.”

I know where I’m headed. 

However, for someone like me who has no means of fighting, it will be a life-or-death situation, so I need to prepare myself. 

There’s no one else in this forest besides me, and every morning I wake up, I wonder what I should do.

“They said Appraisers are a beginner class, but why is this text displayed?”

I glance back at the profession section.

[Profession: Appraiser (Divine Eye)]

…Right, it’s displayed with (Divine Eye) in parentheses.

“This is definitely strange, right?”

For the past few days, I’ve been living while thinking about that repeatedly.
