Episode 15: The Super Common Hero Summoning 13
We continued our discussion even after finishing lunch.
The first topic I brought up was the common knowledge of this world.
We talked about how a year, a month, and a day work, as well as the changing of the seasons.
As a result, I learned that the time structure is almost the same as in Japan, with a year consisting of 360 days, a month having 30 days, and a day being 24 hours.
Seasons change every three months, cycling through spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Currently, it’s spring, apparently.
However, the Forest of Demons is said to be a place where the world’s logic doesn’t apply.
“According to legends, there is a special space deep in the Forest of Demons where you can’t feel the seasons at all. It’s said to be hotter than midsummer all year round and colder than midwinter.”
…Yeah, this really is an alternate world. There are places where the common sense of Japan doesn’t apply.
The next common knowledge that piqued my interest was about the currency.
Yesterday, I was curious about the currency when I appraised a vase. It turns out there isn’t much difference from Japan; it just changes from yen to zens.
The average monthly income varies by country. But in the Adelreed Kingdom, it’s between 200,000 and 300,000 zens.
With such little difference, it seems that as long as I earn enough, managing money shouldn’t be a problem.
“The last point is about the global positioning or the relationships between countries.”
At this point, Alicia stood up and brought a large map that covered half the table.
“This is the Adelreed Kingdom, and right next to it is the Forest of Demons.”
“Wow, this place is relatively central in the world. And this is the Forest of Demons… Is it just me, or is the Forest of Demons way too big!?”
Upon closer inspection, what I thought was the central Adelreed Kingdom is actually on the edge of the world, with the Forest of Demons occupying a third of the map.
Given that they are holding back the magical beasts overflowing from such a vast forest, the title of a fortress city isn’t just for show.
“With such a wide area, the place I was transferred to must have really been an entrance.”
“I believe so. It’s said that only a fraction of the Forest of Demons has been surveyed. So they likely couldn’t set up a teleportation magic circle further inside.”
With those powerful magical beasts appearing, it’s unlikely that even an otherworlder at level 1 with a beginner class could survive at the entrance.
“And… this may bring back some unpleasant memories for Maki-san, but I should let you know anyway.”
“What is it?”
After hesitating a little, Alicia pointed to a country located on the opposite side of the Adelreed Kingdom.
“…No way, is that…?”
“Yes. This is the country that summoned you, Shriden Kingdom.”
…Wait, wait, wait! Isn’t the Adelreed Kingdom pretty far from the Shriden Kingdom? There are at least two other countries in between!
“Y-You mean I was transferred this far away? Can it even be done?”
“Teleportation connects one space to another, so the distance in between doesn’t seem to matter.”
“However, teleportation magic consumes a massive amount of magical power. It should only be usable by those with a high level in advanced classes.”
Glenn explained teleportation while Alicia elaborated on teleportation magic.
It doesn’t really concern me. But with such a distance, I probably won’t have a chance to meet my classmates again.
“…At least, I wanted to talk to her.”
I was thinking of my childhood friend, Madoka.
I’m only worried about Madoka, who was with me throughout elementary, middle, and high school… Oh, and Akigase-sensei too. Those two were the only ones worried about me.
“…Are you okay, Maki-san?”
“Huh? Ah, I’m fine. I was just getting worried about the others.”
“By the way, Maki, how many people were summoned during the Hero Summoning?”
“Uh, since we’re talking about students and teachers… Including me, there were thirty-one people. Speaking of which, I wanted to ask too, is Hero Summoning something that happens frequently?”
I thought that if people were summoned so frequently, there might be no one left in my original world. But it seems that’s not the case.
“No, it actually requires an enormous amount of magical power, even more than teleportation magic. I’ve also heard that precious materials are necessary, so it probably can’t be done so easily.”
“…Well, I suppose that’s true.”
“Moreover, Hero Summoning comes with risks.”
“Risks?”
I only glanced at the place where I was summoned, but it didn’t look dangerous to me.
“It’s not something that will happen right away. It’s more of a future concern.”
“A future concern?”
“Yeah. Not all summoned otherworlders might be good people, you know.”
…Ah, I see what they’re getting at.
“You mean there’s a possibility that a powerful otherworlder could betray us.”
At my words, the two nodded silently.
It seems that the rate at which their abilities increase is higher than that of the people in this world. And if they level up to become the strongest, there may be those who want to hold power.
“In fact, there are countries ruled by people who have otherworlders as their ancestors.”
…See, I told you so.
