I’m currently deep in the forest. But the one person I can rely on, Ricott-san, is…

“Ricott-san, please wake up!”

“……….”

“…Seriously, please wake up!”

After the intense battle with the Slimy Insect, Ricott-san was knocked unconscious. She had been swept away by the slimy goo. I don’t know if her being like this is some kind of delayed reaction to seeing something so grotesque. But for me right now, this is a life-or-death situation.

“…There are no monsters nearby, but there are some further away.”

It seems it hasn’t noticed us yet. But once it does, it’ll come charging straight at us. And why? Because that monster is a Bullfang.

“Ricott-san, seriously, wake up!”

“……….”

“…Sigh. What am I supposed to do?”

At first, I thought I could carry her on my back. But the slimy goo is all over her, making her too slippery to lift. If I could wipe off the slime, I could carry her. But touching her skin without permission… Yeah, no. That would feel really inappropriate, especially with all the slime making it even worse.

So I need her to wake up, but there’s no sign of her stirring at all.

“And Glenn is… wait, he’s leaving?”

As I kept an eye on the location of the monsters, I also used my Appraisal skill to check on Glenn’s whereabouts. At first, it looked like he was trying to find us. But now that he’s noticed the nearby monster, he’s retreating and heading back toward Granzawall.

“Maybe he’s gone to get help?”

Since it’s his prank that put us in this situation, I’d like to think he’s doing his part to help us out.

“…Uh-oh, this isn’t good. A monster’s getting closer.”

I’d like to believe the slime is masking our scent to some extent. But a monster is slowly, yet surely, approaching. And it’s none other than the Bullfang I was worried about.

“How much of a chance do I have against a fully healthy Bullfang?”

Yesterday, I couldn’t even lay a finger on the Bullfang that Ricott-san had already damaged. If the sound of fighting wakes Ricott-san up, that’d be great. But even if she does wake up, with the slime on her, she probably won’t even be able to hold her sword. So I have to buy time.

“I wish the Appraiser (Divine Eye) had some kind of special power… But I guess that’s asking for too much.”

As I muttered that, there was a new line of text I had never seen before. It appeared on the status screen of the Bullfang, which had been displayed the whole time.

“What’s this? …No way. Is this a strategy guide?”

The Bullfang still hasn’t noticed us. So, I hurriedly read through what was written.

“A 100% success rate… if I sacrifice Ricott-san and run away? That’s not an option!”

I couldn’t help but blurt out a protest at what I was reading. 

The Bullfang had heard me. It stopped for a moment and then started approaching cautiously, heading straight for us.

“It noticed us! What other strategies are there?”

The first method listed involved using Ricott-san as a decoy. But lower down the list, there were other options with lower success rates. However, they all involved either sacrificing Ricott-san to defeat the Bullfang or using her as a shield while fighting to make her wake up. But none of which aligned with what I wanted.

“Is there seriously no way to save both me and Ricott-san?”

As I scrolled further down, I finally found a method that offered a slim chance for both of us to survive.

“…This… ugh… If I mess up, I’ll be the first to die.”

Naturally, since it’s a plan where we both survive, the method involves me defeating the Bullfang…

“Success rate: 25%.”

…But I have no other choice. I can’t just abandon Ricott-san here.

I steeled myself, stood up, and gripped my one-handed sword tightly.

“…Ricott-san, please wake up soon.”

Murmuring under my breath, I started walking toward the Bullfang.
