Episode 27: The Super Common Hero Summoning 24
Even though our scent was disguised, there was no way to mask the sound of footsteps. So I hid myself after advancing a bit. However, the Bullfang seemed to realize I was hiding, as it cautiously observed its surroundings.
And then, I deliberately jumped out in front of the Bullfang.
“Take this, you bastard!”
“Fugo!?”
The Bullfang let out a weird cry. It was probably startled by my sudden attack. And I swung my weapon with all my might.
Thud!
…Yeah, I knew this was going to happen!
“FUGOOOOOO!”
“Uwaaaaaa!!”
I immediately turned and bolted. My Appraisal skill provided me with an escape route, so I followed it. Though whether my body could actually keep up was entirely on me.
“Ugh! Haa, haa, haa, haa… This is tough!”
I barely avoided tripping over a tree root sticking out of the ground, but I managed to keep my feet moving forward.
“FUGOOOOOO!”
Meanwhile, the Bullfang, thanks to its huge body, was getting stuck between the trees as it chased after me. It couldn’t quite catch up, and its frustration grew. It made it roar angrily in my direction.
“Roar all you want; I’m just gonna keep running!”
Honestly, the combination of the roars and the sound of trees crashing down behind me was enough to make my spirit falter multiple times. I’m not exactly built for stamina, so just running like this is already exhausting—I really want to just stop!
“But if I stop now, Ricott-san will be in danger!”
If it were just me, I might have given up already. But now, Ricott-san’s life depends on me… probably! So, I absolutely cannot give up!
“You’ve got to be kidding meeeeeee!”
I kept slipping through the trees while hearing the enormous sound of them crashing behind me. Occasionally, pieces of the trees flew towards me, but I ignored them and just kept running.
Finally, the last instruction from my Appraisal skill appeared before my eyes.
“This is it! It’s finally over!”
I arrived at the designated location. With a shout, I leaped forward like I was doing the long jump. And as soon as I landed, the Appraisal skill displayed a celebratory message:
ೀ⋆[Mission Complete!]˚✧˖°
(๑•̀ヮ•́)૭ LET’S GO!
.
.
.
.
.
“FUGOOOOOO!”
“Yeah, no, it’s definitely *not* complete yeeeeeettt!”
I shouted at the Appraisal skill in frustration, then turned around and readied my sword. The Bullfang, with a furious expression, was growing larger as it charged straight toward me.
I gulped and braced myself—when suddenly…
Slip!
“Fungoooo!?”
“Yes! It slipped!”
The area where I had lured the Bullfang was coated in the slimy residue left behind by the Slimy Insect. The Bullfang, with no hesitation, stepped right into it and went flying, crashing onto its back in the most spectacular way possible. It slid right up to me, exposing its belly—the only soft part of its otherwise tough hide.
“This is the ‘real’ mission complete!”
“F-Fungoooo!”
Without a second thought, I thrust my sword into its exposed belly. Unlike its tough back, the blade sank in easily. And with the help of the Appraisal skill, I struck exactly where its heart was, killing it in one blow.
“Fugo… gooo… oo…”
“Haa, haa, haa... Did I… win?”
I stared at the now-motionless Bullfang, my legs finally giving out as I collapsed on the spot. Sitting there, I realized just how massive the Bullfang really was.
“This thing… was towering over me.”
It was huge, and thick. If it had charged at me, I would’ve died instantly.
“Oh yeah, Ricott-san… She’s safe, thank goodness.”
There were no monsters near Ricott-san. And Glenn, who had gone back to Granzawall, had already returned to the forest. He was likely with some soldiers or adventurers.
“Aah, I’m so tired… I’d like to check everything out, but… I can’t really think right now…”
My body completely gave out, and I collapsed onto the ground. Overwhelmed by exhaustion, I lost consciousness.
