Episode 29: The Super Common Hero Summoning 25
Mmm… hehehe….
“—…I can’t eat anymore…”
““““Are you okay!?””””
“Huh?”
When I opened my eyes, the faces of Alicia, Glenn, and Ricott-san were peering down at me. Why were these three by my bedside…? Wait, why was I even asleep? I was sure I had gone into the forest to level up…
“Maki-san, do you know who you are? Do you recognize us?”
“Uh, yeah. I’m Mihiro Maki, and you’re Alicia, Glenn, and Ricott-san… Ri-Ricott-san!”
“…Mihiro, I’m really sorry—”
“I’m just glad you’re okay! You weren’t hurt, were you? How’s your body? Any problems?”
I had left Ricott-san behind in the forest, even though it was to save her. She must’ve been shocked when she woke up alone. She might have even panicked, realizing her protectee was missing. I never meant to put her through that, but… Ah, now I’m finally remembering what happened.
“I’m really sorry, Ricott-san. I didn’t mean to leave you behind, and I was planning to come back to rescue you. But I was completely exhausted. And after I defeated the Bullfang, I passed out immediately. Seriously, I’m so glad you’re okay!”
“…Mihiro, that’s what *I* should be saying, you know?”
(Note: Again, this should be a different small font in my docs)
“Huh? Did you say something?”
“Hehe, I’m glad, Ricott-chan.”
“I knew Maki would forgive you, but I didn’t expect him to not let you get a word in.”
“Huh? Forgive who, for what?”
I didn’t understand what they were talking about. I was the one being protected, so of course I should be thanking her. What does “forgive” even mean in this context?
“…Mihiro!”
“Y-Yes!”
“Despite being assigned as your guard, I lost my cool in fear of the Slimy Insects, panicked, and passed out. Worst, I had to be rescued! This was gross negligence on my part, and I’m prepared to face the consequences!”
“…C-Consequences?”
No, no, what is she talking about? Ricott-san didn’t do anything wrong. In fact, despite her fear of the Slimy Insects, she fought bravely. I don’t have any complaints about her at all. If anyone deserves criticism, it’s someone else.
“There’s no need to punish Ricott-san. More importantly—Glenn?”
“Hahaha… It’s me, isn’t it?”
“Of course! You knew Ricott-san was terrified of the Slimy Insects, and you still made her fight them! If it wasn’t me in that situation, we’d be dead for sure!”
If I hadn’t had my Appraiser (Divine Eye) ability, I wouldn’t have made it through. I was only level 1. And even if I’d had any other profession, I wouldn’t have been able to defeat the Bullfang, and we would’ve been killed instead.
Now that I think about it, Glenn really put us in a terrifying situation!
“I’m really, truly sorry about that! I’ve already apologized to Ricott over and over again!”
“As you should! Even if you want someone to overcome their fears, there are better ways to go about it. You need to think more carefully about the situation before acting!”
“Maki-san is absolutely right. This time, both of you survived, and no harm was done. But if anything had happened, you would’ve been fully responsible, Glenn.”
“…I was reckless. I regret it.”
Yeah, he seems genuinely remorseful, so I guess I’ll let it go this time. After all, Glenn wasn’t acting with ill intent; he was trying to consider both me and Ricott.
“…N-Next time, I’ll play a safer prank—”
“You still don’t get it, you idiot!!”
“I-I’m kidding! I’m kidding!”
“Glenn!”
“…If Glenn ever asks for my help again, I’m never taking the job!”
“Wait, Ricott, I was joking! I’m really sorry!”
“I don’t care anymore!”
While I was inwardly amazed at how they could make such a ruckus right next to someone who had just woken up, the noise actually felt somewhat comforting.
“By the way, how long was I asleep? Like, a whole day?”
“Maki-san, you were out for three full days.”
“Three days, huh, that’s quite a—wait, THREE DAYS!?”
My loud reaction made the two people who had been making all the commotion turn to look at me.
“…I was asleep for that long?”
“Yes, and we were really worried about you. Ricott-chan came to check on you every day, too.”
“…Well, I mean, it’s my responsibility after all.”
“So that’s what happened… Thank you, Ricott-san. I’m really glad you were my guard.”
“Mihiro… hearing you say that makes me feel really happy.”
Ricott-san didn’t need to feel responsible just because I’d been asleep for three days. Knowing she came to visit every day made me feel even more grateful. But what really surprised me was—
“I was asleep for three whole days, and Glenn still had the nerve to joke around—?”
“Uh, well, that was just me trying to lighten the mood?”
“………”
“……I’m really sorry! Please forgive me already!”
Unable to bear my silent glare, Glenn apologized yet again, for what must have been the hundredth time today.
After that, my stomach growled in protest. I had some food and was told to continue resting for the rest of the day. There were things I wanted to check, but that could wait until tomorrow.
For now, my job was to rest.
