Episode 32: The Super Common Hero Summoning 28
However, both Alicia and Glenn refused to approve my suggestion.
“It’s too dangerous!”
“That’s right, Maki-san. Even though your level has gone up, your ability stats are still low. We have no choice but to trust in Captain Ryan and Ricott and wait.”
“But still…”
To be honest, I’m really worried about Ricott-san.
I heard that during the three days I was unconscious, she came to visit me every day. She probably felt responsible the whole time until I woke up.
And now, we’ve received this grim news about the magical beasts’ attack.
While I doubt she thinks she’s protecting me specifically, it’s possible she’s steeling herself to finally be useful in protecting Granzawall.
“…Vil, when did Captain Ryan and Ricott-chan say they’d be back?”
“They’re scheduled to return by this evening.”
“I see. Let’s wait until then. If they don’t return by nightfall, we’ll figure out a plan.”
“Understood!”
The soldier, called Vil, tapped his right fist twice against his left chest and ran off.
“…That should be fine, right? Glenn, Maki-san?”
“…Sorry, nee-san.”
“It’s okay, really. Besides, things might get even busier from now on.”
“That’s true… Alright, I’ll do my part!”
“Thank you. So, Maki-san. I’m sorry, but we’ll have to cancel today’s level grinding.”
“Well, given the situation, it can’t be helped.”
I wasn’t concerned at all, so I responded immediately. But then, something piqued my curiosity, and I asked Alicia a question.
“Hey, Alicia. What’s the Captain’s name?”
“His name? Captain Ryan’s full name is Ryan Snow.”
“Ryan-san and Ricott-san, huh… got it.”
As I muttered to myself, Alicia and Glenn looked at me with concerned expressions.
But what I was about to do wasn’t particularly dangerous. In fact, it was something I’d done several times before.
The only difference was that the target this time wasn’t food or a magical beast, but specific individuals.
“Appraise: Ryan Snow and Ricott Artist.”
As I activated my Appraisal skill… oh, there it is.
Ricott-san is level 15, and Ryan-san is… level 30!
“Ryan-san is crazy strong!”
His stats are mostly in the 90s, and his Strength is over 100.
“…But what’s this ‘Silver Knight’ anyway?”
“…M-Maki-san?”
“M-Maki, are you saying you can appraise even the Captain?”
“Yeah, seems like I can. Is there a problem with that?”
Why are they looking so surprised?
Appraising people is just what it sounds like, right? Is this really something to be shocked about?
It seems like they’re amazed that I was able to appraise Ryan-san. But is this “Silver Knight” some kind of a unique profession?
“I just tried it, and it worked. Isn’t that normal? Like when I appraise magical beasts.”
“…Normally, it’s impossible to appraise someone of a much higher level.”
“Maki, your level is still 2, right? It only went up by one, right?”
“Yeah, but… well, it worked, so there’s no point in overthinking it. Besides, if I can’t appraise higher-leveled beings, then I wouldn’t have been able to appraise the magical beasts in the Forest of Demons either.”
I said that with a laugh, but their expressions remained stiff.
Still, being able to appraise meant that I could confirm both Ryan-san and Ricott-san were safe for now.
“The indicator showing their location is moving, so I think they’re traveling through the Forest of Demons. For now, it seems they’re safe.”
“…Maki, did you appraise them just to check that?”
“Well, yeah. It doesn’t take much magic power. And if need be, I could even keep monitoring them for a while.”
“Maki-san, you really are beyond extraordinary.”
Whether or not I’m extraordinary, I won’t know until I see other special-class professions. But right now, I’m glad my Appraisal ability is “beyond extraordinary.”
“Let’s keep an eye on things until tonight for now. Like I mentioned earlier, I’ll keep using my Appraisal skill to check on their condition regularly.”
“…Thank you so much. If anything happens, will you inform me immediately? I’d like to take action right away.”
“Got it. Glenn, are you feeling a bit more at ease now?”
Even if it’s just for the time being, Ricott-san is safe. So Glenn doesn’t need to feel guilty.
In fact, right now, he should be focusing on supporting Alicia with whatever he can.
“Yeah… thank you, Maki. I thought I’d convinced myself earlier. But after hearing what you said, I feel even calmer now.”
“That’s good to hear. If there’s anything I can do to help, just let me know.”
“…I’m counting on you, Maki.”
“Leave it to me.”
I responded with the biggest smile I could muster. And while Glenn’s smile was a bit stiff, he managed to return one.
