Episode 35: The Super Common Hero Summoning 31
It was only natural for me to be surprised. But even Glenn was panicking as he tried to persuade Alicia.
“N-No, no way, Sister! What if something happens to you? Who will handle the duties of the lord of Granzawall then?”
“I’ll leave that to you, Glenn. You’d probably do a better job than me.”
“I can’t do that!”
Alicia and Glenn were arguing back and forth. But isn’t there a more fundamental problem here?
“Um, Alicia, can you even fight? I heard your profession is a Mage, but isn’t that a lower class profession?”
“Exactly! She’s a lower class; there’s no way she can be useful in the Forest of Demons!”
“True, but my level is 20, which is higher than Ricott-chan’s.”
“Le-Level 20!?”
I was surprised to learn that her level was higher than expected. After all, Ricott-san, being a soldier, probably faced monsters more often. So I thought she’d have a higher level. But Alicia’s was even higher.
“…Alicia, were you a bit of a wild child growing up?”
“Who knows? But with level 20, I should be able to manage as long as I focus on self-defense.”
“Even so, that doesn’t change the fact that it’s still dangerous…”
Glenn was still protesting, but his voice was getting quieter. Maybe Alicia is the kind of person who never changes her mind once she’s decided something.
In that case, no matter what I say, she’s probably going to insist on coming along.
“Alicia, are you really going to join the mission?”
“Of course. The people of Granzawall are in danger. As their leader, it’s my duty to rise to the occasion.”
“There are monsters around the entrance of the Forest of Demons with levels ranging from 50 to 60. It might sound strange coming from someone like me, who’s only level 2. But with a lower class profession at level 20, you could be killed in a single blow.”
“I’m not going there to die. I’m going to save our people and return alive, so please rest assured.”
“But still, saying something like ‘please rest assured’ won’t really cut it…”
“Don’t worry!”
…Yep, she’s definitely stubborn.
I sighed and glanced at Glenn. But it looked like he had also given up on trying to persuade her.
Now, it seemed like it would be up to me to make sure Alicia and Vil-san didn’t die while guiding them safely to where Ricott-san and Ryan-san were.
“Fine. But you absolutely have to follow my instructions, okay? My Appraiser (Divine Eye) ability seems to also show success rates for strategies.”
“…Success rates?”
“Yes. Thanks to that, I was able to defeat the Bullfang.”
I then explained in detail how I managed to take down the Bullfang. I even mentioned how the initial strategy suggested sacrificing Ricott-san for a high success rate, which made both of them look at me in disbelief.
However, when I explained that the skill had also suggested a way to save both Ricott-san and me, even if it had a lower success rate, they expressed surprise and admiration.
“So, we can use this ability to figure out a way to save the Captain and Ricott-chan while ensuring our own survival?”
“Yes, but only if you follow my instructions exactly. If you act differently, the success rate will change. And there are other uncertainties to consider.”
“Such as?”
“I’ve only used this method once, during the Bullfang fight. So it’s not fully tested. If something unexpected happens, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to adapt quickly enough.”
Even if we follow the instructions perfectly, there’s no guarantee we’ll survive. That’s why the success rates are shown—because there’s always a risk of failure.
But on top of that, if something unforeseen occurs, there’s no telling how the ability will respond.
“So, that’s why I want you to stay behind in Granzawall—”
“I’m definitely going! No matter what anyone says, I’m coming along!”
“…There’s no convincing her.”
I scratched my head, realizing I had no choice but to give up on trying to dissuade her.
Glenn seemed to have accepted it as well. He resigned himself to prepare for the mission by confirming the duties he’d handle as the acting lord in Alicia’s absence.
(As for Ricott-san and the others… they’re still barely moving. If one of them is injured, we need to hurry. If there’s a monster nearby with a keen sense of smell, it might find them even if they’re hiding, and it could already be too late for treatment.)
As soon as their handover was done, I would need to join up with Vil-san and discuss the plan for tomorrow.
I’d probably have to explain my abilities as well, but saving lives takes priority.
“Thank you for waiting, Maki-san.”
Alicia was ready and called out to me. I then turned to look at Glenn.
“Everyone will come back safely, so don’t worry and wait for us.”
“Thank you, Maki. I’m counting on you to keep everyone safe!”
“Leave it to me! Alicia, let’s go!”
“Yes!”
With that, Alicia and I hurried towards the barracks.
