Episode 40: The Super Common Hero Summoning 36
Now, one thing I was curious about was the materials from the magical beasts.
While Ricott-san had disassembled the Bullfang she defeated and brought it back with her, we didn’t have the time for that this time.
If we left unnecessary body parts lying around, other magical beasts would be drawn to the meat, so it was normal to burn it. But… honestly, it feels wasteful.
As I was thinking this, Alicia approached the corpse of the magical beast and brought her magical bag closer. Then—
“Whoa!”
“Hehe, surprised, were you?”
“…It really is sucking it in.”
The opening of the magic bag, being a waist pouch, was very small and not large enough to contain a magical beast.
I was wondering how it would fit when, with a sound like a vacuum cleaner, it went “suuuuuuu” and the beast disappeared entirely inside.
“Doesn’t the shape of what’s inside change at all?”
“It’s fine. When you take it out, it returns to the shape it had when it was put inside. See?”
As she said this, Alicia took out the King Bear she had just stored.
Its form was completely unchanged. I realized again just how convenient this bag was.
“Well then, let’s hurry and move.”
Following Vil-san’s words, the King Bear was returned to the magic bag once more.
“Understood. This way, please.”
I once again led the way as we headed toward the Forest of Demons.
The entrance to the Forest of Demons came into view.
I instructed them to stop for a moment, but they both halted on their own.
“…It’s huge.”
“…I never thought I’d see it with my own eyes.”
The magical beast that had shocked both Vil-san and Alicia was the very Dragon that had breathed fire at me.
When I Appraised it, it obviously had a proper name.
“That’s a Queen Dragon.”
““Q-Queen Dragon?!””
Oh, it seems like a seriously dangerous magical beast.
“…Dragons have hierarchies as well. I won’t go into detail, but the Queen is the second highest rank among Dragons.”
Second highest? That’s a super dangerous magical beast!
“…W-We absolutely cannot fight that. It’s level 80, after all.”
“No, if it’s a Dragon, you should run even if it’s level 1.”
“It’s said that a level 1 Dragon is equivalent to a level 10 human. Well, there’s always a parent nearby when a Dragon is newly born, so we can’t get close anyway.”
Alicia added this extra information, but I had no desire to get near a Dragon. So I decided to quietly keep that knowledge in the back of my mind.
“If the Dragon takes off from here, we’ll be entering the Forest of Demons. There won’t be any magical beasts beyond this point, so we can run through at full speed.”
After my explanation, there was a period of silence. But finally, the moment arrived.
“…It’s taking off!”
As the Dragon flapped its wings widely, a powerful wind rushed toward us, even though it was quite a distance away.
I braced myself, digging my feet in to avoid being blown away. The gigantic body, which was hundreds of times larger than a human, lifted off and flew deeper into the Forest of Demons.
“…Alright, let’s go!”
When I signaled, the two of them stood up with startled expressions.
Ricott-san and Ryan-san were—huh?
“W-Wait a moment!”
“What’s wrong, Maki-san?”
…Oh man, seriously?!
“We’re changing plans! The two of them—are moving!”
As I said this, the display from my Appraisal skill suddenly glitched, and the information was completely updated.
“Damn it! It seems the lack of verification has come back to bite us!”
But I couldn’t dwell on that now.
The success rate was still at 10%, so we hadn’t failed… I hoped.
Looking towards the new strategy, I took off running without worrying about my own safety.
“This way!”
“Are you sure that’s the right way?”
“Please trust me!”
Vil-san was probably feeling anxious about whether he could trust me. I couldn’t blame him, as I didn’t have confidence in my own profession either.
However, there wasn’t time for careful consideration in front of the Forest of Demons.
“Alicia!”
“I’m going! Vil, let’s trust Maki-san for now!”
“…Understood!”
“Thank you!”
Even though I felt I shouldn’t be doing this, I continued on without stopping.
(This means I need to tell Vil-san about my profession soon.)
As I thought about this, I arrived at the nostalgic Forest of Demons.
