Episode 101: A Life in Another World that is Far from Free 39
As I shared the methods for acquiring the newly discovered skills with Dietrich-sama and His Majesty, before I realized it, it had become quite late at night.
Eventually, His Majesty was led away by someone who looked like a minister. And even Dietrich-sama was given a bit of a scolding.
“Hmph!”
That minister, while departing, gave me a mocking snort.
…Did I do something wrong?
“I apologize, Mihiro-sama.”
“Huh? Oh, it’s fine. I mean, I was hogging the time of both His Majesty and Chancellor-sama after all.”
“He’s not a bad person, but he tends to be tough on younger individuals.”
“Younger people? …So that means he was tough on you too, Dietrich-sama?”
“…Yes, back in the day.”
So that minister even had issues with Dietrich-sama, huh?
“I think he was frustrated that someone as young as me got promoted to chancellor so suddenly.”
I get it. That Minister looked to be around 50 or so.
“By the way, do you know how Yuria’s training is going?”
Today was all about defeating the Level Slimes, discovering the skill acquisition methods, and suffering from magic depletion. I had no idea about anything else.
I figured I’d ask to check on the situation, and unsurprisingly, Dietrich-sama was well-informed.
“Yes. According to the Knight Commander, she’s already strong enough to hold her own against captain-level opponents.”
“Whoa! Captain-level? That means she’s gotten really strong… But does that include combat against other people?”
Yuria’s biggest issue is her lack of experience in combat against humans. Whether she could kill her classmates in a real fight is still uncertain. She might only realize her resolve in that moment, but getting used to combat now is crucial.
“The Knight Commander hasn’t given full approval yet, but it seems she’s becoming quite proficient in combat against other people.”
“I see. So, she’s not there yet… But it sounds like things are going well.”
Yuria still has some work to do.
Speaking of which, what am I supposed to do after tomorrow?
“Dietrich-sama, what should I do starting tomorrow?”
I’ve finished leveling up, and eating more bananas for Appraisals isn’t really an option. If there’s nothing for me to do, I’d like to check in with the knights and see how Yuria’s training is progressing.
“Will you go leveling up again tomorrow?”
“Huh? Is that alright?”
“Yes. However, this time, His Highness will be joining you.”
“…Excuse me, what?”
Wait, what? It’s not His Majesty, but… what do you mean His Highness?
“Apparently, when His Highness heard about your trip to the Northern Cave, he began closely tracking your activities. After learning about the mass slaughter of Level Slimes, he expressed a desire to join you.”
“…And who exactly shared that information?”
“His Majesty, I’m afraid.”
…That guy! It’s okay since it’s just in my mind, but that guy! Why is he leaking everything?
“What is His Majesty thinking?”
“I apologize once again. But, I believe His Majesty wanted to ask for your help as well.”
“Still, just deciding we’re going together without asking seems a bit much… Wait, did he really want to ask for my help?”
If he had just asked, I might have considered it. Not that I could refuse a royal decree in the first place. If he didn’t ask, maybe something was preventing him.
“The truth is, His Highness has low Luck stat for a member of the royal family, and he wasn’t able to encounter Level Slimes.”
“Really?”
“Yes. Because of that, his level is lower than mine. And it seems to have bothered him for a long time.”
…Isn’t this just a hassle? Well, I can’t refuse, so I’ll go, but it feels like trouble.
“…This won’t lead to any problems, right? No one’s going to hold a grudge against me?”
“I don’t think so. Well, aside from that one person earlier.”
“That one person from earlier… Ah, the minister who came to fetch His Majesty. By the way, what’s that minister’s position?”
If he’s close to His Highness, this might turn into a bigger hassle.
“…He’s His Highness’ assistant.”
“…Excuse me, what?”
It seems like trouble is definitely coming my way.
And that’s how the day came to an end.
…I really don’t want to go leveling up tomorrow.
