Episode 103: A Life in Another World that is Far from Free 40
So, I woke up, but it wasn’t exactly a cheerful awakening.
The reason, of course, was the level-grinding for His Highness.
Since Dietrich-sama had asked me yesterday, there was no way I could refuse. But I wanted to at least sulk about it while I was still alone.
“…Alright, let’s get ready.”
With a small sigh, I got out of bed and started preparing myself. Though my movements were slow.
After finishing getting dressed and doing a light stretch, there was a knock at the door.
“Yeah, yeah, I’m coming,”
I called out casually as I opened the door, where Dietrich-sama stood.
I thought maybe he’d come to get me, but I immediately realized that wasn’t the case.
His expression was far too serious.
“…Did something happen?”
“Yes. The first battle between the Kingdom of Shriden and the Kingdom of Rodgrul has ended much sooner than expected.”
…So, we’re short on time, huh.
“By the way, who won?”
“Shriden won in a landslide. According to reports, they didn’t even need to deploy their special-class warriors.”
“So, does that mean Kouya and Arata are still in the capital? Or are they being held in reserve?”
“We’re not sure yet. For now, let’s head to the throne room. His Majesty is waiting for us.”
No point in dawdling here, I guess.
Urged by Dietrich-sama, I left the room and headed to the throne room.
Once inside, I was greeted by a bunch of unfamiliar ministers… Oh, and that one minister who had sneered at me before was here, too.
In the corner, I spotted Alicia and Yuria. But Yuria’s face looked a bit tense.
“I apologize for the delay, Your Majesty.”
“No matter. Let us begin the discussion.”
The meeting started right away, but… wait, why am I standing next to Dietrich-sama?
His Majesty is seated, Dietrich-sama is in front of him, and I’m standing next to Dietrich-sama? What is going on here! The other ministers are standing in rows on either side!
…Well, it’s too late to do anything about it now. I can’t exactly move in the middle of the meeting.
While I silently listened, they discussed how the war between Shriden and Rodgrul would progress.
Everyone predicted Shriden’s victory. But that was only if no other nations intervened.
There was concern about how the northern Hocalidol Kingdom and the eastern Urungal Kingdom would act.
Even though it was assumed we would join the fight, if those two countries made a move, it could divide their forces and reduce our casualties. That’s probably what they’re hoping for.
“As of now, both nations seem to be adopting a wait-and-see approach.”
“I see… But that could change if our troops get closer to the capital of Rodgrul.”
“Yes, if we advance further from the border, the situation could shift.”
“—May I speak, Lord Chancellor?”
The one interrupting was the nagging minister.
“Of course, Viscount Bogle.”
Oh! This guy’s a noble? Wait, are all the ministers nobles?
“Excuse me. I’ve heard that the one standing beside Lord Chancellor is a special class. And the woman waiting in the corner is also said to be one.”
“…They are our guests, you know?”
“I understand that. However, I’ve also heard that His Majesty allowed them to go to the Northern Cave. In that case, shouldn’t they be cooperating with us in this matter as well?”
“…Viscount Bogle, what exactly are you implying?”
This guy really talks in a roundabout way. Is this just how nobles are?
While I was thinking that, Viscount Bogle finally got to the point.
“Would it not be wise to negotiate with Urungal, offering them the aid of these special classes, in exchange for them launching an attack on Shriden?”
He clearly doesn’t like us. He’s probably hoping we’ll be dragged into the war and, if things go well for him, that we’ll die in battle.
But there’s no need for that. We’re planning to storm the capital of Shriden using the teleportation magic circle anyway.
“That’s impossible, Viscount Bogle.”
“Why not? If the Urungal Kingdom attacks, the Shriden Kingdom will be forced to divide its forces. At that point, if our knights launch a surprise attack using the teleportation magic circle, we can secure a guaranteed victory!”
“Mihiro-sama will be using that teleportation magic circle to head to the capital. And Kondō-sama will also be doing the same.”
“What nonsense are you spouting! The task of taking the capital and destroying the Shriden Kingdom should be ours! It’s unacceptable to leave such an important role to some recently arrived special classes!”
…I see. Viscount Bogle hates the idea of anyone outside his own people taking the spotlight.
I’m not sure how much he knows about us, but it wouldn’t be surprising if he was aware that we’re from another world.
After all, I’m pretty close with Alicia, who herself has ancestors from another world.
“Mihiro will assist in the fall of the capital using the teleportation magic circle. This is a final decision.”
“But Your Majesty!”
“It is a final decision… Is that clear?”
“…Understood,”
Viscount Bogle replied bitterly, his frustration evident.
Even as he bowed, I didn’t miss the glare he shot my way.
…Sigh. I have a feeling this is going to be a pain.
