We returned to Granzawall and headed straight for the mansion.  

Madoka must have heard us. As soon as we entered, she came downstairs from the second floor and immediately spoke up.  

“Maki-kun! Um, I know it’s a lot to ask, but I have a request. I still—”  

“Ah, before that, how about we prepare some tea? This is going to be a long talk… Right, Alicia?”  

“Yes, I’ll get it ready. Please wait in the living room. Madoka-san, could you bring Yuria-san?”  

“…Yes, understood.”  

With a gloomy expression, Madoka went back upstairs to fetch Yuria.  

…She looks pretty down. She probably thinks I’m going to reject her again.  

Still, this isn’t a conversation we can have standing around. So I decided to head to the living room for now.  

Alicia went to the kitchen to prepare the tea.  

“I hope this will calm Madoka down.”  

We’re about to tell Madoka and Yuria all the information we have.  

If that doesn’t settle things, I won’t know what else to do.  

Worst case, I might have to give in and go along with whatever they want.  

“Sorry to keep you waiting, Maki-kun.”  

“I heard you had something to talk about?”  

“Yeah. …The tea’s here too, so let’s get started.”  

Alicia placed the tea in front of everyone and sat down next to me. Madoka and Yuria sat across from us.  

“So, Madoka. To clarify, you still want to go and rescue everyone, right?”  

“…Yeah. I have friends there, and I just can’t leave them behind. They’re also some of the few Japanese people here.”  

“I feel the same way. But I also understand what Maki and the others are saying.”  

“Yuria-chan… Yeah, you’re right.”  

It seems Madoka has calmed down a little.  

I’m grateful that she’s not just shouting anymore.  

…Looks like it’s thanks to Yuria. She’s been staring over here the whole time.  

“Ahem!...So, Madoka. I’ve been thinking about whether we can rescue everyone. I’m going to share all the information we have now, including the issues we’re worried about.”  

“…Thank you.”  

From there, Alicia and I started explaining everything.  

I expected questions, but the conversation continued without any interruptions.  

I told them the same things I had told Alicia earlier: about modifying the teleportation magic circle and the concerns we had.  

When Madoka heard that we could possibly reach Shriden, her face lit up. But as soon as I mentioned that we weren’t sure if we could come back there, her expression quickly darkened.  

Then, when I explained that causing any trouble after we teleported could lead to international problems between Shriden and Adelreed, she became even more dejected.  

It seems that Madoka is also thinking about not wanting to drag others into this.  

“…And that’s why we have so many concerns.”  

“…I see. So, it would involve a lot of people, wouldn’t it?”  

“Yeah. While I think we have a right to act selfishly since we were summoned here against our will, the fact is, we were also helped. I’d prefer to avoid causing any trouble because of that.”  

It would be one thing if we were only inconveniencing Shriden. But we can’t afford to trouble Adelreed.  

Both Madoka and Yuria seemed to agree with that. If we were going to do something, it would have to be in a way that doesn’t cause problems for Adelreed.  

But if that’s the case, Alicia’s suggestion might end up going to waste.  

“Now, about my part… During Maki-san’s explanation, he mentioned that we don’t have anyone who can improve the teleportation magic circle, correct?”  

“Yeah. That’s why it seemed impossible.”  

“But there’s actually a solution to that.”  

“R-Really?”  

Yes, this is the information Alicia shared with me while we were walking earlier.  

“When I went to report the current situation in the Forest of Demons to the capital, His Majesty offered to send us some magic experts to assist with the development effort.”  

“Really!?”  

“Yes. I’m not sure exactly who will be coming, but they should be able to provide some help.”

Madoka, who had initially shown her excitement, quickly remembered the practical difficulties and sank back into disappointment.

W-Why are you looking at me like that, Yuria?  

“Well, anyway, that’s all the information we have.”  

“I’m sorry for keeping it from you, Madoka-san, Yuria-san.”  

“No… I understand. I wasn’t in a calm state of mind either, so I think it couldn’t be helped.”  

“But still—was there a need to keep it secret even from me?”  

“Well, if I told Yuria, you’d definitely tell Madoka, right?”  

“Yeah, that’s true.”  

That’s exactly why I didn’t say anything.  

“Honestly, right now, improving the teleportation magic circle is our only option. And even then, it’s a one-shot deal.”  

“And if it turns into an international issue, we can’t just act on our own selfishness.”

It’s not really a solution.  

For now, all we can do is wait and hope that the expert sent from the capital has some ideas we can use.
