Episode 78: A Life in Another World that is Far from Free 17
Still, everyone’s doing a great job taking down the monsters. Even if they’re eating the special fruits, is it really okay for them to be defeating monsters so easily?
Even the Queen Dragon was really strong, but Sensei took it down in one hit.
Well, by that point, Sensei’s Magic stats had already grown a lot. I was honestly shocked when I saw her eat more than five bananas.
Seeing the slender Sensei devour so many bananas… I’m sure I wasn’t the only one surprised by that.
However, aside from the Queen Dragon, no other monsters of comparable strength have appeared.
Of course, the monsters’ levels and stats are high. But even Ryan-san, Vil-san, and Ricott-san—who aren’t from another world and have lower-class and intermediate-class professions—can defeat them after eating the fruit.
Thinking about it that way, it’s clear that this fruit, which temporarily boosts your abilities, is essential for clearing out the Forest of Demons.
“…Or rather, should I say ‘conquering’ the forest?”
I’ve only seen the outskirts of the Forest of Demons. But according to Alicia, the deeper you go, the stronger the monsters become.
Even in those cases, the fruit will still be crucial. And as we progress, everyone’s levels will continue to rise. The higher their base stats, the more effective the fruit becomes.
“…Ugh! The more I think about it, the more frustrating it is that I can’t level up here!”
On the other side of the forest, I’ve hunted Bullfangs multiple times. Of course, I ate the strength-enhancing apples beforehand.
But even then, it takes me forever to kill one. And I have to rely heavily on my Appraisal skills. When I swing my sword, it still just bounces off like a rubber band.
…Just how low is my Strength?
If my Appraiser (Divine Eye) is really a special-class profession, it seems like my stats should go up more, even if I’m not a combat-focused profession.
“…Well, I guess no matter what I think, I’m not going to get stronger just by wishing for it.”
In the end, I’ll just have to keep working hard at it.
We spent the morning hunting monsters and managed to wipe out a group of Judge Ogres, one of the creatures that patrol the area.
The next monster set to appear is the Poison Snake, a creature that spits deadly venom. Since we have to be cautious about the poison. The battle will take some time, but we’ve prepared thoroughly.
We have antidote potions ready, along with plenty of other types of potions. They’re valuable. But since Ryan, the captain of the guards, approved their use, no one can complain. Besides, considering how much progress we’ve made in clearing the forest, it’s only natural.
“Hmm, this is tasty.”
“It really is, Maki-kun.”
“Why is the person who’s done the least eating the most, Maki?”
“Oh, come on, Kondō-san, it’s fine.”
I get hungry too, you know. I’m just agreeing about how good the lunch is, just like Madoka and Yuria.
“Using magic really works up an appetite.”
“Yes, it does. I haven’t used this much magic in a while, so I’m starving.”
Alicia and Leyreina-san seem to have grown closer. They’re no longer sizing each other up like they did at the start. Now, they’re sitting next to each other, enjoying lunch together.
“Yeah, this is delicious!”
“It seems Haruka-sama made this, Captain.”
“Wait, really? …Akigase-san’s got some serious skills.”
“Wow! Haruka-sama can not only wield powerful magic but also cook?”
“Hehe, well, it’s just simple dishes.”
“No, no! I’ve never had anything this delicious!”
The three soldiers were deeply impressed by Sensei’s homemade lunch.
Alicia’s cooking was good too, but there’s something about Sensei’s cooking… no, the Japanese flavor that really hits home.
Madoka, Yuria, and I were all eating with a sense of nostalgia.
“Hey, Maki-kun. How long will it take for the next magical beast……the Poison Snake show up?”
“In about an hour. We’ll mostly attack from a distance using magic. If they get too close, Ryan-san, Vil-san, and Mirelle-san will handle them.”
“Ehh? What about me?”
“Ricott-san, it’s still too dangerous for you. My Appraisal says that if you go to the front lines, it’ll be risky.”
Ricott-san looked a bit frustrated, but she didn’t argue. She must trust my Appraisal skill enough to hold back.
“Gulp! Gulp! Aahhh… To think this was handmade by big sis!”
…Yeah, I’m sure Mirelle-san will manage somehow. Now that she’s had Sensei’s lunch, her motivation should be fully charged.
