In the aftermath of unexpectedly defeating the Level Slime with a single blow, I was still stunned when Dietrich-sama’s voice brought me back to reality.

“Mihiro-sama, could you please check your level?”

“…Ah, right. I’ll check it now.”

I wondered if something so weak could really boost my level. Could it really give as much experience as 50 Bullfangs? While doubting it, I opened my status screen… and, whoa! No way!

“My level really went up to 5!”

“Well, usually, you’d expect your level to jump by three or four from level 4,” 

Dietrich-sama said, looking a bit unimpressed.

Unlike him, I was thrilled by this great result. If I kept up defeating these Level Slimes, I might even reach level 10!

“May I use my Appraisal again?”  

“Of course. A divine-class profession… I’m very curious.”

With Dietrich-sama’s permission, I used my Appraisal skill to locate another Level Slime. To my surprise, the next one appeared very close… wait, not just close, but…

“…There’s another one here.”  

“Is that so? Another barrier spell?”  

“No, it seems different. There are still one inside the hole you just sealed earlier.”

“In that hole? …..Do Level Slimes tend to gather in groups?”

“Shall I check?”

Since I figured Dietrich-sama was someone in the research field, It was likely true. And since I owed him for all his help, it wouldn’t hurt to investigate. But before I could proceed, he shook his head.

“No, let’s prioritize your leveling up first, Mihiro-sama.”  

“…Are you sure?”  

“Of course. I’ll release the Earth Lock.”

“Thank you! If any of the Level Slimes try to escape, please take care of them for me, Dietrich-sama.”

“If there’s any leftovers, that is.” 

He said with a playful wink. I couldn’t help but think how kind he was. He put me first, even when he didn’t have to.

But… well, yeah. There are definitely going to be some “leftovers” for sure.

“Earth Lock, release!”  

“Here we go!”

From the hole, 15 Level Slimes suddenly emerged.

“Wha—this many!?”  

“Please leave some for meee!”

There was no way I could handle all these Level Slimes by myself. I swung my sword as much as I could, trying to take down as many as possible. While the ones that fled to the rear were left to Dietrich-sama.

I slashed and slashed through the Slimes. My sword technique was still rough but effective. However, after taking down five, some began to escape.

“Wind Arrow!”  

But Dietrich-sama was quick to finish off the escapees with his magic. It would’ve been fine to let a few go. But after taking on the trouble of guiding me here, I wanted to make sure he got something out of it too.

In the end, we continued the fight, and I managed to defeat 9 of the Level Slimes while Dietrich-sama finished off 6. I was panting from the effort of swinging my sword non-stop. While Dietrich-sama, who hadn’t moved from his spot, looked as composed as ever. Magic is so convenient…

“…Right, I should check my level. Status.”

I immediately checked the level section on my status screen… and, yes, yes, yes!

“My level went up to 8!”  

“Congratulations, Mihiro-sama! Thanks to the leftovers, my level also went up by one.”

“Oh! That’s great, Dietrich-sama!”  

“I never expected to see that many Level Slimes at once.”

Dietrich-sama gave a modest smile, looking a bit bashful, and I decided to do a quick Appraisal.

“Appraisal: Level Slime’s Habits.”

Since we’d managed to find 15 of these elusive Slimes that normally take 10 or even 5 days to find just one, understanding their behavior would make leveling up for the royal family much easier in the future. It would also help Dietrich-sama, so I figured it was worth it.

“…It seems you were right, Dietrich-sama. Level Slimes do tend to gather in groups.”

“Is that so? Then why had we only been finding one at a time?”

“It appears they only gather as a group when they’re in their nests. When they patrol the caves, it’s usually just one or two of them.”

“So, the ones we’ve been finding were the patrolling Level Slimes, then.”

“Yes. If we can find their nest, it might be surprisingly easy to defeat them,” 

I said, sharing my Appraisal results. Dietrich-sama looked as excited as I was about leveling up. 

“If that’s the case, if we have someone with a high level of barrier magic…… Ah, sorry, Mihiro-sama.”  

“No, no, I’m just glad to be of help.”  

“Haha… So, shall we continue leveling up?”  

“I’d like to reach level 10 if possible.”  

“Understood. Let’s keep going.”  

And so, we continued to defeat Level Slimes in the Northern Cave for a while longer—and I reached level 10.
