Episode 98: A Life in Another World that is Far from Free 36
When we returned to the castle, we reported to His Majesty that our leveling-up had gone well.
His Majesty was very pleased, but he didn’t seem entirely convinced about the number being level 10.
“Hmm… You’ve defeated over ten Level Slimes and still only reached level 10. You must definitely have a divine-class profession.”
To me, that was a sufficient achievement. But it seems that typically, even a special-class profession would be expected to reach level 30 or higher.
A divine-class profession… I wonder if it really exists. Well, since mine has “divine” in its name, maybe it does…
“Are there any other jobs with ‘divine’ in their name?”
“No. I’ve never even heard of any.”
None? That makes it even more credible!
…Well, from my perspective, the abilities are extraordinary enough that I can believe it might be a divine-class profession.
Honestly, with my level up, increased magical power, and the ability to strengthen my magic with bananas, I might be able to destroy an entire nation by myself. After all, I can just Appraise the method.
Not that I would do that, but it’s possible.
The way to acquire skills is similar. If I feel overwhelmed on my own, I could help raise the levels of some relatively strong people, and they could acquire even more powerful skills. It made it possible for me to hold my own in a fight.
Alicia and the others have also been leveling up through the development of the Forest of Demons. Considering the military strength of the Granzawall, it might look like a power increase from the outside. That’s precisely why I reported to His Majesty about the potential danger.
“…What’s wrong, Mihiro-sama?”
“Hm? Oh, it’s nothing. Just some thoughts.”
“Well, as long as you don’t start thinking strange things, I won’t intervene.”
“Thinking strange things? That’s a scary thing to say.”
“You were thinking about something along the lines of ‘if I wanted to, I could do it,’ right?”
…He can read my mind.
“Well, yes. But I won’t do it, okay? I just want to enjoy this world freely.”
“Given that, you’ve been helping with the development of the Forest of Demons.”
“I owe a debt of gratitude to Alicia and the others. Besides, I’m already in the boat, so I’ll lend a hand until things are on the right track.”
After that, I really plan to live freely and travel.
“That sounds fine. However, don’t go too far where I can’t keep an eye on you.”
“Ugh! …I get it.”
I wish he wouldn’t look at me like that.
I really wish he could relax as there’s absolutely no way I would go too far with my Appraisal skill.
“Sorry to interrupt the conversation, Mihiro-sama. What will you do now?”
“Hm? Did you have something planned?”
“Now that you’ve reached level 10 and your amount of mana has increased, I thought it might be a good idea to appraise the method of skill acquisition again.”
Currently, my Magic stat is at 300. I’ve been told that’s an extraordinary number for a level 10 person.
Dietrich-sama, a Sage, has level 36 and 700 Magic stat. Considering that, it makes sense to believe that there would be a significant difference with the three times-level gap.
“Based on my Magic stat at level 4, it has increased by about four times. If I eat a banana with my current Magic stat, it will be 600 for one banana, and 900 for two, exceeding the Magic stat from my previous appraisal.”
And if I eat seven bananas again, my Magic stat will become 2400.
With this high of a Magic stat and amount of mana, if I Appraise the method of skill acquisition… I can’t even imagine what might come out.
“Hmm… In that case, let’s call Alicia and have her take out some bananas from the magic bag.”
“I will go fetch her.”
“Thank you.”
Dietrich-sama left the room to call for Alicia.
In the meantime, I was left alone with His Majesty… It felt a bit awkward.
“…So, Mihiro.”
“…What is it?”
“Do you hold any resentment toward King Gozef?”
“…That’s quite a sudden question.”
“Is it? You were suddenly summoned, then exiled and nearly killed. So it would seem you’d have some resentment.”
Well, when put that way, it makes sense.
“I did resent him at first. But when I found myself in an environment where I could die thinking like that, I was pushed to survive. Once I started thinking about survival, those thoughts vanished. Besides, if my divine-class profession had been discovered, I might have been turned into a puppet. And I definitely didn’t want to work under someone like that. Ultimately, I’m grateful for the exile.”
As I shrugged my shoulders and said that, His Majesty smiled and suddenly began to pat my head.
“W-what’s this all of a sudden?”
“Hehehe. You’re quite unusual.”
“That doesn’t sound like a compliment.”
“Is that so?”
…No, it definitely isn’t.
