Episode 130: An Unexpected Survival Life 2
The first to appear were Paralysis Birds.
Their entire body was cloaked in lightning, a troublesome magical beast that could inflict paralysis just by touching its opponent.
The recommended method of dealing with it was long-range attacks. But since most of our group specialized in close combat, I had warned them it might be difficult.
However, our team of Mages—Alicia, Madoka, and Leyreina-san—stepped up eagerly.
“Firestorm!” “Light Arrow!” “Earth Bullet!”
Alicia’s Firestorm created a swirling inferno, reducing a wide area of Paralysis Birds to ash.
Though I lamented the loss of materials, in a dangerous place like the Forest of Demons, securing a sure victory was more important.
On the other hand, Madoka’s and Leyreina-san’s spells left the corpses intact, which was a relief.
Madoka’s Light Arrows shot a barrage of glowing arrows that pierced through the Paralysis Birds.
Leyreina-san’s Earth Bullets launched chunks of earth into the sky, striking down more of them.
Once dead, even Paralysis Birds couldn’t continue emitting lightning.
For the close-combat fighters, their role was mainly to gather the beasts into one spot. After that, I just stored them in the magic bag Alicia had entrusted to me, and the task was done.
None of the beasts managed to break through the barrage of spells, and it was clear how much the Mages had improved.
“That felt a bit too easy,”
“Is this really all there is?”
“…Earth Bullet is a basic earth-element spell, though.”
I had given specific instructions on which spells to use.
Since Alicia only had fire magic skills, I had accepted that burning up the materials was inevitable, prioritizing the annihilation of the magical beasts instead.
That’s why Madoka and Leyreina-san used Light Arrow and Earth Bullet.
The three of them, even though they had only eaten two bananas each, had high enough Magic to take down the beasts in the Forest of Demons in a single strike—even with low-level spells, as Leyreina-san had pointed out.
Higher-level light and earth magic would have damaged the materials, but lower-level spells avoided that risk.
While magical beast materials from the Forest of Demons were already circulating in Granzawall, other cities didn’t have the same supply.
Especially now, as we were prioritizing sending materials to the royal capital. Having more of them was definitely useful.
“This just means your levels have increased, and so has your Magic.”
When I said that, Leyreina-san smiled bashfully.
With the Paralysis Birds cleared out, we had a brief break before the next wave of magical beasts appeared.
I told the mages to rest while the rest of us took care of the routine tasks.
The next magical beasts, the Silver Wolves, were specialists in close combat. So the Mages could rest until then.
Before long, the time came for the Silver Wolf pack to appear.
The Mages stood up, staves ready. But I had instructed them to hold back on using magic this time.
The reason was simple—I planned to use the Silver Wolves as a stepping stone for Arata’s growth.
“You’ll be fighting alongside Yuria.”
“…..Got it.”
“What’s wrong? Feeling nervous?”
“Of course I am. I’ve fought magical beasts before, but it was always with a large group of soldiers. This time, there are only ten of us.”
“You’ll be fine. You ate some fruit, right?”
“…An apple, some muscat, and grapes.”
“Then you’ll be fine.”
With his Strength, Endurance, and Speed doubled from the fruit, Arata should have no trouble taking down the Silver Wolves.
Actually, it might even be overkill.
If anyone were a concern, it would be Mirelle-san. But if I mentioned that, I’d probably get scolded in that low, dangerous voice of hers.
…….I guess I’ll just keep an eye on her.
“…Mihiro, they’re here.”
“Alright. Arata, move next to Yuria.”
“Got it.”
I watched Arata swiftly move into position, his Speed doubled, and tightened my grip on the hilt of my sword.
Even though I’d reassured him, this was also my first time undertaking serious Forest of Demons development since reaching level 12.
Taking a deep breath, I glanced at the display screen.
The countdown showed that the Silver Wolves were getting closer and closer to noticing us.

“They’re coming!”
At my shout, the pack of Silver Wolves burst out from the bushes.
