I’m an Appraiser, But What the Heck is a [Divine Eye]? ~I Want to Live Freely as the World’s Best Beginner Class~ - Episode 133: Granzawall
Episode 133: Granzawall
No one present could fully comprehend what had just occurred. Although they all wanted to dive into their thoughts, a Lesser Earth Dragon was closing in, ready to devour them.
“Focus on the beast in front of you!”
Ryan’s command echoed through the Forest of Demons.
Alicia, snapping back to reality, launched a massive fireball to obstruct the path of the Lesser Earth Dragon heading toward Ricott and Mirelle. This was the dragon that Arata had been holding back alone. Following Maki’s earlier instructions, Ryan, Vil, and Yuria, supported by Leyreina, managed to take down the Dragon they were facing.
Though Ricott and Mirelle were struggling, Mirelle successfully regained her composure and followed Ricott’s lead, giving them the upper hand. As Ryan and Vil swooped in to finish off the fourth dragon, Yuria struck with a powerful blow infused with battle energy, shattering the skull of the dragon and killing it instantly.
“Madoka! Maki! Arata!”
They rushed to where Maki and the others had vanished. But the magic circle that had previously floated in the air had completely disappeared without a trace.
“What… what on earth is going on!?”
Yuria shouted in frustration, unable to understand the situation, as the others gathered around her. Among them, Mirelle was visibly despondent, having caused the difficulty they faced.
“…I’m sorry, everyone.”
“Do you really think a simple apology is enough for this mess?!”
“O-Oh, please calm down, Yuria-san!”
“How can I stay calm, Alicia-san?!”
Alicia tried to soothe the shouting Yuria, but Yuria didn’t ease her attitude even toward her. Mirelle trembled from the anger in Yuria’s clenched fists. She could only hang her head in silence.
“E-Excuse me!”
It was Leyreina who stepped in. Having previously worked on refining teleportation magic circles, she was the most knowledgeable about them. Kneeling on the ground, she placed her hands on the spot where the magic circle had appeared, pouring her mana into the ground. Suddenly, the magic circle that had engulfed Maki and the others glowed once more.
“Leyreina-sama, is this the same teleportation magic circle as the one in the Transfer Shrine?”
“I’m certain it’s the same type.”
“Really?! Then can you teleport me too!?”
Excited, Yuria leaned forward with hope as Leyreina confirmed Ryan’s question. However, Leyreina’s response was not what Yuria wanted to hear.
“…I’m afraid it’s impossible for me.”
“Why not?!”
“Please, calm down, Yuria-dono! Yelling at Leyreina-dono won’t help!”
“That’s… right. Sorry, Leyreina-san.”
After Vil scolded her, Yuria finally regained her composure. Though she still couldn’t forgive Mirelle and avoided looking at her.
“It’s fine… It’s because I was only able to modify the teleportation circle before thanks to Maki-sama’s analysis. If it were the same or a degraded version, I could modify it right away. But this one is far more advanced.”
“If I remember correctly, the teleportation circle at the shrine was drawn by Maria Shriden, right?”
“Yes. Although it was her original work, someone more skilled than even royalty would be rare to find…”
Even while talking, Leyreina didn’t take her eyes off the magic circle, continuing to analyze it for any information she could extract.
“…This… could it be…”
“Have you discovered something, Leyreina-sama?”
“Ah, yes, Alicia-sama. This teleportation magic circle doesn’t seem to transfer someone very far. It’s likely… the destination is somewhere deep within the Forest of Demons.”
“D-Deep within the Forest of Demons…”
Alicia cut off her words and directed her gaze toward the depths of the Forest of Demons.
Even though they couldn’t proceed with the frontier development without Maki’s Appraisal skills, they were wondering if it was right to press ahead based on their own judgment to rescue them. Even if they moved forward, they had no idea where Maki and the others were. In the vast, unexplored land of the Forest of Demons, where terrifyingly strong and ferocious magical beasts roamed, the thought of finding just three humans felt overwhelmingly reckless.
“I’m going!”
“Yuria-san!”
“There’s no point in stopping me! If I don’t go, who will?”
“Calm down! Even if you’re going, we need to prepare first! If you go like this, you’ll definitely lose your life on the way!”
“That’s—”
“Besides, think about how Maki-san and the others would feel if they came back and found out Yuria-san had died. How much do you think it would hurt them?”
Alicia’s words, leaving no room for argument, made Yuria stop in her tracks. She bit her lip in silence and slowly nodded.
“We will halt the development of the forest and shift our strategy to holding this position. If maintaining it becomes too difficult, retreating a little is acceptable. Make sure to tell the soldiers and adventurers to prioritize their lives while holding the ground as much as possible.”
Everyone nodded at Alicia’s words and began heading back to the settlement.
“…Please be safe, all of you,”
Yuria murmured quietly. She glanced back only once before quickly turning on her heel and running off.
