Episode 155: An Unexpected Survival Life 24
Unlike me, who wasted five days, Madoka and Arata apparently trained intensively under Moriya.
Especially Madoka—her repertoire of light attribute magic had expanded significantly. As Moriya mentioned, she had previously focused on magic that was immediately useful, like healing and support spells. Now, she had added offensive light-attribute magic to her arsenal.
Since light magic itself is rare, and many magical beasts are weak to it, this development made her highly promising for future battles.
As for Arata, his level had increased even further, and he might now be the highest-leveled among all special-class professions. This was thanks in large part to Haku, and he had reached the point where he could take down the magical beasts with lower level in the area by himself.
“……….Meanwhile, all I can make is a downgraded version of the Mail Bird.”
“Hey now, you were bedridden the whole time. Besides, isn’t that because you were following my guidance? If you analyze how to create magical tools, can’t you just make whatever you want?”
He had a point, and I decided to just accept it. Still, I had wanted to create something entirely on my own.
“Your analysis skill is part of your power, isn’t it?”
“That’s true, but…”
“I, for one, am happy with my profession and skills. They let me do most things I want, and I rarely feel held back by my stats.”
Fair enough. A Level 150 divine-class profession like Moriya’s is probably unique in the entire world.
“But being able to analyze solutions to even forbidden magic’s drawbacks? That’s an incredible power. If it were me, I’d be analyzing everything in sight.”
“……But doesn’t that take the fun out of it?”
“Fun? What do you mean?”
“Well, think about it. This is another world—reality has become something out of a fantasy. If you could figure out all the answers right away, wouldn’t that make things boring?”
I said this as though it were obvious, but Moriya looked genuinely puzzled.
“…Life doesn’t just become fun that easily, though.”
“Sure, but wouldn’t it be nice if life had a little fun in it?”
“That’s an ideal, but… Hmm. Maybe I never had the luxury to think about enjoying life. Back then, I was just struggling to survive.”
…I see. I had been talking under the assumption that my perspective was universally valid.
When Moriya was summoned, and even when we were summoned, the situation required us to fight for our lives. That was likely the case for everyone else.
By sheer luck, I was deemed useless and exiled. Because of that, I survived by using my Appraisal skill and ultimately gained my freedom.
But that wasn’t the case for Sensei or the rest of my classmates. They had to face this world’s magical beasts, wield unfamiliar weapons, and endure repeated training against human opponents.
Sensei, along with Madoka and Yuria, was exiled like me. But Sensei almost lost her life immediately after, attacked by magical beasts in the forest. She must have been terrified.
And Arata—he was forced into battle under the effects of status abnormalities, enduring immense mental strain.
Looking at it that way, I was incredibly lucky. Truly, my Luck stat of 100 isn’t just for show.
“Maybe you should rely on your profession and skills more. Otherwise, it’d be a waste.”
“…A waste, huh?”
“Exactly! Using everything you’ve got to enjoy life is bound to be more fulfilling.”
“………You might be right.”
Moriya had been in a situation as dire as, or even worse than, ours when he was summoned. Survival itself must have seemed uncertain for him.
“Now, I use my skills constantly and push my stats to their limits. Looking back, the struggles I went through then are what allow me to feel like this now.”
“So, you’re saying it’s because you use your abilities to their fullest?”
“Exactly! Instead of wasting over a hundred years like me—start making the most of it right away.”
…He’s right. That was my original plan all along.
To travel freely in this other world, to live as an adventurer and enjoy everything this world has to offer.
At the core of that ambition were my profession as an Appraise and my skills.
Before I learned I had a divine-class profession, if things had gone as I imagined back then, I would have been using my Appraisal skill to its fullest without hesitation.
“…Yeah, that’s a much better expression.”.
“…Really?”
“Absolutely. You’re smiling like someone ready to enjoy the future.”
Was I really smiling that much? That’s a little embarrassing.
“I’m looking forward to the day you create some magical tool that’ll blow my mind.”
“If I could do that easily, it wouldn’t be so tough… but I’ll give it my best shot.”
To make up for the five wasted days, I’ve got to work as hard as I can!
