Episode 156: An Unexpected Survival Life 25
One month out of the three had passed.
Despite my limited mana, I had managed to create a significant number of magical tools. Most of them were designed to be easy for anyone to use and were aimed at improving daily life.
Why focus on such tools? Because I wanted to raise the living standards of Alicia and Glenn, even just a bit, for when we returned to Granzawall. If these tools became widespread, their reputations would improve, and they’d likely attract more people willing to work under them.
“Well, they’ve already accomplished something remarkable by developing the Demon Forest,” I muttered.
The Forest of Demons was an area even the kingdom couldn’t develop despite its efforts. By taking on such a challenge, Alicia and Glenn were highly regarded by the kingdom. However, I wasn’t sure if the people living there truly understood the significance of their achievements.
If their contributions were hard to grasp, I figured I could help make them more recognized by creating tangible results.
“Maki-kun, it’s ready!”
“Thanks, Moriya.”
Moriya handed me the completed item, and I inspected it. Since we were both summoned from Japan, what he made reflected my specifications. While I could have made it myself, I wasn’t particularly skilled at crafting. So I left it to Moriya, who was dexterous enough to build houses.
This time, what I had Moriya make was… an adjustable stove.
I had once helped Akigase-sensei in the kitchen. While there was a place to generate fire, like a stove, there was no way to control the heat level. Despite that, Sensei and Alicia were both skilled cooks and managed to make delicious meals. Still, with adjustable heat, the results could only improve.
…..Not to mention, Sensei had once lamented that the firepower was too weak. Alicia might have been used to it, but constantly cooking over a low flame sounded tedious. Sensei’s wry smile back then stuck with me.
“Alright, I’ll draw the magic circle for heat adjustment here and attach the buttons above it.”
“Still, it’s unusual to want to make something like a stove. Isn’t it a bit plain for a magical tool?”
“Is it?”
“Yeah. I thought you’d aim for something more flashy.”
While it would be ideal to create powerful magical tools for combat, I already knew my current mana levels made that impossible.
So, my next priority became tools that could improve daily life.
“You’ve made quite a lot of magical tools this past month.”
“Yeah, and life here has gotten a bit more convenient because of it, hasn’t it?”
“True, but wow… I’m impressed.”
I wasn’t sure what exactly impressed him. In addition to this stove, I had previously made items like a blender, a hand mixer, faucets that dispensed hot water, a refrigerator, and even a microwave-like device. Though I couldn’t create a full cooking-function microwave, I managed to make one with basic warming capabilities.
………Looking back, most of my creations seemed to center around the kitchen.
“Not satisfied with the meals in Granzawall?”
“That’s not it.”
It wasn’t like I cooked myself, but well, no harm in making improvements.
Next on my list were tools like a vacuum cleaner, a washing machine, or even something that could allow real-time communication with distant people. While a smartphone was out of the question, a device with basic telephone functionality would be helpful.
If I were to pursue that, preventing eavesdropping and ensuring communication reached the intended recipient would become essential. Both seemed equally important, but I wondered if there was something even more critical I was overlooking.
“…Ooi, Maki-ku~n!”
“…Huh?”
“Lost in thought again, weren’t you? Hurry up and finish this, will you?”
“R-right, sorry.”
Responding to Moriya’s complaint, I laughed awkwardly and quickly got back to work drawing the magic circle.
After a month of practice, I had gotten used to this. My mana manipulation was becoming smoother.
I added functionality for flame control—low, medium, high, and off. Additionally, I implemented safety features, like automatically extinguishing the flame if it overheated or if left unattended for more than five minutes without anything on top.
Moriya quickly attached the buttons on top of the completed magic circle.
“Alright, Maki-kun, it’s your turn for the first push!”
“…..I’m nervous.”
I had always been the one to activate the device for the first time. Every time, I couldn’t help but worry about whether it would work properly or if it would suddenly explode.
This time, though, since it involved fire, I was even more nervous than when I made the microwave-like device.
“…..Alright, here I go!”
After taking a deep breath, I pressed the low flame button.
—Whoosh.
“…Yes, it’s on!”
“Well, of course, it’s going to turn on.”
“Medium flame~, high flame~. Yep, the firepower’s rising and it’s working perfectly~!”
“Now you’re singing a weird song.”
“Extinguishing… and it went out!!”
“Good, good, I’m glad.”
While I was getting overly excited, Moriya calmly responded, as usual. We had both gotten used to this by now.
Afterward, I double-checked the safety features, confirming that the fire could be safely extinguished. And with that, I declared the stove complete.
