Episode 159: An Unexpected Survival Life 28
Two months had passed since we arrived under Moriya’s care.
Let’s take a moment to check everyone’s levels.
Arata has been actively leveling up. He has reached level 47, the highest among the three of us.
His Strength is 1200, and his Endurance is 1000, with two stats now in the four-digit range.
Madoka’s level has increased nearly threefold since we got here. She is now level 33.
Not only has her Light Magic improved, but all of her magic attributes have also reached level 7.
Haku already had a high level and didn’t see any increase, but Gregori has leveled up to 105.
In terms of Endurance, Gregori now rivals Haku, an advanced-tier magical beast. And as a guardian familiar to protect Madoka, it’s in top form.
And then there’s Sunny… before I knew it, its level had risen to 30. It surpassed mine by far, and she had become much stronger than I could ever be.
“…I’m the only one left behind…”
“Really? I think you’re getting stronger too, Maki-kun.”
“Well, yes, but I’m still only level 15! I’ve only gained 3 levels since we came here.”
Though my level is now 15, my highest stat is Magic at 450, which is lower than Sunny’s weakest stats—Strength and Dexterity at 530.
…….Am I really Sunny’s master?
“If only I could use magic, I could be more proactive in taking down magical beasts.”
“Well, that’s probably difficult.”
“…Huh?”
“There are some magic spells that an Appraiser can learn, but they’re probably only low-level spells. Even if you poured all of your magic into it, it wouldn’t be enough to defeat the magical beasts around here.”
“…Ehhh?”
Hearing this so bluntly really drained my motivation.
But Moriya must have known that. Because next, he said exactly what I wanted to hear.
“That’s why, now that your magic has increased. I’ve got a gift for you, Maki-kun.”
“…What’s this?”
“It’s not advanced-level magic, but it’s a magical device that can cast intermediate-level magic.”
“……There are attack-type magical devices?!”
This is exactly what I’ve been looking for! Why didn’t you give this to me from the start?!
“Well, with the amount of Magic you had until now, even if you used it, you wouldn’t have been able to cause lethal damage.”
“Grr… Well, when you put it that way, I can’t argue.”
“Right? But now, with your current Magic stat, it should be fine to use it at least once.”
H-he said it’s only once though.
“But being able to take down a magical beast by yourself is a pretty big deal, you know? The experience distribution will change a lot too.”
My level increased thanks to Sunny.
Because Sunny actively defeated magical beasts, I got some of the experience as well. It helped me go from level 12 to 15.
…..I may have to sleep with my head at Sunny’s feet for the rest of my life.
“…Pikya?”
“No, it’s nothing!”
Maybe Sunny noticed my thoughts, as it tilted its head and looked at me. So I quickly gave a nervous laugh and said it was nothing.
“Ahaha! Well, Sunny’s a smart one. So don’t worry about it, Maki-kun.”
“That’s not exactly what I’d call ‘don’t worry’.”
“I really mean it. If we keep going at this pace, taking down one magical beast per day, your level will steadily rise. And then we can speed things up.”
“Well, I guess so.”
“By the time you leave here, reaching level 20 shouldn’t be a dream. So hang in there!”
“Pi-kyah!”
I couldn’t help but nod, encouraged not only by Moriya but also by Sunny.
Still, it looks like I can only rely on this magical device. So I guess I’ll have to do my best.
“By the way, what kind of magic can it cast?”
“Blade of Severance.”
“…Huh?”
“I said, Blade of Severance. It requires at least 400 Magic stats. But for magical beasts with less than 1000 Endurance, they can be cut through regardless of their Endurance.”
“…That’s definitely not intermediate-level magic! Is it an advanced-level spell?!”
Normally, magical beasts with Endurance over 1000 are rare. And a blade that ignores Endurance is nothing short of terrifying!
“No, no, this is undoubtedly intermediate-level magic. …Ah, but I wonder how it is in the current age? This is from the time when I was active, after all.”
…I’ve decided not to trust Moriya’s claim about this being intermediate-level magic. I’ll gratefully use it. But when we return to Granzawall, maybe I’ll ask Leyreina-san to confirm it.
“Starting tomorrow, let’s all focus on leveling up.”
“Isn’t Madoka’s magic training important?”
“Since all her elemental magic levels have gone up, and she’s also strengthened her attack magic, I think she’s fine for now. It may still be tough for her to make it on her own, but for a while, she should be able to perform well.”
That’s probably true. Her stats have already become strong enough that she doesn’t even need the fruits anymore!
“…Sigh. Everyone around me is getting stronger and stronger.”
“Maki-kun, you’re so negative. You’re getting stronger too, so don’t worry!”
…Alright, I’ll start by trying to catch up to Yuria’s power. Catching up to Arata and Madoka is probably impossible now.
