After a brief exchange, Arata and Haku moved away to deal with the surrounding magical beasts, leaving Sunny and me in position. I waited for the signal from my Appraisal skill to attack.

Kicking off from my head, Sunny leapt into the air. Flapping its wings with full force, it launched a lightning-fast charge.  

The magical beast—a minotaur with the body of a human and the head of a bull—turned around at the sound of our voices. But before it could react, its right arm, which had been gripping a massive battle axe, was blown clean off by Sunny’s high-speed attack.  

“Bugwoooaaahhhh!!?”  

“Pikyaa!”  

The next moment, a fireball burst forth, engulfing the Minotaur. Its tough fur, which I probably couldn’t even scratch, was scorched and burned away.  

“Pikyah! Pippykyah!”  

“Is… is it my turn now?”  

I was stunned by Sunny’s strength—unbelievable for its level 30—but its signal matched the instructions displayed on my screen. With that confirmation, I leaped out from the bushes and activated the magic tool.  

“Take this—Blade of Severance!”  

Whoa! M-my mana—it’s being drained all at once!  

As a sudden wave of exhaustion hit me, I waited for the sensation of my mana being drained to stop. At that precise moment, I swung the magic tool with all my might.  

Whoosh!  

The sound of the air being torn apart echoed. And in its wake, the trees around us swayed violently.

The Minotaur let out a strange cry before its body started to shift vertically. Then, with a clean split down the middle, it was severed into two halves—literally.  

“Uh… wow.”  

“Pikyaaa…”  

Faced with the gruesome scene, both Sunny and I let out groans of discomfort.  

Still, defeating the Minotaur raised my level to 16. Convincing myself that this was simply the law of nature, I resolved to keep pushing forward starting tomorrow.
